There’s really no reason to be comfortable with Noteboom as the future LT. He has a lot to prove as an NFL starter. But the coaches see him more than we do in practice

Rams started their “virtual offseason” today. Plan is for four days per week, 90 minutes per day with breaks. Team was able to send out computer tablets to players with playbook stuff, video, etc. Full participation today, Sean McVay said.

    LindseyThiry@LindseyThiry
Sean McVay says he’ll have some guest speakers talk to the Rams during their virtual offseason meetings. Among speakers? Clippers coach Doc Rivers, and he also is targeting Dodgers manager Dave Roberts.

    Stu Jackson@StuJRams
The Rams began their virtual offseason program today. McVay said all 9 weeks will be done this way, with 6 weeks virtual and 3 weeks at facility as best-case scenario.

May 11 is when rookie Rookie Football Development Programs begin.

Sean McVay said coaching staff will be communicating with Rams players to hold them accountable for workouts during virtual offseason program, but won’t be monitoring otherwise because they trust players will be responsible.

According to VinnyB, McVay really wanted Akers and Jefferson. Those were his guys for his offense. Certainly, Snead signed off on them, but I wouldn’t say we can ascertain how Snead drafts based on those 2 picks.

My view is that the 3rd round was more of what Snead is about. Lewis and Burgess were not guys who they expected to get there. Snead even said the first 2 picks went exactly as planned, so I am drawing the inference that the next 2 weren’t in the same vein.

EDIT 5/4/20…this is probably not correct…apparently, Rams get 1 comp pick in round 3 and 1 in round 4

    from https://ramblinfan.com/2020/03/25/la-rams-2021-nfl-draft-picks-and-free-agency-outlook/

The 2021 NFL Draft for the LA Rams will likely resemble this:

Round 1 – No pick (to Jacksonville Jaguars for Jalen Ramsey)
    Round 2 – 1 pick
Round 3 – 3 picks. (original pick plus two comp picks for Fowler Jr/Littleton)
Round 4 – No pick (to Jacksonville Jaguars for Jalen Ramsey)
Round 5 – No pick (to Cleveland Browns for Austin Corbett)
    Round 6 – 1 pick
    Round 7 – 1 pick

Sure we can. We can ascertain that Snead listens to McVay. Thats what i would expect. They discuss, bat-things-around, have vigorous debates, and then if McVay really really wants a player, and Snead agrees its a quality player — McVay gets the player.

Its a Mc-Snead pick. Perfectly reasonable process, too.

I think the dumbest thing on the NFL calendar is the overreaction to draft grades, and the pomposity that goes with it. Everyone with a brain understands them for what they are: A snapshot of right now. They will change. A lot. We all know. If you don’t like them, don’t read.

Akers is not replacing Henderson, who was drafted as a change-of-pace back and remains one.

Now that the draft is done and UDFA are signed, I’ve been thinking about how this offseason is going to hurt late round draft picks. When camp starts, the reps are going to veterans to prepare them for the season. Also, you missed on months of learning the playbook

even for rookies drafted to play now, it’s going to be a tough start. I know Joe Burrow is reading the playbook and that’s a start, but seeing it happen with NFL speed at practice/preseason games will be the best for him. Also, there’s even less practice in the new CBA.

    From that:

[Snead] revealed this bit of info on SiriusXM NFL Radio on Monday, adding that the one trade the Rams did make went smoothly despite the new virtual draft format.

“We made one trade. There was a possibility to trade back in the second round,” Snead said. “We elected to stay, so with our one trade that we made, it was really, really clean and didn’t have a problem at all, so I think that went smooth.”

Rams have been predominantly zone run last couple of years tho, no?

    Matt Waldman@MattWaldman
They were stubbornly so until midyear and then finally adjusted to gap. A lot of Duo used. Adding Akers and having gap-oriented Henderson may be a sign they are going to gap as a heavy part of rotation. If not…those two better learn fast!

The Rams are going to use 2 TEs more in 2020, and will feature Brycen Hopkins in “exotic personnel packages,” too

If you’re wondering why the Rams liked Van Jefferson so much, here’s some background. Les Snead said they kept saying he’s a combination of Kupp and Woods

This especially makes sense considering they likely won’t be able to resign both Kupp and Woods.

There are a number of writers who have done an actual analysis of teams’ drafting successes.

This one looks at the drafts of the last decade (2010 – 2019) that puts the Rams at tied for 6th. https://www.ganggreennation.com/2020/4/11/21217490/who-were-the-best-and-worst-drafting-teams-of-the-decade-in-the-nfl

Here’s one from 2018 that covers draft years 2013 thru 2017 that puts the Rams 4th. https://nypost.com/2018/04/21/giants-jets-cant-crack-top-10-most-successful-teams-at-draft/

This one from 2017 looks at draft years 2012 thru 2016. It puts the Rams 5th. https://www.foxsports.com/nfl/gallery/nfl-draft-teams-picks-draft-records-ranked-2012-present-030117

from 2021 NFL Draft: Compensatory pick projections for every team: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000001112252/article/2021-nfl-draft-compensatory-pick-projections-for-every-team?campaign=Twitter_atn
    Lance Zierlein

    LOS ANGELES RAMS

Projected compensatory picks: One apiece in Rounds 3 and 4.

Key free-agent losses: Dante Fowler Jr. (Falcons), Cory Littleton (Raiders), Greg Zuerlein (Cowboys).
Key free-agent addition: A’Shawn Robinson (Lions).

Comp-pick analysis: For the second year in a row, the Rams will add the highest compensatory pick (a third-rounder), thanks to Fowler’s departure to the Falcons, but this season, they also should grab a fourth-round pick for Littleton, who went from undrafted free agent to coveted linebacker acquisition by the Las Vegas Raiders.

I thought Bobby Evans did a solid job at right tackle in the second half of last season and he absolutely exceeded my expectations. He held his own against some solid pass-rushers, but he also got a little help with the Rams in some bigger packages. Perhaps Evans would take an even bigger step forward in 2020.

I also wouldn’t write off Havenstein, who was great in 2017 and 2018. He slipped in the early part of 2019, but so did every player on that Rams line. I can’t stress that enough.
