Feel like it’s conspicuous that a couple of rookies the #Rams were not shy about talking about in terms of roles – Greg Gaines and Darrell Henderson – have had a hard time getting on the field/game day roster. Still early. Still rookies making transition. But conspicuousas Clay Matthews told me, there’s some BIG personalities on the #Rams defense. But there is respect, and that makes it work. Talib/Peterson/Weddle/Johnson/Clay/Donald…you’re talking about some hombres. But they feed off each other
Thing about Weddle, he never lets a moment pass where he isn’t pumping up a teammate or checking in on them in the locker room. He literally screams across the room to dudes shouting them out, lifting them up. Leadership.

How good should the 7 3-0 teams feel about their playoff chances? Under the current playoff format which dates back to 1990… you start 3-0 you make the playoffs 74% of the timeSeptember 23, 2019 at 9:43 am #105530znModeratorLike father, like son 🧡

Pretty wild to think that Jared Goff is only 6 months older than Baker Mayfield.Stu Jackson@StuJRams
What was going through #LARams safety John Johnson III’s mind on the final drive tonight?“Four plays,” he told me. “That was the mindset. One at a time. It got to that fourth-down play – he wanted it, I had to have it. Ballgame.”

In Week 3, @CooperKupp lifts the @RamsNFL offense to victory:12 targets*
11 receptions*
2 touchdowns^
102 yards*New career-high
^Matches career-highPer ESPN research, Kupp is the first @RamsNFL Rams player with more than 10 catches, 100 receiving yards and 2 receiving TD since @BigGame81 in Week 6 of 2003. #LARams #LAvsCLE
Clay Matthew has 4 sacks in 3 games with the @RamsNFL, already exceeding his 2018 total. And he picks up two in Cleveland on a night his father goes into the Ring of Honor. #GameBall
With his first sack of 2019, @AaronDonald97 just became the fastest @RamsNFL player to reach 60 career sacks (81 games), and the fastest defensive tackle to reach 60 in NFL history. Appropriate that Canton is exactly 60 miles away from Cleveland.

I think the Rams defense pressured the Browns into some mistakes. Mayfield did mostly have his way with the quick passing game but the counter to that is what the announcers mentioned all night. He literally did not have one successful play when he was forced to hold the ball for longer than 2 seconds. That’s a credit to the Rams. The secondary dominated in addition to the DL pressuring Mayfield all night. Chubbs did well but….13 points total. Who cares? If we’re gonna look and be concerned about the offense not being right, we should also acknowledge that the D looks near dominant. I’m not gonna just look at what’s going wrong because that’s not balanced.

Despite a few poor throws/decisions by Goff last night one thing I really liked were some subtle moves he made in the pocket to evade free rushers and by an extra second to throwAnother positive is we were 2/3 in the red zone last night with Goff throwing two 3rd down TDs to Kupp
Defense needs to take a bow for last night. The last two years our offense was clearly our stronger unit, it’s flipped this year thus far. The secondary has been elite and the pass rush, while not consistent outside of AD, has cashed in many coverage sacks as a result
Legitimate question: how many throws over 20 air yards have been completed against our defense this year?

McVay 15-3 on the road (16-3 including playoffs). Also 9-0 against AFC, 9-1 including playoffs
He made some headscratching calls tonight. But he got the win, again. Wonder how 15-3 compares with other coaches?

Reminds me a bit of when the old 70’s Steelers kinda morphed from one kinda team to another. They won on defense in the early years, but then changed to more of an offensive team, i thot. And the Pats went from defensive to offensive at one point.
The Rams have kinda gone from offensive to defensive now. Kinda. Defensive teams always seem more ‘solid’ to me, somehow.Thing is though, the Rams defense is relying a lot on Old Mr Weddle. And Old Mr Matthews. I expected those two to be good early. But I’m always expecting them to be in trouble as the games pile up.
Not to mention the whole house of cards thats gonna fall on Goff if/when Old Man Left Tackle starts wearin down.Interesting, formidable team. But its walkin a tight-rope, I think. Maybe every team is, though.

