I will start off with a stat. The run game in Detroit.

Last year it ranked 30th in attempts, 30th in yards, and 26th in yards per attempt.

Here’s some stats that go along with that: According to espn, last year Stafford threw 18.2% of his passes while ahead, 64.9% while behind, and 17% while tied.

    Coincidence? I is thinking notski.

In terms of the run game in Detroit, how many times did they rank in even the top 15 in either yards or YPA since 2009?

Once. In 2011, they were 13th in YPA. And…that’s it.

So I think there’s truth to the idea that Stafford will find new and undreamt of luxuries playing for the Rams. Like, for example, a running game. This will put MS in a position to be a good one.

I am guessing we may see Quarterbacking like we haven’t seen since John Hadl.
I dunno how many people remember the big John Hadl/Harold Jackson year
but it was a LOT of fun to watch. The ball was flying all over the place.

I expect to see the deep ball again, which should
help McVay’s short-game. The little screens and such, should be
better now that the entire field is threatened all the time.

But. I still think we are looking at a 10-win-team
if the OLine isnt upgraded just a bit.

Brady got all the pub as per usual, and the Bucs D
got a ton of pub, but what impressed me most about the Bucs
championship run was OLine. Seemed to me everytime Brady
wanted to go deep to Evans or whoever, he had an amazingly
clean pocket. I was startled at just how much time they
gave him. And then there’s Russell Wilson, Aaron Rogers, etc.

Can the Rams build a championship Oline?
    We’ll see.

I’m not ready to commit until I see what they can retain and/or add.

I’m guessing we’ll see a top 7-10 QB with top 5 stats due to the offense he is in.

If the defense is still top 5 and they don’t suffer a rash of injuries, 12-4.

anything less and i will be disappointed.

for what they gave up that’s the least he should do.

    like jalen ramsey expectations.

Who was the longest tenured Rams “high pick or big performance or both” starting qb? In can only do since the 70s cause that’s when I started. I count only years they started.

    In chronological order.

    Ferragamo: 79-80, 82-63: 4 years, 41 games
    Everett: 86-93, 8 years, 105 games
    Warner: 99-2003, 4 years, 50 games
    Bulger: 2003-2009, 8 years, 95 games
    Bradford: 2010-2013, 4 years, 49 games
    Goff: 2016-2020, 5 years, 69 games

    Stafford: 2021-

Stafford just turned 33. It is rare that QBs go into their 40s. At best, Stafford will retire in 4 years. That is a guess.

i think he needs at least five highly productive years with the rams before i can say it was a good trade.

He’s 33, and there were qbs in the playoffs who were drafted in years before he was (2009) and were still viable in 2020. They include Rivers (2004), Roethlisberger (2004) Rodgers (2005), Brees (2001), and Brady (2000). If we give him the Rodgers time frame, Aaron is playing next year and shows no signs of decline. By a measure like that, Stafford ought to be good through at least 2025. Even if you use Rivers as the measure and not Rodgers, that still takes Stafford through 2025.

I’m still not over the trade…..I really hate this trade….

I remember when the Rams signed Bartkowski in 86… he played 11 years with ATL…. Stafford dumped 13 years in the Motor City…

This IS a Hadl trade… only this time , the Rams are the Packers of that deal…. Les Snead is no Don Klosterman..

Stafford better stay healthy or the Rams are really fucked with no TD Wolford..

I like the trade. Goff would have been fine, but I like Stafford better. Goff was on a better path for a time, but then he just sort of lost his way. imo

I don’t think the Rams are thinking about 5 years from now. I think they’re focusing on just the next several years while Donald, Ramsey, Kupp, and Woods are all under contract. They think Stafford is the missing piece to winning an NFL championship during that time. If that happens, the trade will be a success, if not, the trade will be a failure.

33 is the new 28 for a QB in the NFL.

    The QB-friendly rules-changes make it a lot
    safer to be a QB.

Its not gonna be a big deal anymore
    to see 40 year-old QBs.

Possession-WR’s might last a bit longer
    too, i would think.
