great HC, great QB, horrendously bad division

That really sums it up. Great head coach and an all-time QB. And that covers up a lot of warts elsewhere.

Most Patriots teams the past 10 years have not been more talented than their playoff opponents (including Jacksonville this weekend). They had great defenses in 2003 and 2004 but their defenses have been pretty average since. They went years without any standout WRs.

But better coaching- and sometimes really it’s partly also facing pretty bad coaching- results in them making a fraction of the mistakes of their opponents, Brady capitalizing when the opposing teams soil themselves, and on to victory… tack on the AFC East being pretty dysfunctional otherwise for 15 years and they waltz into a playoff bye annually with relative ease.

I firmly believe Belichick treats September most years as extended preseason and tries new and various things because he knows they have that luxury in that the rest of the division will fade away by Thanksgiving.

Anyway, living in New England since fall 1998 that’s my observation….

Makes sense. Brady knows the system like the back of his hand and still works hard to perfect his craft. Still hate him.

boners by the opponent. amazing in that some of these NE playoff wins with a shitty running game… or just plain luck.

    Seattle vs NE 2014
    Sea 164 rushing yards,
    NE 57 rushing yards
Brady 2 picks with properly inflated balls.
Lynch, 102 yards rushing, SHOULD’VE been, 103 yards rushing…. but Pete Carrol get’s fancy and Wilson gets picked on the goal line….. OMG!

Baltimore vs New England 2014 season,
*Ravens 136 yards rushing; 292 passing
*NE 14 rushing yards, 400+ passing yards passing deflated balls in 20 degree weather…. Flacco critical pick with less than 2 min to play, damn, poor Joe F and John Harbaugh

    Baltimore vs NE 2011
Brady 57 passer rating, 2 picks, no TDs,
    Ravens rush for 116
K Billy Cundiff missing 36 yard FG with seconds left…. FUCK! poor Joe F and John Harbaugh

    Chargers NE
Poor Marty S… freaking painful playoffs, this
Missed FG 54 yarder with seconds left.
    SD 148 rushing yards,
    NE 51 rushing yards.
The Killer, Brady gets picked in the 4th qtr by McGree, but McGree fumbles the ball back… HOLY COW….
Brady 57 passer rating. with 3 picks…in SD.

    2001
    Raiders Tuck Rule
Brady ZERO TDs, 1 pick, 1 fumble and 1 tuck rule. Holy Cow.
Vineteri is still kicking the ball today, but not so much in the snow. one of the few games that I actually felt bad for the Raiders…. They got screwed man.

    Pittsburgh vs NE
    Steelers, 23 1st downs
    NE 15 1st downs.
    Bledsoe in for injured Brady
17 points by NE ST’s: Troy Brown returns a blocked FG for a TD and a punt return for a TD….

    RAMS vs NE
    NE = 2 for 11 on 3rd down conversions
    NE 147 total passing yards
pick 6 and Proehl fumble result in 14 points to the team team with the walk through tape. YUCK, FUCK, and SHIT….

“great HC, great QB, horrendously bad division”

Cant argue with that. Course beating up on bad division opponents only gets you so far. The Pats beat up on the playoff teams, too.

At any rate, we alllll know Belichick is the best — but why is he so much better than the other coaches? I dont get the ‘why’ of it. No-one else has done it this LONG in the post-rules-change era.

Belichick has some ‘special talent.’ I dont know what it is though, and no-one else seems to know either, cause Ive watched a gazillion youtubes with ex-players discussing it. And all they ever say is cliches.
