McVay said Mark Barron, Robert Quinn and Mike Thomas won’t play vs. Dallas. Kayvon Webster a game-time decision. Injured guys also out, obv.August 12, 2017 at 2:47 pm #72349znModeratorTo me it’s not about Goff because this is the first step in a continuing process. If he’s real good, I will want to see more later anyway, and if he struggles, I won’t make too much of it…he will have ups and downs on his way to being a consistent franchise qb. I mean I am interested in how Goff looks but there won’t be any “final judgments” on that for a while.
My thing is Gurley. If Gurley is “right” then a lot of other things fall into place more easily.

i pretty much fall into the same boat. i mean i want to see a good drive. even two. but i won’t make too much of it if it doesn’t happen.
i’m gonna wait until the end of the season to make any real judgments on goff at least.

He doesn’t have to look like Tom Brady. But he has to look decent. I watched some of the Bears game. Trubisky looked fantastic. Looked like he was playing the game forever. I get it. Pre-season. Vanilla defense and all of that. But his poise, his accuracy, his decision making were first rate. And this was his first game.
But I won’t look for perfection. Just show me something, not a complete meltdown or disaster.
So to me, Goff is very important. He will touch the ball on every single play. He HAS to be at least good.
That’s what I’m looking for.
After that–protection. Is the line looking competent? And pleeeeeease no injuries.
Don’t know if I’ll make the chat room tonight. The wife’s home and I’ll probably be away from the computer watching the game upstairs. But I’ll comment on the board from my tablet probably.
Anyway, GO RAMS!!!

PA…Goff came out of Cal much further behind than most drafted qbs.
To this day, not one single qb who has come out of the college Air Raid offense has ever become a consistent starter. This goes back to Couch. The closest have been Foles and Keenum. Though Foles did well in a pro spread under Kelly, with the Rams he had to play a pro system, and as we know, crashed.
The offense Trubisky was in in college was not as far from pro systems as the Cal offense was.
Just off the net, source doesn’t matter:
North Carolina did have Trubisky process routes and go through progressions, which isn’t always the case for college spread offenses. Bears general manager Ryan Pace pointed to Trubisky’s “ability to process and see the whole field,” which is an important to note, seeing as it’s an area in which he may not need as much development as some of the other quarterbacks in this year’s draft class.
Given all that, I would expect Trubisky to be ahead of where Goff was at the same stage.

Well, I sure hope Goff becomes the guy who makes the transition because if he can do it–this young offense is set to do great things. If not, they’d better not waste time on him. They need to know for sure after this year if he can be the guy or not.
