That was sweet!
October 4, 2015 at 7:36 pm #31705wvParticipantOh Yeah.
Awesome.
I just watched the highlights
at NFL.com. Looking forward to watching
the game on replay.Huge road win against an excellent team.
Not the same ole sorry-ass-fisher rams,
apparently.w

October 4, 2015 at 7:40 pm #31707canadaramParticipantSo incredibly excited. That was a different offense in the second half! Did not expect that kind of change. Hugs for everybody.
October 4, 2015 at 7:48 pm #31709TrenchRamParticipantI hate to be second guessing after such a huge win, but did anyone else think that the Rams should have gone for 2 after the final touchdown? It seemed to me like a no-brainer. If they had missed, it wouldn’t have made much difference in what Arizona needed. If they had made it, the Cardinals would have been driving to tie instead of win with a field goal at the end. The announcers never mentioned the possibility of going for 2, so maybe I’m crazy, but it’s what I would have done.

NO, 24 – 15 gives them a 9 point lead. That makes it a 2 score game. If they go for 2 and don’t make it, Arizona can tie the game with a TD and a 2 point conversion.
October 4, 2015 at 8:02 pm #31712ZooeyModeratorThis win was less dominant that the win over Seattle, imo.
But the Rams won because of turnovers and BBDB defense. Arizona seemed to control the game most of the time. They had more TOP, ran 20 more plays than the Rams (71-51), gained more yards (447-328), got more first downs (26-13), and were penalized less.
The Rams recovered two fumbles, and intercepted a pass, and stiffened in the red zone.
In the end, they ran effectively.
All of which this team is designed to do.
So…yay.

Nick Wagoner @nwagoner 51s52 seconds ago
Rams coach Jeff Fisher said LB Alec Ogletree will require ankle surgery. Could be candidate for IR with designation to return but unsure now"Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. " Philip K. Dick
October 4, 2015 at 8:03 pm #31714nittany ramModeratorAfter looking hopeless in the first half, the o-line finally got the zone blocking scheme working in the second, and against a pretty stout front 7 that was well rested from not being on the field that much.
Maybe this is the beginning of good things for that o-line.
October 4, 2015 at 8:06 pm #31715PA RamParticipantIf they can run for 146 yards every week they will win more games than they lose.
That’s a fact. I just made it up.
Anyway–I believe that would be the case.
In any event–I’m enjoying this one. I was probably the only guy in my work pool to pick the Rams.
Guess who will be smiling on Monday?
Well…not me, I’ll be at work. But I’ll feel good about the pick anyway.

Bigtime misinformation there…

Well, it may have been less dominant, but it was a victory over a superior team than the Seahawks and it was on the road too.
I know that Raiders loss is probably still stinging, but that’s no reason to come here and run down the Rams on our own message board.
October 4, 2015 at 8:13 pm #31718Eternal RamnationParticipantGreat win! Watched on as good of stream as I’ve found with zero stops or breakups . That Gurley is something else running clock instead of scoring his first TD that’s Faulk smarts right there. He’s so smooth it doesn’t look like he’s running that fast but he’s just blowing by people ,fast people! Foles had me worried early but holy shit some of those throws were incredible. What’s the news of Ogletree ?
October 4, 2015 at 8:51 pm #31724InvaderRamModeratorthe most important thing to take out of this game is the running game. it took until the second half to get there, but gurley knocked some rust off. the oline perhaps is starting to gel. and that will be the bread and butter of the offense. so that’s real important going forward. the offense has something real to build on. the seahawks win was great, but it’s not a real formula. THIS is a real formula. they just gotta keep pushing forward. watching gurley. i don’t think that’ll be a problem. i can see him being a leader of this offense much like jackson was with his physicality and marshall was with his intelligence.
and i still don’t think he’s quite at full strength. still getting in game shape. still learning. but his instincts started kicking in today. and dare i say with only 2 games his instincts already look better than steven’s! tee hee! i don’t know about faulk level good. but he’s a more natural runner than steven. i hope i’m not jinxing him. but he’s got great vision. gets to the outside quickly. nimble feet in traffic. good balance.
i thought the defense could have performed better but hung in at the end.
a couple of years ago this is a loss. maybe they are learning.

