;I haven’t seen all the game yet, but some big questions seem to have been answered.

Donald is better than last year.
The Rams were ready to play.
    Foles showed quite a lot.
    The OL played well. imo
    Tavon is a threat.
    Cignetti did well.
    Marquez deserves a roster spot.
    Robinson did well.

You are right on all counts except GRob. GRob had an awful day. Unless you mean another Robinson…

    I meant Marcus Robinson.

I haven’t watched the OL. It did look like they were getting some push. I think they gave up 2 sacks and had 1 penalty. That is what I am going on there.

Robinson, otoh, has me a tiny bit worried.

Oh No, I rewatched the TD pass to Kendricks. Foles threw that off his back foot.

    Well, I wouldn’t-a-thunk-it!

Got back from the driving range and am amazed by the result. Fantastic.

Sounds like it was a weird game. Hard to tell from the box score what really happened.

But, I see we got 3 sacks? That’s encouraging. Seems as if the D played fairly well, with 14 points yielded by the O and STs. (Just watched the NFL Channel highlights)

I’ll be interested to see reports on the OL.

But for me the biggest issue is how our DL is empowered to play. With 3 sacks and Lynch held to 78 (?) that’s a pretty good sign.

A good start. Over .500 for the first time in forever. Next week 2-0?

We need it. And you know what? Ram fans DESERVE IT!

    Indeed, my friend.

Let us savor the undefeated Rams 🙂

As I said in the prediction thread, the Rams would win this one in overtime 34-31. Sure, you all laughed then–thought it was a big joke. But I just knew it–something in my gut.

In any case—-I haven’t been this happy about a football victory in years.

    Foles: Love him.

    Cignetti: Love him.

Donald: I want to have his baby.

    Tavon: Love him too.

What a great football Sunday. I have all week to enjoy it.

ya know. just thinking out loud. but playing without that running game should help this passing game get some confidence. especially with a performance like this against a premier defense. should come into handy later on when they need the passing game…

    like they did today.

On Foles, what I see are the ‘intangibles’. That’s hard to put into words, much less quantify. I got that vibe from him… that of a player who ain’t perhaps pretty, or a stat making machine (although today he had very good stats), but perhaps ‘more’ importantly a guy who can find a way to win and inspires others to do the same. There was a different ‘feel’ to this game, for me.

Now don’t get me wrong… when the Hawks took the lead late in the 4th I fell back into my chair with a degree of grim resignation just like most… BUT….when they got the ball again it was different for me, than the last two years anyway, perhaps longer. I didn’t give up…. but more than that…. I really thought they had a shot to pull out the miracle come from behind.

There was determination on that Ram’s team today that was palpable. I don’t put that all in Foles performance, but I certainly think he led the way. – JamesJM

Yeah, Foles definitely aint pretty. He aint Bert Jones,
but he ‘is’ kinda ‘old-school’ in a way.
    He’s tenacious and a gamer. He’s Roman Gabriel-ish.

He’s also a leader. The man is a leader.
And he knows “people” — its very obvious
in his statements that he understands
    human-psychology, fan-psychology, player-psychology.

I was out of town for this game, thus missed game chat with “TheRamsHuddle” folks, but I was able to watch most of the game live and was in a group text with some Rams buddies during the game….

anyway, I always rip Tavon any chance I get to rib my Ram buddies… I’m not high on Tavon and they absolutely love him….

When Seattle scored their 1st TD on the punt return, I blamed Tavon on my texts for calling fair catch on the Rams 1st possession, then the loss of yardage by Tavon on the Rams initial drive that pinned the Rams at the 1 and forced the punt…. my buddies let me have it the rest of the game….

I understood why Tavon fair caught the ball (on the 10) but he did have space to run……ala the Colts game from a few seasons back….

Am I a believer in Tavon? Not 100% sold, but Cignetti and Foles hav the ability to use Tavon moreso than the clip board QBs that have played the past 2 seasons……

BTW, Jared Cook was an unsung hero in this game, big plays that moved the chains…. and Stedman Bailey was clutch…….

    BTW, where is Brian Quick?

    GO TAVON!!!!

    BTW, where is Brian Quick?

He was held back on inactives. The thing seems to be, he is physically ready, but not entirely game ready because he didn’t do that much in the pre-season.

Add to it that Marquez can play on 4 special teams units, and it kind of nudged BQ to the inactives.

What this means is that the offense is getting up and going far better than anyone expected, and yet they STILL don’t have Gurley, Mason, or Quick.

I smell blood in the water. You smell blood in the water?

Yeah that’s blood in the water….

just want to add one thing. to kind of temper the excitement around foles. he got lucky. the terms we use. the intangibles. the improvisation. being a gamer. it could have easily gone the other way. the pass to tavon was woefully underthrown and should have been a td. the pass to cook in the first half was a terrible throw and should easily have been a touchdown. instead it was just a first down. that jump shot to cunningham everyone raves about. easily could have been a disaster. those things aren’t always going to go well. i don’t think foles is that good. i’m still of the belief that he ultimately needs a strong running game to mask his shortcomings. mostly his lack of arm strength.

but most importantly, that touchdown to kendricks was also woefully underthrown. if bailey doesn’t trip over his own feet. he easily breaks up that pass. and we might be looking at a rams’ loss.

just wanted to add that to here. although i do think he played well. don’t get me wrong. it’s good to know he can make plays when the rams need it. and that’ll come in handy. but ultimately i think the rams need the running game fast or defenses will start making foles pay.