I don’t expect them to wear out.
It’s not like Donald where peak physical effort is the key to their games. They’re playing on smarts and veteran savvy.
Whatever they are now I expect them to be all year.
PLUS it’s not just those 2. The D is better this year for a load of reasons, all of which apply.
* Wade knows how to use Peters now.
* The Talib/Peters combo is working.
* Johnson is one year better than he was and he was already good.
* Fowler had a full off-season with the team.
* Littleton moved to the other ILB spot which he is perfect for.
* No matter who plays NT he is better than Suh was during the regular season last year.
* Brockers is healthy unlike last year.
* Wade has a ton of good DBs–in fact it’s crazy how deep they are–and is going nutz scheming up ways to use them. Listen to analysts praise how brilliantly the Rams used subpackages in the Browns game.Plus Donald.
This D is as good as if not better than the last top Rams D, which was 99. In the end it may just rank with some of the great 70s Ds.

17. Jared Goff, Los Angeles Rams
Despite the 3-0 start for the Rams, it hasn’t been smooth sailing for Goff, who has faced a much higher pressure rate than he did last year, and his decision-making has suffered. He’s tied for the sixth-highest percentage of turnover-worthy plays as there have been far too many passes thrown into the leverage of defenders. Outside of a beautiful, 50-plus-yard throw to Brandin Cooks in Week 2, the big-time throws have been hard to come by for Goff, as he’s ranked just 30th in the league in that department.
September 24, 2019 at 2:28 pm #105616Eternal RamnationParticipantI disagree with Bate and Ruiz.More and more these national writers that don’t actually follow the Rams they write from a fantasy owner standpoint which isn’t relative. Ruiz doesn’t even mention that we are three games into a season in which the entire interior OL is in the first year starting. Higbee and Blythe not playing, Woods Cooks and Gurley all having uncharacteristic drops. The running game was doing next to nothing till the second half adjustment when they ran it up the middle then surprise surprise the passing game opened up. I am not saying that Goff has been perfect but he’s 3-0 including 2 3000 mile road trips against a very tough schedule so to say he’s not executing and it’s all on him,
that’s just over the top sillinous .September 24, 2019 at 5:21 pm #105619nittany ramModeratorI disagree with Bate and Ruiz.More and more these national writers that don’t actually follow the Rams they write from a fantasy owner standpoint which isn’t relative. However, it is true that Goff hasn’t looked comfortable in the pocket since after the Chiefs game. He hasn’t had a great game from start to finish since then. He’s had stretches during games where he looked totally in command, but in almost every game since KC he’s had long stretches where he’s looked lost.
I think there are a lot of mitigating factors (poor protection at times, lack of running game, etc) and I’m not worried yet, but so far this season he looks like he’s regressed. He’s having accuracy issues and seems to be struggling reading defenses. I think opponents have discovered what he doesn’t do well and are taking advantage of it.
But he’s only 6 months older than Baker Mayfield. He’s still very young. He’ll learn. What are weaknesses in his game now will become strengths. I fully expect him to return to the elite level of play we saw against the Vikings and Chiefs.

Well yer just a crazy man. Those old guys are not gonna hold up.
It does have the potential to be a great defense. Tough to compare D’s anymore due to the rules changes and all, but yeah, it could end up being a great one. Then again, they have faced a mediocre version of Cam, and Saints offense without Breeze, and dynamic but inexperienced QB in whats-his-name. And they wont have to face Big Ben, I guess. Bears dont have a good QB, Cincy’s QB is mediocre…Tampa? Winston isnt really scary is he? I guess I wanna see how they do against the good QBs. Russell Wilson, for one. I dunno what other top ten QBs they face.
I’m looking forward to the Bear game, btw. I wanna see if they can improve on that shit-storm of a game they played last time. How’s this OLine gonna hold up against da bears?
