Up and down game. Some good signs though.
What say you. Vent, analyze, ponder…
September 17, 2017 at 7:38 pm #74455AgamemnonParticipantSeptember 17, 2017 at 7:49 pm #74456Eternal RamnationParticipantGoff couldn’t handle the moment the lb knew the play from the get go. Run D better get sorted out by Thursday Hyde went for 124 against the hags Woods needs some discipline. I expect the DL get’s better but the secondary is in trouble if Tru misses any time.
September 17, 2017 at 7:51 pm #74457znModeratorGoff 15 of 25 (60%) for 224, 8.96 YPA, 1 TD, 1 INT, 2 sacks, qb rating of 86.03 (estimated not official)
Gurley, 16 for 88, 5.5 YPC, 1 TD, 1 fmbl lost

September 17, 2017 at 7:53 pm #74459nittany ramModeratorI like their resiliency. They fought back and tied the score.
Gurley began to look like the guy they drafted.
Goff isn’t seeing the whole field yet, but he looks like he’s going to be really good.
The Rams run defense is a work in progress. It looks like the LBs are out of position a lot. I hope it’s just a question of the lack of experience in this defense. That can be fixed. If they are simply being overpowered then the Rams have a huge problem.
September 17, 2017 at 8:03 pm #74464HerzogParticipantWoods catches that TD pass and we win this game. This is a decent team and we will only get better.
Gurley and Goff are the real deal.
September 17, 2017 at 8:25 pm #74466PA RamParticipantHah! What happened to my post? Weird.
Anyway–not posting all that again. Had trouble posting a gif so I wrote a scathing review of the game–around 3,000 words or so, I believe(I didn’t count them). Anyway–I’m having a posting performance kind of like the Rams playing performance today.
I’ll get better.
I will hold myself accountable.
I promise.

I may have screwed that up accidently. You had a gif that wasn’t working and I tried to fix it. I think I may have hit edit before noticing you had added to the post. And it was for nothing because I couldn’t fix the gif anyway.
I apologize PA. Just being overzealous I guess. My bad.

September 17, 2017 at 8:50 pm #74474InvaderRamModeratorgurley had a heck of a game. should have had more yards. maybe even another td if not for woods committing a boneheaded error. it was encouraging.
goff had a good game up until staring down kupp. the linebacker read it the whole way. it had no chance. but you kind of figured goff would have these types of errors. this is only the ninth game of his career. i really do consider this a rookie season of sorts. he hasn’t played 16 games yet. he switched schemes. the team had just moved last season. lots of moving parts and he’s raw. he just needs to learn from this and move on. hopefully, he will.
the receivers were completely silenced in the second half. watkins, kupp, woods, austin…
run defense was atrocious. and just when we thought they might have the run game contained, they had a brain fart again on that last touchdown drive. i hope it’s fixable.
donald looked disruptive. he can only get better as he knocks the rust off.
September 18, 2017 at 5:54 am #74497nittany ramModeratorAt least with this loss we no longer have to worry about all the talk of going undefeated becoming a distraction.
The living members of the 72 Dolphins can breathe easier.
September 18, 2017 at 7:02 am #74498canadaramParticipantThat was some sloppy run defense. As bad a game that I can remember Ogletree playing.
September 18, 2017 at 7:46 am #74499wvParticipantI didnt see the game, just some hi-lites. I see the Wash’s got 230 yards on the ground.
I didnt think Aaron Donald would be in top-form, and i thot Wash would take advantage of him.
Still too early to say much about ‘any’ team in the NFL. Maybe Wash will win twelve games, who knows.
Best thing by far about Sunday — they came back. Show’d somethin.

up the gut, sweeps, nor draw plays…
Carlos Hyde ran for 120+ yards on 15 carries yesterday in Seattle. (8+ YPC)
Rams better figure out the run D before Thursday…..

September 18, 2017 at 5:01 pm #74528OzonerangerParticipantDuring the second half, the announcers were commenting the the Rams coaches “were going ballistic” on the Refs…They said it twice…
Anyone have an explanation for what happened?

