Fisher said initial asking price for Barksdale was a little surprising but that has settled some and now “it makes sense to get Joe back.”

    Interesting.

Well it’s all interesting. (Meaning all the wag-tweets were interesting)

But that one was particularly noteworthy.

Williams arrives, and after building the defense for 2 years, he changes some of their plans.

    He wants his kinda guys.

If Ayers can start at WLB then what they will have, I guess, is Ayers on a certain percentage of the plays and Barron as the Big Nickel on certain percentage of the plays.

If you look up stats on the Rams run defense, interestingly, they were not vulnerable (as a rule) in the middle. It was the outside. Particularly to the weakside (the defensive right). To me that says “linebackers.”

I hope I’m wrong, but it just seems to me he is stockpiling guys that can blitz. I hope I’m wrong.

One more quick housecleaning item: Fisher said CB E.J. Gaines is fully recovered from late-season concussion. Will compete for outside job.

Jeff Fisher on trading to bring back Case Keenum “He was available and we wanted him back.”

Jeff Fisher on Case Keenum, who’ll compete with Austin Davis behind Nick Foles: “We really like Case.”

Fisher says it “would not be inconceivable” for the Rams to draft a DE at 10th pick

I believe him. They just might do this.

They have a track record of trying to transform really good units into transcendently elite forces. And they have subordinated team weaknesses to do so. I think they really believe that 1 elite unit + 1 mediocre unit > 2 pretty good units. I see that in their decisions.

Hope I’m wrong. This team has other needs much greater than more studly DEs.

By virtue of the absurd ...

I believe in that theory, but in this case the DEs are about as good as they can get. One more won’t really improve it, especially in this years class where most of the pass rushers are OLBs in a 3-4. Besides, I rate a good offensive line over a good defensive line. Fisher likes to play mind games, so I never put much stock in most of what he says.

Getting Barksdale back would be great. This would give them some flexibility with that first pick.

I expect the Rams will sign Barksdale, then draft a couple offensive lineman, then after the draft maybe add some veteran help.

Just to make things clear, I am drafting *Amari Cooper then La’el Collins at 10, if they are gone, I will try to trade down. That is just me though. 😉

I’d be good with Cooper, Waynes, or an edge rusher. After that I’d be hoping for a trade down.

There’s also part of me that is intrigued with the idea of taking Gurley. Of course, that would be contingent on there being some decent run blocking.