yes. on the road. against a hot and confident cardinals team. that’s huge. this is a game the rams lose in the past. play a tough divisional game on the road and find a way to shoot themselves in the foot. winning at home is one thing. but to do it on the road? impressive.
October 4, 2015 at 9:46 pm #31730NERamParticipantWatched the game on internet TV, so no chance to rewatch. Just wondering what changed when Gurley started to let loose. In the first half he was getting hit 3 yards back from the LOS, and then, after Fitzgerald’s fumble, it seemed like everything opened up. Don’t think the Cards D was gassed, the Rams certainly didn’t wear them out in the first half. So what changed? If this is a glimpse of the future, just wow.

It’s a mystery. I hope same film watchers can tell us.
Whatever it was…once Gurley popped that 23 yard run, he was just dominant after that. Against a good defense.
A lot I agree with in this thread. Arizona was arguably the hottest team the first 3 weeks of the season, and they had homefield on this, and the Rams took them. It’s a big win, and puts the Rams at 2-0 against the division. If the Rams can establish a running game, the passing game will improve. And the defense has played consistently well with the exception of the Washington game. It’s certainly “breaking” less than it has the past couple of years.
They threw serious roadblocks at Pittsburgh and Arizona who were both lighting up scoreboards. This is a good win.
On to Green Bay.

Well here’s one thing, though it’s just one. According to the announcers, in the 2nd half, they used more sets with both Harkey and Kendricks. Remember, Kendricks in a lot of respects and Harkey too to a lesser extent can line up all over the formation. So basically they switched to more power-oriented sets.
October 4, 2015 at 10:14 pm #31734InvaderRamModeratorearly going i know. but by all accounts arizona has a good run defense.
and by all accounts green bay has not had a good run defense so far this season.
i’ll be interested to see if they can carry this over to green bay.
instead of just one half. can they do it over an entire game? defense is gonna need some help next week against the best quarterback in the league.
October 4, 2015 at 10:16 pm #31736NERamParticipantSo basically they switched to more power-oriented sets.
Tremendous difference, night and day difference. I’m watching Gurley in the first half, thinking OK, he’s a rookie; gotta learn the system, gotta shake the rust off, gotta get used to the NFL, yadda yadda yadda.
Second half I’m on the edge of my seat, screaming my head off.
Bring on the Cheese- Men.
I’d feel better with Ogletree on the field, tho.

While the OL did a fine job in this game. I give equal credit to the fact that the Rams put a H-Back in the back field to block in the second half. Picking off that first defender is huge to the running game.

Tyrann Mathieu does seem to come up with inopportune tomahawk chops to dislodge the ball from Cooks hands doesn’t he? That long pass down the seam to Cook several years ago, when he knocked away a TD just before Cook crossed the goal line… A TD taken away today when there was a clear height advantage that could have and should have been successfully exploited…

We’ll know when we can access snap counts.

Yes, I know that he was on the field for at least one play in the 2nd half. That’s all that I noticed. I’m sure that there were other plays. I don’t think that he was targeted. Similarly, I only remember Britt been thrown to once, and that wasn’t until later in the game.
October 5, 2015 at 12:39 am #31748canadaramParticipantOn Gurley’s 52 yard run Cook was the H-back. He actually made a decent block on his man who was backside pursuit. Then he stood and watched, but Gurley was way down field by that point. After cursing them for the last 3 weeks I’m warming up to those stretch the field running plays.

I noticed that too. I had put it in another thread but it belongs here:
In this play he lines up in the backfield, and look at how they use him. It’s especially clear in the re-play.
October 5, 2015 at 1:14 am #31756InvaderRamModeratordare i say they rallied around todd gurley… and played some good football???
gurley on that 50 yarder showed some nifty footwork to avoid being taken down sooner. doesn’t necessarily look for contact if he can help it. he’s got really good footwork. good balance.

Yeah I agree. He is a very fluid, athletic runner, especially for his size. He is reminding me a lot of Fred Taylor.
