As for whether I’ll be a Rams fan if they leave St. Louis, time will tell. I’ll just see how I feel at the time. It’s not so black and white, the city vs. team thing. Right now, I can turn on talk radio and hear discussion about the Rams much of the year. I can talk with friends and family who follow the Rams. I can go to a game or camp, if I desire. That all goes away once they leave. And, if the NFL ever comes back, so does that experience. So, we’ll just see what happens.
I was just gonna ask if any of the local St.Louis posters
are gonna keep following the Rams if they move to La.
I cant remember if Dak is the only local st louie regular
on this little board or if there are others. Is Trench in St.louis? If i were an omnipotent Time Lord, I’d go back and fix it
so Bidwell lost his team in a poker game, and the new owner
kept the Cardinals in St.Louis,
and I’d fix it soze Carroll Rosenbloom never drowned, and the
LA Rams never fell into the hands of the Evil-Frontiere,
and thus they’d still be in LA.
I’d also make sure Modell never moved the Browns from Cleveland.
Also, the Colts should be in Baltimore.
Indy shouldnt even have a pro team. The Indy team should
be in West Virginia. It could be the WV Fighting Frackers. Also, I’d bring back the Coastal Division.
I believe it was the Rams, Colts, 49ers and Saints.
Or Falcons. I forget.Alrighty then. I’m snowed in. Got lotsa
time on my hands. I got tired of watchin
cars slide down my steep street into car-piles,
so now, I’m a-postin.w
vI agree with all of that, except I’d name WV’s team the Frackin’ Fighters.
DakParticipantIt was an awful decision to pick up the flag.
But, Pettigrew also grabbed the defender’s face mask. Could have been offsetting penalties, but the offensive player’s part was never called by any official.
I watched almost all of that game. I didn’t feel like the Cowboys got calls all game long, but they did seem to benefit late in the game.

DakParticipantI don’t know what WILL happen. But, I really do believe that everything that SK has done and hasn’t done all lead you to believe that he wants his franchise in L.A. He won’t even meet with the local leadership group, which means it’s not that he’s playing hard ball … it’s that he’s not even playing ball.
DakParticipantGood to hear that your daughter has received some therapy for her PTSD. Panic attacks are no joke. My mother was paralyzed by them, and they had nothing to do with PTSD. She’s on anti-anxiety meds now, and much, much better.

Kroenke hasn’t received any authority from NFL owners to move his team, and he’s already planning to build a stadium there. Hmm. It sure looks like he’s paving the way to move to L.A. Is the NFL OK with that type of maneuvering without formal approval? Or, has he received some back channel support for his development/stadium?Interesting note: The report says there are no tax dollars needed. We all know that Kroenke could build something in St. Louis with no tax support, too, if he so wished. And, yet, Kroenke has made no moves to create a similar development in STL.
So. I think no matter what happens, I’d say we can see that Stan’s has plans for L.A., and none for St. Louis, yet.Help me understand. I’m just curious…..
1) Did STL ask the NFL for authority to build the TWA Dome to lure an NFL team?
2) Did STL, which was overlooked for expansion by the NFL , upset the NFL by proceeding to build a stadium without a team?I think Stan will get the support from the NFL and NFL owners for obvious reasons.
1) The fan support has not been in STL to put people in the seats in recent seasons.
2) You’re moving an NFL team from the 22nd market to the 2nd largest market, that will put money in all the owner’s pockets.
2a) In 2012 Time Magazine ranked The Dome as the 7th worst major sports stadium in the USA
2c) In 2008 SI ranked the Dome as the worst NFL with particularly low marks for tailgating, affordability and atmosphere. This is ranked below 50 year old dinosaurs like Candlestick and Oakland Co.
3) The NFL and the TV networks want a team in LA.BTW, I have a friend at work that has a connection with the Walmart empire. He told me months ago that the move to LA was a done deal. It was just a matter of finding additional parking lots when Stan bought the initial 60 acres of land in So Cal.. I think this is it.
I honestly can’t answer your first two questions, because I don’t recall the series of events that led to L.A. leaving for St. Louis.
As for St. Louis fans’ support of this franchise, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s similar to the level of support that the team received in L.A. in the final few years.
