from PFF Rankings: Top 25 cornerbacks through Week 17
https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-pff-rankings-top-25-cornerbacks-through-week-17
19. Nickell Robey-Coleman, Los Angeles Rams
Nickell Robey-Coleman continues to solidify himself as one of the league’s best slot cornerbacks. He accelerates with quick closing speed after showing patience in press man-to-man coverage, and he is good enough to stick with receivers at the top of their routes.
As a seven-year veteran who anchors the middle between fellow corners Jalen Ramsey and Troy Hill, Robey-Coleman allowed just an 80.1 passer rating and 0.63 yards per slot coverage snap through Week 17, ranking 13th and sixth, respectively, among qualifying slot cornerbacks in 2019. The Rams finished with the 10th-best coverage (83.9) in the league this year, and Robey-Coleman will continue to play a significant role in any future success.
20. Troy Hill, Los Angeles Rams
As an undrafted player in 2015, Troy Hill landed in Wade Phillips’ defense and become one of the top-performing corners in the league. Hill has allowed the fewest receptions (23) of any cornerback with a minimum of 300 coverage snaps, and he is one of only three qualifying corners to surrender a completion percentage under 50.0% after he allowed only 45.1% of his targets to be caught during the regular season. Hill was moved into a starting role after the Rams moved on from Aqib Talib and Marcus Peters, but he has rewarded the move by developing into a primetime presence in the Rams’ promising secondary.

January 5, 2020 at 4:59 pm #110122CalParticipantI believe the Rams have an option on Robey-Coleman’s contract and could save 4.5 million by cutting him. I’d like to see the Rams decline the option.
Releasing Weddle and Havenstein and declining Coleman’s option would leave the Rams with 35 million in cap space. They could probably keep Littleton and Fowler with that amount of cap space.
Wade loves a strong secondary but pass rushers are also necessary in Wade’s defense. I can’t imagine that Fowler will NOT be a Ram next year.

It’s a better cap situation than that.
* They carry over nearly 8 M from 2019 into the 2020 cap. So they have more space than is presently indicated.
* They could without any pain cut both Weddle and Hav, which would give them another 5.9 M
* They could convert Goff’s roster bonus into a signing bonus, which would make it 4.2 M hit for 2020 instead of 21 M, saving them 16.8 in cap space this year.
If all that happened, they would have around 57.9 M in cap space.

I’d keep an eye out on Joe Barry as a potential replacement for Phillips as defensive coordinator, if he doesn’t end up in the role at USC. There will also be one or two other staff tweaks, including one on offense that could raise some eyebrows.January 6, 2020 at 5:10 pm #110162znModeratorRich Hammond@Rich_Hammond
This staff could look very different in the fall. In fairness to McVay, the things he needed as a 30-year-old rookie coach are different than things he needs now. Staffs evolve, and this is going to be a fascinating offseason.January 6, 2020 at 7:19 pm #110167znModeratorIn the 1990 divisional round playoff game against the New York Giants, Jim Everett capitalizes off of a Michael Stewart interception, passing to Flipper Anderson for the go-ahead touchdown! pic.twitter.com/MktXfqtDx6

Michael Brockers was stout against the run this year, improving his Rush Defense grade by +14.3 points from 2018!Brockers posted the 5th-Highest Run Stop % among DIs (min. 250 run plays) and earned the 7th-Highest Rush Defense grade among DIs (min. 250 total plays)

Non-tape watchers say Big Brock isn’t good anymore, but don’t realize he was a key cog to the run defense being one of the better units in the league.Low-key could be quite a big loss.

John Fassel’s departure would be consistent with what I heard yesterday, in terms of Sean McVay looking to reshape his staff in line with his needs now as a head coach, as opposed to 2017. Understandable, but very big swings.January 7, 2020 at 11:58 pm #110200znModeratorVincent Bonsignore@VinnyBonsignore
So much of the #Rams situation moving forward is about how they will utilize Todd Gurley/how comfortable they are with his 16-game viability/usage. You can’t ask Sean McVay to coach around a Todd Gurley-lite again. -
