I agree with all these except for the Bucs and G-Men.

For a glorious three hours on Monday night, the St. Louis Rams were decked out in the yellow and royal blue jerseys of the past. The throwbacks were so adored that many called for the Rams to make a permanent switch. That got FTW thinking about which other franchises could move their uniforms forward by looking back. Here are our nine choices. (Note that this isn’t a list of the best throwbacks. The Bears and Redskins have really nice throwbacks, but they also have some of the best regular uniforms in the NFL, so we wouldn’t advocate them to make a change.)
1. San Diego Chargers
The Chargers’ so-called “powder blue” jerseys are actually called Collegiate blue. No matter, these universally loved uniforms are everyone’s favorite NFL throwback. It never ceases to amaze that the Chargers, who break out the alternate unis almost every year, refuse to make the change permanently. Maybe they’re just waiting for the move to Los Angeles?
2. Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles are making a return to midnight green starting in Week 10. That’s a start, but not nearly far enough. Only a change to the beloved kelly green uniforms of yesteryear will rid us of the memory of those black-on-black travesties from Sunday night.
3. St. Louis Rams
The last time St. Louis wore these for a full season, the team won the Super Bowl. (How do you switch unis after winning it all? That’s like giving karma a swift kick to the rear!) To be fair, uniform changes are discussed years in advance, so the Rams couldn’t have fathomed they’d be reigning Super Bowl champions when the uniforms changed in the year 2000. But why change at all? The franchise had used the yellow and blue almost exclusively since 1973. Then, they were replaced by new century gold and millennium blue, colors chosen, in part, because owner Georgia Frontiere was into astrology and liked the names.
4. New England Patriots
For my money, the Pats’ current duds are the ugliest uniforms in the NFL but aren’t regarded as such because they’ve been synonymous with victory. But why not play good and look good too? The Pats throwbacks are lovely, with the proper patriotic colors and the legendary Pat Patriot instead of dorky Flying Elvis. The Pat Patriot logo was created for The Boston Globe in 1960 by cartoonist Phil Bissell, who used a Boston College offensive lineman as inspiration. The Patriots ended up using the logo, with Bissell getting a cool $100 for his creation.
5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Though the Bucs’ creamsicle jerseys are still awesome and easily the best of the throwbacks, they shouldn’t necessarily make a full-time comeback. Bucco Bruce and those orange-sherbert jerseys are good in moderation, like gingerbread-flavored coffees and Jon Gruden. Wear them too much and they’d run the risk of looking tacky.
6. New York Giants
The current Giants’ helmet is a bit of a throwback itself, and a very good one to boot. But there’s something about the word “GIANTS” written on the side of New York’s helmet, brining back memories of Lawrence Taylor, Bill Parcells and Phil Simms, that’s too good to forget.
7. Atlanta Falcons
The only thing wrong with the current Atlanta Falcons uniform is that it could be so, so much better with the addition of the old-school red helmet.
8. Miami Dolphins
This is only the second season for the new Dolphins logo, which is about two seasons too many. The new logo is dreadful. If it’s not more disliked on South Beach than LeBron James, it should be. Who thought it was a good idea to take the classic Dolphins logo and replace it with a faceless, streamlined dolphin representation that looks like the logo for a failed bank. This new dolphin doesn’t even wear a helmet, which is appalling with our increased focus on player safety. Why not just put a plastic six-pack ring on there too?

9. Buffalo Bills
The buffalo on the Bills’ old AFL helmets is just sort of standing there lazily, doing nothing. It’s a perfect metaphor for the past 20 years of Buffalo Bills’ football. But there’s a beautiful simplicity to the red buffalo on the white helmet, even though you’ll find no complaints here about the Bills’ charging buffalo helmet that’s been around since 1974, especially since the team went back to the white helmet in 2011.October 27, 2015 at 4:13 pm #33079nittany ramModeratorI still can’t believe what the Dolphins did to that classic logo. It’s a crime against humanity and should be punishable as such.