It’s not lost on me, the “turnabout is fair play” aspect of a move to L.A. I just wonder if SK has met all of the NFL bylaws in order to move. But, truthfully, I doubt it matters. If SK wants this, and if he plays well with the other owners, he’ll get it. I don’t buy for a minute that the move is a result of anything St. Louis did or didn’t do … if SK can afford to build a stadium in L.A., he could afford to do it here. For the first time, it’s obvious to me that he’d prefer to move the franchise to L.A. He’ll claim it’s because he couldn’t get a deal done in St. Louis, but that’s a funny thing to say when you spend your energy planning a stadium development in L.A. while you’re supposed to be working with St. Louis and Missouri state leaders on a deal here.
DakParticipantFrom everything I’ve read, Winston should have been investigated for rape, and wasn’t because of some dubious decisions by local law enforcement. That alone gives me great pause. I don’t want a guy like that.
DakParticipantKroenke hasn’t received any authority from NFL owners to move his team, and he’s already planning to build a stadium there. Hmm. It sure looks like he’s paving the way to move to L.A. DakParticipantBenny was decisive. He cuts quickly without hesitation. He breaks arm tackles. I really liked the way he developed. The bad part, though, is that he’s always a risk to fumble, imo.
DakParticipantSome of those guys might be good as backups. As for Locker, seems like he’s an injury risk, as well, and the most expensive option among that group.
Kyle Orton is really probably the best backup among that group. He’d be a step up from Hill. But, he nor anyone else on that list is as good as Bradford.
DakParticipantAnyone who thinks that QB is not a priority pick with the Rams at this time is fooling themselves.
Petty or Hundley would be fine with me but, you really want to go in the 2nd and 3rd round before you pick a QB?
You pay for what you get.
Grits
It’s a priority. But, I wonder what type of grade the Rams will have on these QBs. You can’t reach for one at No. 10.
DakParticipantI don’t know what Baltimore did to slow down Antonio Brown, but that was the key in that game. Baltimore is always dangerous in the playoffs. New England can’t feel too comfortable about playing them next week.
DakParticipantI like Kendricks a lot, actually. But, I wouldn’t be surprised if he isn’t back. My bet is that he’ll fetch a pretty nice contract this offseason.
DakParticipantJake Locker had a nice deep ball in college.
It’s easy to fall in love with these QBs when they light up in college, but the NFL game has so many subtleties. You don’t know how they’ll develop the mental part of the game. I still say that young QBs are rushed to start in the NFL way too quickly. I’d consider Petty or someone like him in the mid- to late rounds. I wouldn’t reach and make him the franchise’s future, no way.
January 3, 2015 at 9:59 am in reply to: how do you see 2015? optimistic, pessimistic, neutral, wait-n-see? #15416DakParticipantI don’t know. Last year, at this time, I just knew they’d turn it around in 2014. So, here I am, thinking, yes, again, they can turn it around in 2015.
But. I have no idea.
I will sit back and watch what the Rams do in the offseason, and then make a judgment. I remember when they signed Jake Long and feeling uneasy about having another O-line anchor with injuries in his recent history. After a while, I figure, I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt.
Well, here we are, trying to replace Jake Long. And, the No. 2 overall draft pick still has question marks. Let’s be honest, G-Rob is at least another year from being a polished product … and that’s the optimistic viewpoint.
What they have to do is re-sign Barksdale, sign a starting-caliber center, sign a starting-caliber guard, and then get another lineman early in the draft, for me to feel more optimistic, and even then I’ll be worried about LT.
The QB position, to me, will not change much. There are no good options out on the free agent market, certainly nothing better than Bradford. And, this draft is not the draft to address that position for 2015, or maybe even 2016. Yes, you can take a developmental QB in the mid- to later rounds, but that’s as good as I can hope for.
As for defense, I still think it’s a cornerback and another LB away from having the chance to reach an elite level. I think that could be doable this offseason, and could be addressed through the draft alone.
So, I think with a really good defense, potentially elite defense, you have a chance to win games in 2015. It just depends on the offense and the coaching.
DakParticipantI don’t like any of the quarterbacks that much. Petty in the mid-rounds would be my choice, if I had to choose a QB.
