4 completely different types, styles, and levels of qbs–all good.

I’m not sure where to put this, but I’ll put it here, i guess.   They cover various things, but the part i thought was good, was the discussion of the Bills and Josh Allen.   GCossell says Josh Allen ran the offense perfectly.  The Bills defense was decimated so they made the decision not to attack down the field against KC.

I’m in and out on the Chiefs/Ravens game. It’s on in another room and I’m not really sitting down watching it, just watching parts. It’s tied 7/7 at the end of the 1st.

End of third quarter:  KC 57 total plays, Balt 36.

Time of possession: KC 29 minutes , Balt 16 minutes.

    Total yards about even.

I spoke too soon. Ravens, 2 endzone turnovers.

Spags defense doing this, just like in super bowl 42 with the Giants against the Patz.

Yeah, Ravens minus 3 in turnovers.    Two fumbles, One int.

Ah well.   The media is gonna decorticate Lamar all week.   Just like they did, Josh Allen.

Also eight penalties for 95 yards against Baltimore.   Three for 30 against KC.

Four sacks allowed by Baltimore’s Oline.   Two allowed by KC

wasn’t lamar responsible for two of those turnovers?

i still think he’s a great qb, but he screwed up.

Lions, 280 yards in the first half, including 148 rushing. 9ers 131 yards. Goff 13 of 20, Purdy 7 of 15.

    Long way to go though.

That was a screwed up game. Lions shoulda had it.

But what happened today was, both of the more “playoff veteran” teams won it.

Goff played well enough to be in the Super Bowl.

I mean, ironically it was the rest of the team that let down Goff, not the other way around.

So the Ravens only handed the ball to RBs six times, i guess.   The pundits are all talking about the playcalling.     That ‘does’ seem a bit strange.  Six runs?

I dunno.  Maybe Harbaugh just put the game on Lamar.

One thing i noticed that i havent seen discussed, was the way Spags’ defense contained Lamar.   I mean, the chiefs passrushers got pressure, but they ALSO were extremely lane-savvy if thats a term.   They were playing games that Lamar was not able to figure out.   Reminded me a bit of what the Rams used to do to Russell Wilson back when he was in his prime.

Maybe most teams dont have the talent to execute what the Chiefs D did.   I dunno.

But it was somethin to see.

Albert Breer on an Eisen vid, quoted Spags.

Spags said this about the KC defense: “This is the deepest well of smart players that ive ever had in my career”

This is exactly what i thought when i watched the extended highlights of the Chiefs/Ravens game.   First time I’ve seen a pundit say it though.  Almost all the pundits just blamed the Baltimore OC for not running the ball more.

Breer says Spags clogged all of Lamar’s running lanes with a kindof fake blitz-ish-ness.  They dared Lamar to beat them in the air.  And he couldnt do it.

They were run blitzing and daring Baltimore to pass. The thing about a run blitz of course is that if you pass instead then it’s a pass blitz.

I said something somewhere about the Spags defensive system. It’s taken from the system Reid’s DC ran with the Eagles way back when. Among other things, it builds in really smart blitz packages.

I originally read up on all this when the Rams hired Spags. But we never really saw the Spags defense with the Rams because by the time he had built what he wanted in 2011, a massive injury epidemic wiped that defense out. He was forced to start corners they signed off the street during the season. I once asked Demoff in a chat session if the injuries were so extensive in 2011 that they just started to think it was funny every time someone new got injured. He basically said yes, in its own dark way it got so preposterous it was actually kind of funny. In the history of Rams massive injury epidemics it ranks  2nd to 2022.

So I researched the Spags defense for nothing. It never went anywhere with the Rams.

Here I am, then, 14 years later, able to make some comments on the Spags defense in a KC/SF super bowl.

IMO? That defense will be what wins the game and allows Mahomes to outscore SF.

I didn’t see either game. Championship weekend is my favorite football weekend of the year. Two great games. I like it better than the Super Bowl which always is a bit surrealistic.

But I had to go visit my in-laws on Sunday, and they have not only No Interest in sports, they actively hate sports and hold sports fans in disdain.

I did see bits of the Lions-49ers game on my frequent bathroom trips, though.
