    I can’t say yet myself.

It’s a bit much to take in at this point.

i’m a little underwhelmed. i like the noteboom and okoronkwo picks. that’s about it.

still think they need a tight end.

but i could be very wrong. i don’t watch college football much at all really so what do i know?

They are all mystery-players to me, but i expected that. What I’m hoping for is to get two solid starters out of that group. I dont mean starters ‘this’ year, but maybe in a year or two.

If nothing else I would think the Tennessee RB would contribute.

Doesnt look like they took any ‘bad boys’ in the Draft. I guess they only want veteran-bad-boys.

I think there are at least 4 future starters in this draft.

Possible, but it is well documented over many years that you are optimistic this time of year. 🙂

All these folks have time to develop and we may have filled out our practice squad with draft picks alone and given the upside of some, that could turn out to be a good thing.

Meat and potatoes draft of lineman and linebackers. I like it in that I think it was exactly what they needed given all the sparkle was picked up in the off-season.

Saving a couple million by trading tavon may help with a signing or two, so we have that going for us.

Rams hit rate on drafts from 2012 is 40% (which is good).

So I just assume they repeat their own hit rate.

Understand, but no 1st or 2nd rounders this year and their percentage is a tad higher than the rest. 🙂

I think they did pretty well considering they did not draft until the 3rd round.

They got some OL guys, one or two of whom may emerge as starters. And they got a fistful of guys for the outside of the defense, and one run stopper LB. I figure if they get a guy or two out of all those DE/OLB types, this draft is a win.

Depth on both lines. Addressed weakness at stopping the run. A lot of competition for edge rusher. That combined with the rebuilt secondary and the addition of Suh and Cooks makes this a pretty good-looking football time right now.

The Rams are going to get a lot of love in the pre-season bullshit lovefest.

Nothing spectacular, mostly a fill in the holes type draft. But you need those guys too, to make a complete roster.
    .
We needed depth on the oline. We needed bodies at lb, etc.

That’s true. And in the end you could be right.

But here’s my thinking. The more picks…the more chances. Usually in rounds 3-7 you have 5 picks, and obviously, this is twice that.

I figure at a minimum, 1 or 2 of the OL will hit, Kiser and O.O. will hit, and at least 1 of the DL will hit. I don’t know if Kelly counts as a hit if he’s the 2A back.

They need some depth and grade B players to add to the recipe. Then the stars can do the rest.

I think the odds of success in the middle rounds are improved by picking linemen.

Just to put it in black n white.

    3 OL (Noteboom, Allen, Demby)
    3 DL (Franklin, Joseph, Lawler)
4 LB/edge (Okoronkwo, Kiser, Howard, Young)

and 1 RB…no WR, no TE, no DBs, no CBs

Notice they drafted an entire front 7 (not that every one of them will make the cut).

    That would be:

    Okoronkwo…Kiser…Howard…Young
    …Franklin……Joseph….Lawler

See the fits? Franklin is a DE/3-tech DT, Howard is Barron, Young is Barwin.

    I don’t think this is a coincidence.

i think 2 starters is about the best one could hope for. and even that is far from guaranteed although i think noteboom and ogbo have as decent a chance as any third and fifth rounder can…

more importantly the rams have cooks and peters. that’s the big thing.

Put them all on roids and win the SB in 18. Or 19. Whatever.

Obviously, The Rams are looking at the Oline in 19. Well done.

Yes, the odds of landing players is increased the more picks one has. I think this was smart strategy…whether or not it works this particular time.

I love what the Rams did this weekend. Snead stayed away from the Auburn players and I really think he kicked the rest of the league’s ass.

I’ve always been envious of 3-4 teams who can pick up guys who are a little too small that turn into pass rush terrors. I think the Rams did just that with Obo.

I’m really impressed with the first 3 defensive players that Snead took. They all have athletic numbers and were really productive in college. The Franklin kid didn’t play in a big conference but he was still put up some nice stats.

Someone, I think it was Pat Kirwan, wrote an article about how explosive players have a score of 70 if you combine the vertical, bench press, and broad jump. An elite athlete like Donald registered a score of 77.

    Here’s Obo & Franklin:
    Franklin-Myers: 69
    Obo: 75

And Kiser outperformed Ogletree on EVERY combine test, except the broad jump.

I really wouldn’t be surprised to see any of those 3 defensive guys step in this year and make good plays. All 3 of them seem like they could help provide the foundation of a 3-4 defense for a good bit.

Noteboom’s quick feet are really impressive when I watched a little of his play on youtube. That quickness is verified by his short shuttle (which should be .5 seconds slower than the 40 time for players who have good quickness.)

Noteboom put up a sub 5.00 40 time, which seems to be important for LOT prospects, & backed that up with a 4.44 in the short shuttle. For comparison’s sake, GRob’s 40 time was 4.92 but his shuttle was 4.86.

Noteboom also looked really good in space on a play or two from his bowl game. It’s easy to see him making some plays in the screens that the Rams were successful with last year.

I have no idea about the center, but he seems a little small. We’ll see about him.

    I liked your whole take.

I may be higher on Allen than you are.

and in production in college. i didn’t know anything about him, but the more i read the more impressed i am.

it should be interesting. how this defense develops. and if kiser and ogbo can make an impact this season.

Outside of Noteboom, this draft seemed to be all about solid role players. Which is fine, they have stars…Peters, Joyner, Donald, Suh, even Brockers, plus Whitworth, Saffold, I say Goff even if he is an apprentice star, Cooks, Woods, Kupp, and Gurley.

Noteboom is athletic enough to envision him becoming a real NFL LOT. Unless he just becomes Alex Barron.

While Noteboom has enough athletic potential to be more than just a role player, mostly this draft just sets out to plug holes with serious role players like (IMO) Allen, Kiser, Obo, and Kelly. Not stars, but solid middle class. I think all 4 of those guys make it.

Plus I think a few of the others develop too.

This is what they would be ideally:

Franklin: 5-tech who can sub at 3-tech and can play DT in 4 DL pass rush sets.

Demby: a college tackle to NFL guard convert in the Kromer mold (for the absolute ideal of that see Jahri Evans)

Joseph: I have very little idea about this guy, but if he works out he’s just a pure NT

Young: was hampered by injuries, but ideally he’s a strongside OLB/rusher in the Barwin mold

    Howard: Barron

Lawler: ideally, a 3/4 end who can also pass rush some at left (strongside) DE in 4 DL sets

i think ogbo could surprise. not this year. but in the future. he’s got a chance to be a good player. more than just a role player. but yeah. i agree.

As I mentioned, Noteboom, should be the future at ROT. Don’t be shocked if Havenstein is not resigned. Demby and Allen are the future here as well. Me thinking Blythe is gone, Eldrenkamp could take over one guard spot, with Demby to the other spot. Kiser is probably better suited to move an inside LB. He did that at Notre Dame. Howard is probably moving to Safety.

Kiser is from Virginia and he was drafted at ILB. He won’t be moving there, he was there all through college and remains there with the Rams.
