The Rams drafted two O-linemen who can play any position but center. I have a feeling Blythe might slide back to center and battle Allen for the job https://t.co/gVwwr2DpuV

RB Darrell Henderson packs a punch with his 5'8, 208-lb frame, gaining nearly 9 yards/touch and scoring 45 TDs with @MemphisFB.@DarrellH8 ranks behind only 2018 1st-Rounders @saquon and @pennyhendrixx over the last two draft classes in our updated Next Gen Stats RB model. pic.twitter.com/5ezQxTNXCA

2019 NFL DRAFT REACHES NEW HEIGHTS AND RECORD NUMBERS – 47.5 MILLION VIEWERS AND 600,000 FANS IN ATTENDANCE YIELDING THE HIGHEST RATED, MOST WATCHED, AND MOST ATTENDED EVERApril 29, 2019 at 1:50 pm #100736znModeratorden-the-coach
I actually think Edwards will get time at LT more than Evans, but Evans can slot in at RG as he was a RT in 2017. IMO, for now Kromer will have Evans & Edwards playing all positions on the Offensive Line besides Center, but longterm Edwards feet are quick because of him being a former QB/TE and so now that he’s healthy, I look for Noteboom to stay at LG with Edwards being at LT and Evans being at RT/RG.
April 29, 2019 at 4:28 pm #100739ZooeyModeratorMultiple people saying Noteboom will likely stay at LG. I don’t understand why. Last year, we were all expecting he was Whitworth’s eventual replacement. Now he’s not?
We shall see.
Some people don’t even like the Edwards pick, and others have him being LT next year? That’s quite a range of expectation.

Last year they didn’t have a possible alternative at LOT. If Edwards comes through, then if you move Noteboom, you have to make 2 shifts–OT and OG–but if Noteboom stays put, you only need to make one.
It’s speculation either way. All that assumes a lot, including that Noteboom even works out (which I expect btw).
In terms of Edwards, there are reasons for the disparity. He played hurt last year (shoulder) and it had an effect on his tape. He says that much himself. Also, he is a twice converted player who has played OL for just 3 years, so he has gaps in his game. He was a high school qb and started college as a TE. Those who like him (including, reportedly, Kromer) point to his innate physical traits and psychological disposition and see a potential left OT there.
Kromer has a long very good history developing OL, but also on top of it, of all the good Rams OL coaches (including Hanifan and Boudreau), he is the only one who also seems to be able to pick players in a draft (both Hanny and Boudreau were famously bad at that). So all that combined fuels optimistic views.
The theory then becomes, in year 1, Evans and Edwards learn all 4 non-center spots, as per the Kromer way of things. Then it splits up. Some of us see Evans as destined for right guard/tackle, and Edwards as destined for left OT.
As I said Edwards has a lot of juicy left OT traits. Bits from his write-ups:
Early quickness in pass sets
Mirror movement needs work, but is fairly natural and fluid
Natural length is terrific
body control for his size is terrific.
Graceful big body
A long torso tackle with good feet and base.
he has started for the past three seasons, protecting the blindside for his starting quarterback Alex Hornibrook, who is left-handed.
Edwards possesses an excellent blend of size, length, power and agility
Has top-tier athleticism for a player at his height
Edwards who seems more than capable of playing either left or right.
long, athletic kid. … Really light on his feet
That all sounds like a left OT.
Plus there’s this:
Violent thanks to explosive first step and force generated in short space, will be reliable to run behind, even on short yardage down and distances.
is a bully and plays chippy when he’s let off the leash
Controlled aggression. Plays with attitude and effort.
Unpleasant disposition in the run game.