It bothered me today that I heard the LA media say they felt better about this loss because cosmetically it was prettier than the way the Rams have lost in the past.
Yesterday I was just pissed at the run defense and Wade’s reluctance to adding an extra man in the box sooner and the play of Olgtree specifically and the safeties more broadly. I felt Sean had been out coached by his mentor and the Skins essentially abandoned the pass game and ran the ball down the Rams throat. I was pissed with the panalties because they hurt. Woods had a horrific series…just awful and it cost this team badly yesterday. That can’t happen. Jared closed the game with an egregious int which can never be thrown. EVER. Hopefully the kid recovers from that because he had played solidly up to that point and contributed greatly to the Rams getting back in the game.
Here is what I think after watching again
The Rams cannot turn it over like that and expect to beat a team like the Skins if they arent getting TOs in return. Jared Goff was ok… he competed well. Composed himself well on the 69 yard pass to Everett. Clearly that play is an example of him improvising when the original play broke down. He also did well when the Skins brought heat by getting the ball to Gurley in the screen game. The Rams might have something there…they are working the kinks out on that thing (screen game).
After the game I had this feeling that Sean didn’t run the ball enough and feed Gurley who had his best game by far in a long long time. I am even more convinced now. It sounds strange saying it because a lot of us have been critical of Gurley. However, a coach has to have a feel for the game and go with the hot hand. I think the Rams could have really run the ball down the Skins throats too. The FG drive getting the Rams to 10 was a fantastic drive featuring Gurley. The TD drive in the 3rd also obviously… The Gurley TD in the 3rd was spectacular effort. Loved that.
The Rams Oline I thought played well… best run blocking we have seen a quite a while. Lets hope its a trend. They also appeared to be really good in pass blocking and when Jared did get heat he was able slide and move consistently. We must get the ball to Sammy Watkins… Josh Norman aint all that. PERIOD
The Rams defense will come back from that poor performance. I would be stunned if this defense doesn’t come out hot and mad Thursday. Wade was making the kinds of faces that I haven’t seen since he was the head coach of the Cowboys earlier this decade.
The Rams were sloppy yesterday, got out coached, and run over at times physically … yet there they were. The offense really did show flashes of what they can be… its going to take time though. More than this year IMO
This a young QB, with a rookie HC, and a whole bunch of young players offensively who don’t know what they are doing yet. The middle of their defense is obviously flawed physically. But there are clearly some positives to focus on from yesterday
If the Rams can fix the goofy stuff this team can likely contend for a playoff spot next year. It is clear to me though that Jared needs a year just get his feet under him….
I’m also not sure they will be able to keep Watkins. Oh TA… smh hes running out of time. They gave him some touches but he failed to even stress the defense. TA must just be awful in that slot. I just can’t understand why its so hard to get him in space
I bet Sean is kicking himself over yesterday I hope Wade is helping him to move on. Can’t dwell on Washington
I started this post by saying I was annoyed that people seemed to be ok with a pretty loss but the truth is there were some things that were obviously good about yesterday
I am hopeful… just disappointed that its going to take another year.
September 19, 2017 at 10:31 am #74551nittany ramModeratorI always like speed kills’ posts and agree with a lot of what he says above but I’m not necessarily convinced it will take another year for this team to contend for a wildcard. Teams can grow up a lot over the course of the season if the talent is there.

I think the Rams may have a better shot at the division than a wild card.
The NFC West is down this year, and I think the division is up for grabs.
Meanwhile, I don’t think a wild card team is likely from the West. Obviously, it’s too early to say anything with much confidence, but that’s what I think.
The Rams need to take care of the games within the division.
September 20, 2017 at 11:03 am #74590SunTzu_vs_CamusParticipantI was watching with Alyo and we were talking about feeling so …odd…(from the weird Ref delays to Watkins running 3yds on 3rd & 5, etc)….over the way the game was starting and into the 3rd Qtr. I think what we saw on defense was lotsa rust & just the fact that Quinn, Barron, AD, etc had not played much together in the PS…and there looked to be real confusion on defense at times.
The offense just seemed off sans a few big plays(Everett, Kupps lunging catch at the 1yd line…and TG playing superbly in the passing game, etc). Everything just seemed off. I really think McVay & Wade were schemed against very well along with bad plays by some of our players. What the heck was up with Woods that last drive??? LOL Drops/penalties all by his lonesome!! Anyway, I expect some days will be like that. Pats had one of those days Week 1, btw. Sometimes yer the windshield…sometimes yer the bug! 😉
notes & things I think I think…..
***I think we need to defer if we win the toss. The offense & Goff are still new and getting rythym in this offense and I felt last qweek and this week there was jitters and a lack of sureness for the 1st few drives.***Odd playcalling too sometimes…especially when we were at the 2yd line and were in shotgun with TG at Goff’s left…I wigged out and screamed get under center and use dble TEs and run it or PA out of it….they called TO..and did just that to my great relief.
** With all that went wrong…it was still a game within reach in a way that was non-existent from a decade before. We have an OFFENSE now. They’re young, but we have talent and they just need reps to settle down. But the game WAS entertaining and not a 10-7 type defensive struggle that we have been used to in the past.
*** Watkins needs to be thrown to more and they need to run level routes…and push that intermediate 15yd Dig route a bit more. imo….that will open up the running game & short passes, the deeper stuff(comebacks & deep outs, etc) and get us more explosives. Again, the offense & defense just seemed a tad lost for the first half….and the runs were what gave Wash the win. They ran on us which opened up the passing game when they wanted it.
I’m just sayin I think McVay and our defense are still getting their sea legs in these schemes.
