Let me start by saying that I love Tre Mason and freely acknowledge that he is a “better,” more explosive TB than Stacy is. AND, Mason is not just a HR hitter. He is a tough inside runner. I love having him as a feature back.
Now, having said that, I don’t get why we have utterly forgotten Stacy. He is a BETTER inside runner in traffic than Mason is. Mason is good–Stacy is better.
We saw that SUN. Mason couldn’t get past the LOS in the 2nd half. Then Stacy got the ball a couple of times and got the run going again. He is simply BETTER than Mason pounding into stacked defenses.
So, like, where has he been for 6 weeks? Fisher was quoted as saying he wants to get Stacy more carries. OK–what’s stopping him? Why can’t we use Stacy for what he’s good at?
For example, why isn’t he in there threatening the LOS inside the 5? In that infamous series against SD, why wasn’t his threat part of the package? It cost us there as it cost us against SEA a year ago.
I guess one answer is that we have to run Tavon on quadruple reverse gadgets 8 times a game, hoping he can eke out 4 yards and provide some marginal indication that he wasn’t a complete draft bust. IMO, if we rotated Tre and Zack, Stacy would gain more yards and justify more carries than Tavon does and we would be giving the defenses we face a far more serious problem to prepare for.
I just don’t get why we don’t seek value from Zack Stacy, who is proven to be able to churn out tough yards.
And remember–I love Tre Mason and think he’s the better TB.
By virtue of the absurd ...