April 29, 2019 at 10:22 pm #100762znModeratorOn the Rosen trade:
— Washington lol'd at Keim's 1st-rd price tag.
— When Keim suggested keeping both QBs, Rosen said: "Then I’ll just beat him out."
— Rosen took it in stride: “It’s not like I’m some child soldier in Darfur. I’ve had it pretty good."https://t.co/8TaiQ8RCKk— Robert Klemko (@RobertKlemko) April 29, 2019

April 30, 2019 at 12:06 pm #100784wvParticipant“…On the phone with Rosen, Williams told him it looked like a deal would have to wait another day—if one were coming at all. “I’m fine,” Rosen said on the other end of the line. “It’s not like I’m some child soldier in Darfur. I’ve had it pretty good. I think it’s time I had some legitimate adversity handed to me.”
“I try to put everything into perspective,” Rosen tells The MMQB. “If I’m bummed I’m getting traded by the Arizona Cardinals, I try to think I’m living in an awesome condo in the middle of Scottsdale. I’m on a team, I have food on my table, a good family. Life could be a lot worse, so you count your blessings and try to put good energy out into the world.”
Larry Fitzgerald, the Cardinals’ future Hall of Famer, had given him perspective…”
—————-Intriguing player. Rosen. There’s a lot to like in those paragraphs.
I have no idea how ANY QB could be evaluated on that Cardinal team last year. The entire offense was Katrina-level-bad.

April 30, 2019 at 6:23 pm #100789InvaderRamModeratoron edwards and noteboom.
let me say first that i haven’t watched edwards play. not even a single second. noteboom. i’ve seen him in limited action for the rams.
on top of that i know shit about football as far as evaluating talent and play on the field – particularly oline.
i’m really just going off numbers. but noteboom seems like the better lt prospect. in terms of athleticism. in terms of length.
but kromer does know best so whatever he decides is probably the best decision.
April 30, 2019 at 6:30 pm #100790znModeratorI would say that Edwards is the more athletic, quick footed player, and he’s taller and leaner, which fits a tackle profile. I mean this is a converted QB then TE.
Nothing wrong with Noteboom. And no one is saying he can’t play tackle. But he is shorter (by a bit) and heavier, built along the lines of Saffold. If you were just to stand them next to one another in uniform and full pads and ask, which is the guard and which is the OT, I would think most people would automatically go Edwards is the tackle and NB is the guard.
It’s all speculation at this point, but, saying the Rams have 2 potential tackles and only one of them can play there? Nice problem to have.
April 30, 2019 at 7:56 pm #100794InvaderRamModeratorwell this is where i’m coming from.
edwards
6’6″
33 3/8″ arms
9 3/4″ hands
40 – 5.28 seconds
short shuttle – 4.77 seconds
3-cone – 7.69 secondsnoteboom
6’5″
34 3/8″ arms
9 5/8″ hands
40 – 4.96 seconds
short shuttle – 4.44 seconds
3-cone – 7.65 secondsso height pretty much the same. joe is 1 inch shorter. he’s currently 322 pounds, but he weighed 309 at the combine – 1 pound heavier than david.
but the arms. noteboom’s arms are a full inch longer. the ideal length for a left tackle whereas david’s are about average.
but then you look at speed and agility numbers and noteboom is better in all numbers although their 3-cone times are about equal.
now this says nothing about actual play. and edwards might indeed have the better playing balance and feet. i just don’t know. i haven’t really seen either play much. i’m not even sure i’d be able to evaluate if i did.
but yes. the fact kromer sees both as candidates for the left tackle spot can only be a good thing. whether they can actually achieve that remains to be seen.
April 30, 2019 at 8:07 pm #100795znModeratorbut yes. the fact kromer sees both as candidates for the left tackle spot can only be a good thing.
So. The Edwards/Noteboom wars have begun.

April 30, 2019 at 8:50 pm #100799InvaderRamModeratorof course there’s the argument that arm length doesn’t matter. or at least they need to reach a certain threshold and anything beyond that really doesn’t make a difference.
https://www.profootballfocus.com/news/does-arm-length-affect-ot-play
April 30, 2019 at 8:59 pm #100801InvaderRamModeratorjust to add to that article. the limitations to that article is that it’s only looking at tackles who’ve played a certain percentage of snaps for their team at tackle.
so he’s plotting points for tackles who can at least play in the league. so i think it stands to reason that there would not be a huge difference in play. there’s no control for variables.
i think a better study would be to take 50 tackles and let them play 16 games. then take those same 50 tackles. remove their arms. and then give them longer arms and let them play 16 games against the same teams.
…
ha!
So. The Edwards/Noteboom wars have begun.
yes they have.
and it will be a long and brutal one.