I looked closely at Cook in that game. He was so inconsistent. I mean, he had guys open who had no chance to catch his passes. Then, on a similar pass play, he’d hit them in the chest with a pass. To me, he’s a late-rounder developmental type of QB, if he comes out.
Mariotta, if he drops to 10, OK, maybe you give him a shot. But, if he fell to 10, that just shows that he’s not that coveted, and you’d have to wonder why. Bridgewater dropped in the 1st round last year, so anything’s possible.
After Mariotta, right now, from what I’ve seen and read, I wouldn’t consider a QB from this class in the first two rounds.
O-line would be great in the 1st round, imo. It’s a deep draft at the position, it’s a position of need, No. 10 is a good spot for that position … seems like a natural choice if the Rams can find a player who has versatility at the position. I’m even OK with signing Barksdale AND drafting an OT, with the idea that either the draft pick or Robinson could play guard for the next couple years.
DakParticipantThat guy is a beast. If he’s around in the 2nd round, I’d take him. I bet he goes before that.
DakParticipantI think he’s good. No, really. I do.

vPretty much agree. Bacon-feldspar recently had to replace the AC and furnace. He’s still paying for it. It hurt to do, but had to be done, and long story short, my bedroom now gets cool air in the summer and heat in the winter.
DakParticipantGreg Robinson, hopefully. He’d have to improve and become a dominant force, which is what they drafted him at No. 2 overall to do.
Whoever the QB is.
Maybe Stedman Bailey is that type of guy. He seems to come up big when needed. Plays hard. I could see players wanting to follow his lead.
It would be nice if they could find a center who can anchor that position and lead the entire OL unit.

DakParticipantI didn’t like the Jake Long signing much, because it seemed obvious that he came with a lot of wear and it seemed likely he was on the downswing of his career. I wish he proved me wrong.
I thought Saffold was fine at LT, even if he was an injury risk, too. I don’t know what else the team could have done … maybe concentrated on getting a free agent guard. Drafted an LT earlier. There were some other options.
DakParticipantGood question, wv. Man, that guy, he’s just a dirty player. There’s no getting around it.
DakParticipant“Stay the course” never sounds exciting to fans.
Yeah he should have said “keep on keepin on.”
Or, the more things stay the same, the more different they will be.
I make fun but actually I think he’s right.
I’m partial to keep on truckin’.
DakParticipantI’m going to give it a couple more weeks to digest what’s happened and try to look at everything with a cool head. I just wonder why this team remains so inconsistent. Good against some really good teams, and then poor against beatable teams. Is it youth? Is that all it is? Is it the inability to adjust to new systems? I do believe in continuity, but if the team doesn’t make a big step next year (8-8 won’t cut it), I’ll have to believe that Kroenke should start planning for yet another new start.
DakParticipantI do wonder if the Rams think Long is in their plans in 2015. I tend to believe the Jake Long Era has ended.
December 29, 2014 at 1:03 pm in reply to: Russ Lande explains why cutting ties with Bradford is best option for Rams #14934DakParticipantIf Bradford were a free agent this year, he’d be the top available QB on the market, imo.
DakParticipantTebow? Why don’t we just start Hekker at QB?
DakParticipantA lot depends on who is available in free agency. Will there be a “bargain” type of guard who could start for this team? My sense is if there’s someone that good in free agency, it will cost a premium. The Rams have overspent for interior O-linemen for many years, it seems, and haven’t gotten back the investment. Joseph was a bargain player who we want to replace. Wells was an expensive free agent we want to replace. Barksdale will cost the Rams, and likely eat into any type of money they want to spend on the offensive line.
So, I wonder, can Person come through as a guard? Is he the answer there? Because that would be ideal. You already have him, and you can plug him in. Robinson has to improve, and he should make a big jump next year. So, that leaves center. If the Rams can find a center high in the draft, I’m fine with that. Perhaps they trade down in the 1st round, like was suggested in this thread. If not, you may just have to over-draft the position if the right player is available. Or, the Rams could trade up in the 2nd round if the right center is available.
DakParticipantI’ve read that it’s not a particularly great draft class, but it’s deep on the offensive line.
DakParticipantYeah, JPP had a huge game. It was hard to miss Robinson’s inability to slow him down.
