They say (or one study says) that winning teams tend to have about 10 players taking up 60% of their cap.

The cap is supposed to be 200 M in 2020. Which current players fit into the 60% by then, which of course is 120 M.

    I think this is possible.

    Goff 30 M
    Donald 24 M
    Cooks 17 M
    Peters 15 M
    Gurley 12 M

That leaves 22 M. Which is say 3 more players, ranging from 6-8 M and averaging 7 M.

    So that’s 8 players.

Look who it leaves out. Joyner, Brockers, Kupp. (Whitworth is gone by then either way.)

You can have 2 of those 3 excluded players if you don’t sign Donald. But I think Donald is worth any 2 other good players (except Goff). (Cause, qbs are hard to find. Ask the Rams.)

My big question is, do you keep Gurley? Frankly, as much as I like Gurley, I would rather keep Brockers than him, based just on the idea that you can find good RBs and get by just fine with them–you don’t need an elite RB.

If Gurley is as good as Faulk, you keep Gurley.

Otherwise I agree with you that good RBs are easier to find. I believe they can play earlier at a higher level than most positions.

How about we pay Goff 28; Donald 21; cooks 15; Peters 14 and we keep Joyner, Brockers and Kupp. 🙂

Well the 2nd contract number for qbs has already reached 28. When Goff comes up it will be more.

Here’s a little run down on the Vikings cap.

The cap is 177 M. According to the argument I tend to accept, winning teams spend about 60% of their cap on 10 players.

    60% of 177 is 106.2 M

Weirdly that’s almost exactly the amount the Vikes spend on their top 10 contracts: 106.2 M.

That includes Cousins, Rhodes, Barr, Griffen, Reiff, Harrison Smith, Linval Joseph, Richardson, Rudolph, and Thielen.

They spend 27.1 M of it on the DL.

Donald is looking for that $25 million dollar per year payday. He is also looking for $100 million guaranteed.

We don’t know that it’s 25 Jack. In fact I doubt it.

Cooks though is not going to take 15. WR 2nd contracts this year were 17.

I don’t see a situation where they can keep both Donald and Goff and a lot of the other key pieces and at the same time keep all of the following: Joyner, Brockers, Kupp.
