    “The tight ends, we’ve got all types of talent in the room. Just with the Rams offense and the versatility that it allows to us as an offense to play with at tight end, there’s really everything for us to do. So, whatever the play is or personnel, they’re going to find something for a tight end to do that is just an advantage, having one or two or three on the field. So, everybody’s got their own talents, but when it all comes down to it, we’ve all got to have the same good technique and just discipline when it comes to blocking, catching, just being an all-around dual-threat athlete.”

    Jared Goff and Sean McVay took the NFL by storm in 2018, producing the third-most-efficient offense in terms of EPA per play en route to a Super Bowl berth. Unfortunately for them, that didn’t carry on into 2019, as the offense took a step back from top to bottom and dipped to 18th in EPA per play.

    The offensive line played a large part in that regression. As a whole, the unit went from the highest-graded in the NFL in 2018 down to the second-worst-graded in 2019. Another key reason was the increasingly volatile play from Goff. The former No. 1 overall pick can produce at a top-10 level in any given year; he just needs help from the playcalling and supporting cast.

    This receiving unit is a good one. It returns Tyler Higbee and Gerald Everett — the third- and eighth-highest-graded receiving tight ends from the 2019 season, respectively — as well as wide receivers Robert Woods and Cooper Kupp.

    Woods has found his home with the Rams, as he has earned the 11th-best receiving grade at the position since joining the team in 2017. At the same time, Kupp has had a strong career thus far, producing a top-25 receiving grade in all three of his years in the NFL. While they have lost Brandin Cooks, the Rams add Van Jefferson, who is reportedly lighting up training camp. Whether or not he can handle physical defensive backs is our concern, so that’s something to monitor in his rookie year.[

    This might just be a “wow I’m new” thing but seeing the long snapper work the hit sled with the inside linebackers is a delightful surprise I didn’t know I needed today

    Don’t want to read too much into something as innocent as drill order but Polite is repping at OLB4, right after Obo. (Lewis would normally rep at OLB 3, 4 or 5 as I believe I recall).

    Rams HC Sean McVay on QB Jared Goff’s training camp so far:

    “I think the last week and a half, he’s really had his best days.”

    McVay said he’s been pleased with Goff’s decision-making, ownership and command of offense. Goff is playing faster and things are slowing down for him

    Neat insight from Hard Knocks, showing what appeared to be a glimpse inside the Rams’ leadership council meeting that took place before last Thursday’s practice and what went into the decision for that practice to go on as scheduled.

    Also got a glimpse of RBs coach Thomas Brown speaking to his group on the importance of holding institutions accountable when dismantling racism.

    Rams rookie TE Brycen Hopkins says biggest adjustment from college to NFL is attention to detail.

    “The attention to detail, for everybody, has to be on par with all the 10 other players on the team, if you’re wanting to succeed as best as you can as a defense or an offense.”

    Hopkins: “So, whether it’s the depth on a route, or a hand placement on a blocking, or leverage – attention to detail is definitely something that I have been having to put a lot of emphasis on and just trying to get to the best place I can be.”

    You know it’s a sick catch when you get audible appreciation from the DBs on the sideline…Robert Woods so far with the snag of the day across the middle, one hand. Woods also gets appreciation for running hard all the way to the end zone after catches.

    One thing Jared Goff appreciated about working with rookie UDFA quarterback Bryce Perkins through camp was his recall of offensive concepts and how quickly he picked everything up.

    As I understand it, the Rams have gotten a few calls inquiring into the possibility of a Gerald Everett trade. But the Rams met them with a resounding “no” – no current plans to trade the tight end who really showed his potential last year. Everett becomes a UFA in 2021.

    If the Rams can get consistency out of Everett, he probably will be worth more on the field to them than anything they could get in a trade now. But that’s also a substantial “if.

    Thinking aloud. The LA Rams likely did not cut TE Brycen Hopkins out of concern that he would be poached by another NFL team before the Rams could sign him to practice squad.

    Tight ends are in short supply this year.

    I can assure you when Brycen and I spoke in Mobile he said the #Rams loved him and envisioned him and Higbee as a tandem long term. He was my TE1 and many others. The #Rams have a great TE room but Brycen was never going to be cut at all.

    Rams S John Johnson isn’t concerned about not having a contract extension heading into his 4th NFL season. He notes he missed 10 games last year: “I look at this like it’s my third year. I just want to put good games on film and ball out, and the rest will take care of itself.”

    i think we see a lot of 12 personnel this year. i don’t think i’m saying anything earth shattering. but i’m just so excited.

    Yeah, I don’t know if you saw but Rams had offers for Everett and were just not going to trade him.

    This is likely a red shirt year for Hopkins. Either way keeping Everett means they have plans for him.

    The combo of Higbee, Everett, and Mundt can do a lot of different things.

    With these 6 on the field (Jalen Ramsey, Troy Hill, Darious Williams, John Johnson, Taylor Rapp and Terrell Burgess) the Rams could change up SS, FS, CB, slot CB, and LB assignments from play to play. I don’t know how a QB is supposed to read that …

    Malcolm is at his apex. Cam is learning how to be a pro. You see how massive the potential is, tho.

    I think Reynolds and Jefferson will have different jobs. I think Josh will be more situational (deep threat, has good size for RZ) and that will naturally mean Van ends the year with more targets.

    I see Bryce Hopkins mentioned in a tweet above, but I haven’t heard/read much about his performance during camp/scrimmages. Admittedly I haven’t been giving this off-season my usual level of attention. That said, is there any word on Hopkins? I see he’s low on the depth chart, but I expected that.

    The impression I got is that they like Hopkins and he’s just keeping his head down and learning to be an NFL TE. Meanwhile this year TE will be all Higbee, Everett, and Mundt. The expectation is that next year they let Everett walk and Hopkins replaces him.

    Thanks zn. I wondered if I had missed some big news on Hopkins. His athleticism for a TE is well documented but all the Rams offensive rookie talk I’ve seen has been about Akers and Jefferson. Excited to see them play. Barring injury it doesn’t seem like Hopkins will be on the game day roster too often this season, at least not early.
