A bi-partisan coalition are joining the ACLU to expose the truth – Congress’ Restrict Act (S.686) actually says NOTHING about TikTok. Instead, it’s much more sinister. It allows fascist presidents to put everyday Americans in jail just for looking for ANY KIND of content that their team decides should not be online – with ZERO oversight. They’re calling it Patriot Act 2.0. Imagine what a future president like Trump or DeSantis would do with this power: Would they ban anyone who seeks out information about their crimes? Fine them? Put them in jail? Salon reports it could include up to 20 years in prison and, in some interpretations, up to $1,000,000 in fines… all for reading content just like this tweet you’re reading now. But it gets worse. Your punishment could all be done in secret, through a FISA court. The bill specifically states you would have NO judicial review. That means you could not appeal, or perhaps never even let the public know about your case. If this sounds like fascist nightmare, that’s because it is. To be fair, proponents of the bill say it won’t affect individuals. But there is literally NOTHING IN THE BILL that says that. We’re not stupid. The media is totally dropping the ball on this.
