Rams GM Les Snead, asked repeatedly if there’s a scenario where Jared Goff wouldn’t be on the roster in 2021, declines to provide a yes/no answer, and references Aaron Rodgers’ recent quote about the future being a beautiful mystery.Omar Ruiz@OmarDRuiz
“Jared Goff is a Ram at this moment,” Rams GM Les Snead says, while adding it’s too early to get into specifics to say whether there’s a scenario where Jared Goff would not be apart of the Rams roster next season.Jourdan Rodrigue@JourdanRodrigue
Les Snead says that both vacancies in the personnel department from Brad Holmes, Ray Agnew departure to Detroit will be filled internally, and that he has spoken to Ray Farmer (who is in a consulting role with the Rams) about possibly moving into a more full-time role.Les Snead says that Andrew Whitworth has mentioned to the staff that he plans to “be back”, but that the entire process is still something he is thinking about. Left unsaid was that the team would also weigh in here, and it sounds as if Whit has been clear about where he stands.
Les Snead says it’s too early to really get into the deeper ways in which the Rams will “tweak their model” including at QB this offseason. Non-specific on Goff’s future when pressed, speaks fairly of the ups and downs of his year and calls the future “a beautiful mystery.”
So, similar tracking of what McVay also did in terms of not flat-out committing to Goff. This was expected as the two are on the same page in terms of “we have to evaluate everything” messaging.

GM Les Snead on roster evaluation:“We want to be a better offense, that includes Jared.” Adding, “It is way too early to get into specifics. Sean [McVay] definitely wants to make sure we get back to being more explosive, scoring more points, not turning the ball over as much.”
Jourdan Rodrigue@JourdanRodrigue
And, “He’s a Ram right now. He’s No. 2 in wins since he & Sean have partnered together. That’s been a heck of a partnership. What I do think is the REAL thing that should come out of this is, ‘hey, we want to be a better offense, and that includes Jared.’”Lindsey Thiry@LindseyThiry
Rams GM Les Snead says they want to keep the Brandon Staley defense that stemmed from Vic Fangio and that Raheem Morris will learn it, while also having the ability to mix in some of his own style.January 26, 2021 at 2:59 pm #127227canadaramParticipantInteresting that neither Snead nor McVay will commit to Goff at this point. I am perhaps the least knowledgeable person on the planet when it comes to understanding the cap, but it seems nearly impossible to me that the Rams and Goff part ways due to the salary cap and his big contract. Am I wrong about this?
I thought Goff looked shaky at times this year, but I haven’t started to think that the Rams should move on yet. How likely is it that Goff isn’t a Ram next year? Seems bizarre to even ask that question.
January 26, 2021 at 3:26 pm #127228ZooeyModeratorI find this strange. Either they are playing head games with Goff…which only has downside, imo…or they mean it. In which case…what are their options?
And…I understand wanting a better QB, but realistically, that isn’t possible. It seems strange that they wouldn’t be saying, “Jared knows where he needs to improve, and we’re making offseason plans, etc.”
This is different messaging from saying, “Never say ‘never.'” This implies they are serious about all options, but even if they are, I don’t see the upside in announcing that.

January 26, 2021 at 3:33 pm #127230HramParticipantThis is unexpected to me. Is it possible they are actually considering moving on from Goff this off-season?
I guess they either swap QBs with someone, can’t think who, or trade him to a QB needy team at the top of the draft and start over. Regardless, I thought the accelerated cap hit made that impossible.
January 26, 2021 at 3:43 pm #127231ZooeyModeratorLooks like Watson, Stafford, and Rodgers are on the market.
I doubt GB is looking for a Goff right now since they drafted somebody for the future, and Goff is not a Holdover type of QB with his salary and age. Anybody interested in Goff goes for him for the long haul, and GB isn’t that team right now.
I’m sure the Rams would love Watson. I’m not sure that is mutual, and I’m not sure that matters. But he would be expensive.
Then there’s Stafford. I haven’t seen Stafford enough to have an opinion on him, and I don’t know what he would cost.
Or they make Goff part of a trade up and draft somebody deal, but that’s seems prohibitively expensive AND strategically bad because the time to push for the Super Bowl is right now, not in two or three years from now.
January 26, 2021 at 7:31 pm #127233InvaderRamModeratori think it’d be a mistake.
unless they can get someone like watson. which will never happen. you stick with goff. and try to upgrade the offensive line. try to add some speed at wr. keep developing the running backs.
unless something happened with goff behind the scenes. do snead and mcvay question goff’s commitment somehow? i haven’t heard anything like that.

I agree completely.
Which leads back to… what are they playing with this non-committal crap?
January 26, 2021 at 11:00 pm #127237InvaderRamModeratorI agree completely.

yeah. i have no idea what’s going on there. no idea.
either mcvay and snead are about to screw it up royally. or mcvay just sees something fundamentally flawed about goff’s game. or this is some oddball way of motivating goff.
but this non-committal vagueness is weird. i don’t think this is mcvay though. i think this is something drummed up by snead. snead is the one who is all into reading about cognitive psychology. there’s definitely a reason the both of them are choosing to go this route. i just have no idea what that reason is. but it’s definitely calculated.

Seattle is planning to hire Rams’ passing game coordinator Shane Waldron for its offensive coordinator job, per source. Waldron will take over for Brian Schottenheimer.Rams losing Waldron, Brad Holmes, Ray Agnew, Joe Barry and Aubrey Pleasant.
Lindsey Thiry@LindseyThiry
Will be very interested to see how Shane Waldron does as an offensive coordinator. He was the Rams passing game coordinator in 2018 and added QB coach to title in 2019, but in 2020 Sean McVay hired Kevin O’Connell to be offensive coordinator and defacto QB coach.Vincent Bonsignore@VinnyBonsignore
Also Liam Coen is new offensive coordinator at Kentucky. And over the years under Sean McVay, Greg Olson has gone from @Rams QB coach to @Raiders OC & Matthew LaFleur went from Rams OC to @Titans OC to @packers
HC and Zac Taylor went from Rams WR coach/QB coach to @Bengals HC.January 27, 2021 at 2:57 am #127242znModeratorClash Of The Horns@RamfamPodcaster

LA Rams assistant offensive line coach Andy Dickerson is heading to Seattle along with new Seahawks offensive coordinator Shane Waldron. Dickerson will be the Seahawks’ run-game coordinator. @AroundTheNFL @nflnetworkRich Hammond@Rich_Hammond

To the Rams organization !! Thank you for 23 awesome years ! I won a super bowl as a player and 2 NFC championship as an employee . But the thing I will miss the most is the people and the relationships . Maybe, if they’re fortunate, the Rams can find a QB who has won an NFC championship game!Joe Curley@vcsjoecurley
How about who’s won one on the road, like in a really difficult indoor building.Honestly, I’m more concerned at the about face after four years of rock solid commit to 16 than anything else. Jared didn’t undergo a metamorphosis. He’s been who he is for years. What has changed? Because it’s not the quarterback.
