What happened with (former offensive line coach) Aaron Kromer?

    Jourdan Rodrigue@JourdanRodrigue
Like most situations that happen behind closed doors, the decision to part ways with Kromer carried some nuance. While a team spokesman characterized the breakup as “mutual,” my understanding is that it didn’t start out that way. The sense I got from team sources was that it was time to split the father-son dynamic on the staff (Kromer’s son, Zak, is an offensive assistant for the Rams). This may have been in part due to McVay wanting a bit of a change in staff dynamic, and in part due to the prospect of more internal growth opportunity for Zak Kromer, who remains on staff.

The conversation that led to the mutual parting was described to me as “not contentious in any way,” and I’ll note I’d expect Kromer to easily find a job considering his experience if he wants to keep coaching.

seven coaches leaving seems like quite a few. Might some of it be on Sean?

    Jourdan Rodrigue@JourdanRodrigue
I think it’s a couple of things at the same time: Successful teams draw interest from outsiders who want a piece of that formula in their own buildings, and if the head coach is not promoting internally, or runs out of extra titles and responsibilities for assistant coaches, those coaches can’t be expected to stick around and put their own growth on hold.

Has Austin Blythe played his last snap for the Rams?

    Jourdan Rodrigue@JourdanRodrigue
Blythe is a tough call. The center position, in general, is a priority for the Rams this spring, and McVay just spoke very highly of Blythe, who would also be a cap-reasonable extension option. But Blythe was also a Kromer guy. With coaching changes come some personnel changes. Would that include at center?

Additionally, I wouldn’t rule out the Rams looking into a few free agency options here, and I certainly believe they could and should draft along the offensive line at multiple pick points in this year’s draft

I believe INTs are a relative term… do you throw INTs but still win?? Do you throw INTs yet make more plays than mistakes? Do those INTs put fear in mind of defense or are they just bad decisions?? INTs, for me, are not a good/bad stat… they simply add context to bigger story

[Green Bay] Coach Matt LaFleur has mentioned “communication” and “communicator” multiple times when talking about new defensive coordinator Joe Barry.

He also expects Barry to implement the Rams’ scheme that Brandon Staley ran last year, calling it “one of the more difficult schemes to scheme against as we prepared for that (playoff) game.” He also called the scheme “multiple enough” to adapt to the Packers’ personnel.

    Jourdan Rodrigue@JourdanRodrigue
coaches now want to run this system because it is built to counter added WR sets that are increasing every year/limit explosive passing game in increased passing league. If you also have a guy like Jalen Ramsey/Jaire Alexander, that’s when sh— really gets exciting.

Older version of it beat McVay, an adjusted version of it beat McVay in the first week of training camp, and that was the reason he wanted it on his side. Now other teams will take pieces of it and tweak in accordance w their personnel/opponents. Really fascinating cycle.

For anyone who cares, you will routinely be lied to over the next few weeks by reporters who pass along inflated or otherwise false numbers in order to stay in the good graces of #sources.

As the “all eyes on Sean McVay” narrative plays itself out, it will be important to monitor McVay’s ability to delegate.

The best coaches (Reid, Belichick) have a ton of trust in their staff. The O’Connell hire was the first baby step. This year, it’s a brand new challenge.
