Noam on Al Jazeera:https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2020/04/noam-chomsky-coronavirus-pandemic-prevented-200403113823259.html?fbclid=IwAR0zYVNIvnX8OIexerp1sMLGw_POSS7E6KXgabKf5nyRLgmPSNUcGgznJgQ“The coronavirus crisis could have been prevented because there was enough information available to the world, according to Noam Chomsky…
……
….Describing the US president as a “sociopathic buffoon“, Chomsky said while the coronavirus was serious, “it’s worth recalling that there is a much greater horror approaching. We are racing to the edge of disaster, far worse than anything that’s happened in human history.“Donald Trump and his minions are in the lead in racing to the abyss. In fact there are two immense threats that we’re facing – one is the growing threat of nuclear war … and the other of course is the growing threat of global warming.”
While the coronavirus can have “terrifying consequences, there will be recovery”, said Chomsky, but regarding the other threats, “there won’t be recovery, it’s finished”.
He also blasted Trump for continuing punishing sanctions on Iran, a country which is struggling to contain the virus with more than 3,000 deaths, as a way to make people suffer bitterly.
“When the US imposes devastating sanctions – it’s the only country that can do that, everyone has to follow … the master. Or else they are kicked out the financial system,” said Chomsky….”

ModeratorA single person with COVID-19 may be more likely to infect up to 5 or 6 other people, rather than 2 or 3, suggests a new study of Chinese data from the CDC. It’s not clear if this higher number applies only to the cases in China or if it will be similar in other countries.
If the higher number does remain true elsewhere, it means that more people in a population need to be immune from the disease—either from having already had it or from a vaccine—to stop it from circulating.
The new study, published in the Emerging Infectious Diseases journal, shifts the R0 for COVID-19 from about 2.2 to about 5.7. R0 is pronounced “R naught.” It’s a mathematical term that indicates how contagious an infectious disease is. R0 tells you the average number of people who will catch a disease from one contagious person. With the lower number, only 55% of a population needs to be immune from COVID-19 to stop its spread through herd immunity. Herd immunity refers to enough of a population being immune to a disease that the disease cannot travel through it.
But if more people get infected from a single person with COVID-19, then more people need to be protected from the disease to stop it from continuing to spread. With an R0 of 5.7, approximately 82% of the population needs to be immune to reach herd immunity and stop the disease from spreading easily through the population, the researchers concluded.

A friend of mine has both parents that have tested positive. Paraphrasing from his Facebook and a few texts I had with him.
-we’ve all heard about the loss of appetite and smell. As a result both parents slowed their eating.
-that messed with their blood sugar, potassium, sodium and other levels
-the problem is COVID-19 seems to then make it tough for the doctors/nurses to dial things back in. Under normal conditions they can adjust, but Coronavirus is throwing things for a loop when trying to get things like blood sugar right. Experienced medical professionals with decades of experience are now having problems getting patients back to correct ranges.
-then the cascade effect hits as heart attacks, strokes and other issues hit as a result of their blood numbers being off.
His dad had a stroke yesterday and his mom might have this morning.
