For those curious, the bulk of OTAs work is in position groups. DL with the sled, OL doing footwork, DBs doing ball drills, etc. It’s much more about individual improvement, with some 7 on 7 and 11 on 11 mixed in. Scrimmaging is not the focal point.
Plenty of questions about “how is this person/position looking?” And I understand it. It’s been five months since football and people are info-starved. But it’s OTAs. They’re in shorts. There’s no tackling. WR/DB matchups are the only ones with true competition.

All true. On other hand it is OK/telling to focus on what team is doing conceptually and schematically. It was obvious last year at this time McVay’s offense was just different/more creative than previous regime. This year you can see even more layers.

Asked about next week’s mandatory minicamp, McVay mentions that the Rams are expected to have the entire offense and defense installed, allowing the schedule to “mimic a training camp day.” He called it “finality of your installs.”
McVay was asked about Sean Mannion and the team’s QB depth today: “There’s always an extreme high-level of importance on those backup quarterbacks because you talk about being one play away.”
McVay says hasn’t spoken to Aaron Donald about his plans regarding the upcoming minicamp. No word on when the star DL will report.

Looks like full attendance at Rams OTAs today, other than Aaron Donald. The usual folks are rehabbing/resting.
Justin Lawler still running with the 1s on defense. No changes to first-team groups that I could see. Mark Barron was doing some rehab/conditioning work on the side.

Joyner will almost certainly play this season under the franchise tag. But at some point, a contract needs to get done

Lamarcus Joyner said there haven’t been any contract talks with the Rams. If Joyner doesn’t sign a new deal by July 16, his one-year franchise-tag contract is locked in and he would be on track to become a free agent next March.
Lamarcus Joyner doesn’t seem close to a new contract with Rams but he will be a big part of the defense in 2018