I agree with a lot of that with the exception of the shovel pass to Cunningham. That wasn’t a blind pass. There is no reason to think he threw that desperately with no awareness of whether Cunningham was open or not. I think he had time to see that he was open. So the worst that could have happened was an incompletion.

Also, while I agree what you say should be borne in mind, there are guys who are “luckier” than others. What’s that cliche about luck being opportunity met with preparation? Obviously we will see over time, but…yeah. That game didn’t look like a 115 passer rating, or whatever he got.

Well, I dunno. I think he was also “unlucky” at times. I mean
how many games is he gonna get blind-sided, stripped and give up a TD ?

Let us hope it is not a regular occurrence.

As a gazillion posters have noted this year — if he’s significantly better than Austin and Clemmens, the offense should win a few more games. And so far he looks significantly better than a second string QB. If anything, he looks like a guy that just might scare teams in the fourth quarter in close games.

well i’m gonna go on record as saying foles can be a poor man’s 6’6″ russell wilson…

    hahaha!!!

i do feel confident with him under center. i think he’ll continue to make clutch plays. definitely an upgrade over what we’ve had the past 2 seasons provided he stays healthy.

    overall i’m happy with him.

Just rewatched the condensed version again.

Seattle spent most of the game with 8 men in the box, and on a few plays, 9 men. Really, does Benny Cunningham rate that much, or was it just a feeling that Rams would be very conservative? This allowed the play action and screen passes to work. Hags actually blitzed more than the Rams did, and weren’t very effective out of faking the blitz then dropping back. Gregg Williams clearly has the better coached D that game.

Hags missed Chancellor. Baily played deep and basically rarely broke on a ball in the air, which allowed the long completions.

Rams OL passed blocked pretty good, only 1 sack allowed to a DL, and 3 throw away passes. Run blocking was spotty, but the 8 in the box had some of that against them.

Foles was very good about going quickly from his first read to the next. He also is more of a “curve ball pitcher”, vs Bradford, who is more of a fastball pitcher. (only comparison I will make, ever. Promise) This allows him to drop the ball into places like the throw to Baily that previous Rams QB’s couldn’t do consistently. Wilson also has that talent, which makes him so effective at times. The key was, Wilson never had the time to make those type of passes, he was constantly being moved around by Rams DL.

I don’t think this team has a let down. They seem to be self motivated, and face it last year, 30 minutes into their season, they were playing a 3rd string QB, and had lost Chris Long for 1/2 the year. Not very inspiring.

Was this game by Foles like Warners first game vs the Ravens? Beating a good D at home, when no one really knew how you would do? Time will tell.

WOW. Was NOT expecting that. I don’t know that I’ve ever been so surprised by a total performance. We beat a really good team, with calls going against us … and we beat them straight up. I usually see when we beat a big dog that we lucked out or got a cheap victory. Not this time.

    The GREAT.

    1) Aaron Donald is mind blowing.

    2) Nick Foles threw a multitude of complex throw perfectly, and led the team over about a dozen roadblocks.

    3) CL and Brockers were a totally different Force on the line.

    4) Benny Cunningham made about 5 major league plays that extended drives, and he’s OUR THIRD BACK.

    5) Cignetti has a better feel for the game than any playcaller we’ve had in a decade. Neither Foles, nor anyone on the offense, looked confused or surprised, UNLIKE THE SEAHAWKS DEFENSE, who were caught totally out of position NUMEROUS times. He called a GO route for a TE on 3rd and 5. Crazy.

    The Good

    5) Quinn got his two. I expect us to push for the all time sack record this year, and have a couple games with double digit sacks.

    6) Tavon made noise.

    7) The unbelievable set of blocks thrown by Janoris and Marquez during the run back.

    8) Our rookie O linemen hung in just fine. They weren’t great, but they made it work.

    9) Joyner was a missile, finally playing at the speed I knew of him at FSU.

    10) Roberson came in fine for Tru, and really walled off well in coverage numerous times. The possible PI at the end of the game … they COULD have called it because they always call junk on us, but both men were hand fighting, both got their heads around, and he didn’t push off until it was clear the ball was sailing out of bounds.

    11) Our safety play is superb.

    12) Hayes was visible on multiple rushes.

    13) Cook. Clutch. He keeps that level of focus up consistently, his athleticism is going to start freaking people out.

    14) The fans. Way to make noise.

    15) Marquez, thank you for catching the ball.

    16) Greg, dude, nice job.

    17) Big boys getting downfield on screens … nice.

    The Bad

    18) Pead, hold the ball. Or better yet, just play special teams please.

    19) Greg Robinson … settle down. Concentrate. You’re bigger and faster than everyone, you don’t need to spaz every play. Trust your technique.

    20) Hekker, that’s your one terrible kick gimme this year, c’mon man.

    The Ugly

    21) How is that reffing not drawing attention? I’m just confused. Again. And again.

Really great game, a pleasure to watch, and maybe more enjoyable than any other game in the last decade. I got to watch it on a phone in my brother in law’s house with my oldest stepson … awesome bonding experience and memory.
