My early takes.
Rams offseason? Win. Big win, actually.
New OC & DC seem to fit perfectly and.. well.. I don’t know of Bonemego is good.. but it doesn’t look like Fassel is good anymore, so, I’m calling that a push, for now.
Staley has had two games under 20 points and had fantastic second half performances. Need to generate more outside pass rush, and I hope Lewis’ return in a couple of weeks will help some with that.
O’Connell is OC in title only… but… his addition seems to be having a positive impact on McVay and Goff. Really like what I’m seeing on that side of the ball.
McVay? Well.. people who were ready to bury the Rams this year and redefine Sean as some kind of flash-in-the-pan are in for disappointment. He showed decisive leadership this offseason in his staff restructuring, and this team looks well coached and professional. It’s a real organization, folks.
Snead? Cutting bait on Cooks and Gurley was the wise thing to do. We see now with Kupp, Ramsey and Woods signed what getting rid of C & G now meant for the Rams future. DECISIVE. Ramsey’s worth 2 first rounders.. let’s just end any talk about overpaying. You get the chance at guys that do to an opposing offense what he does.. you get him.
The Rams are drafting very well… even without first round picks.
Sunday… Van Jefferson, Henderson, Kiser, Fuller all had significant contributions. Akers looks like a pro and had some bad luck falling on the ball with all of his weight and another player.
David Edwards stepped up.. after Joe Noteboom was having a solid game.
Oh.. we need to break some Rams fans of the “looking for busts” habit with our young players. Henderson? Nope.. not a bust. Do we want to run him 20 times a game? I doubt it. Will be effing awesome when he and Akers are a regular tandem (knock off the “don’t spend good draft picks on RBs.. plenty of good organizations do). Some people are going to be asking.. “what’s wrong with Rapp???” because Fuller has passed him. Open your eyes, folks.. 2 things happening.. One? Fuller is one of the biggest steals in the draft. I honestly did not expect anything from him.. seemed like a special teams guy. 100% wrong. Smart and plays much faster than his timed speed. Two? He’s a much more natural fit alongside Johnson, imo. Rapp will be free to be the underneath missile that he is in nickel and dime and big nickel packages. He’ll also replace JJ next year at SS.
More on Snead… acquiring players in a variety of different ways.. Kenny Young (he’s nothing special, but is a solid pro), Darious Williams and Troy Hill… Austin Blythe.. Austin Corbett… He’s really.. really done a bang up job.
Thought on ILBs.. look.. neither guy is Littleton.. but Kiser and Young are both more physical in the run game. When looking at *value* at the ILB position? Right now, the Rams are in fantastic shape, imo. Kiser hits.. so does young. Kiser looked very strong this week.
OLBs.. Floyd is solid and does some things that just don’t show up in the box score.. he gets the job done. I think he’ll end up with 8-10 sacks and have a solid season. Opposite him.. not much going on. We need to hope Lewis comes back and just his raw size, speed, strength create some havoc.
DARIOUS WILLIAMS. I’ve been on the D Williams train since last preseason. Kid is a player. Just a guy who has a knack for making plays on the ball.. as well as being a burner. So excited about him.
Goff… he’s what we know he is. A really good to excellent QB when things are going right around him. Not as good when they’re not. He looks better this year, for sure… I don’t think he had even one ball close to being a pick today.. and his one int last week was bullshit. Really nice to see him thrive again.
Higbee.. anyone who thought the explosion he had last year was a fluke wasn’t paying attention. He’s a top 5 TE.
Oline is night and day better than last year… and they have some depth. Edwards came in Sunday and we didn’t see any drop off. Corbett and Blythe are both guys, imo, that are still growing at their current positions. Corbett’s the most natural guard, physically, on the team, and is going to be a stud, imo. Havenstein being healthy makes a big difference. Noteboom wasn’t a mistake last year.. but I think they missed on Kelly.
Oh and Aaron Donald is good at football.

September 21, 2020 at 6:26 pm #121484wvParticipantWell, as I’ve said the last gazillion years, I believe in the 4 game rule.
4 Games before I draw any major conclusions.
The Buffalo game will tell us a lot, obviously.
There were definitely things to be concerned about in that Philly game. 24-19 with ten minutes left. Eagles were bullying that new defense pretty-good.
Woods, Kupp, VJ and Higbee are fun to watch.
I’ve read a poster here and there compare this Offense to the Gurley offense. In my view there’s no comparison. What Gurley could do before the knee went bad, was special. They have plenty of fine weapons now, but they have nothing comparable to a healthy Gurley.

vGurley had the after burners. I rate Faulk, Jackson, Dickerson better than Gurley. Gurley had the extraordinary speed, he did not have the running ability those guys had. imo

Yes, but Goff looks better. He looks like a smart vet now compared to the young guy capable of making some beautiful throws.
That could make a huge difference for 2020 vs 2018.
I’m looking forward to seeing how this offense fares against a good defense this Sunday–The Bills were top 5 last year.
September 21, 2020 at 10:52 pm #121504ZooeyModeratorGurley would have joined the ranks of great Rams RB is he hadn’t come into the league with a bad knee that got worse. Gurley was a GD good football player, and I’m glad he was with the Rams, but his knees just undermined his career, and that’s the story. It’s too bad. He had the skills, the brains, the determination. He did not have knees that could get him past the quarter post. End of story.
I like Goff. He is everything I thought he would be. My one thing with him is that I had hoped he would imprtove under pressure, and I don’t see signs that he has figured that out yet. He has most everything else. But a team that gets pressure on him diminishes his game significantly.

he needed four more great seasons to be mentioned in the same sentence as faulk.
two more great seasons, and he’s in eric dickerson territory.
four more above average seasons, and he’s comparable to jackson.
as it is he only had two great seasons and two decent seasons.
i loved watching gurley when he was on. almost as much as faulk.
