Yeah… the problem with that is that it ignores a few things.

    1) the DNC is ideologically, structurally and financially incapable of embracing left policies. They dismantled their ground game in the 90s in favor of corporations and donors.

    2) The DNC is on record with thought, word and deed that they would rather embrace very hard right neofascism rather than do anything more than pay lip service to even center left ideas.

    3) the DNC has been complicit in disenfranchising (to the point of election fraud) voters by a number of means including, but not limited to voter roll purging, gerrymandering, and undercutting progressive candidates with a chance of defeating Republican candidates with Center-Right candidates with NO chance of winning… (see: DNC running Amy McGrath, a self-styled Trump Democrat over Charles Booker, a progressive with grassroots support)

    4) #2 needs to be repeated. There has been no fight about Trump’s court appointments. There was no fight to get Obama’s court appointments through.

So… to all of the Cusack’s out there…

I don’t begrudge your take, but it’s fantasy.

If Trump wins, the DNC wins because they can fund-raise the shit out of Roe falling and continue to make millions with hysterical emails.

If Biden wins, the DNC wins as they can say that their center-right neoliberal schtick has a “mandate” and this proves that America want’s what their selling.

I can’t with all that bullshit.

Both parties ensure that there are only two different brands of shit soup on the shelves and they really want to argue over which tastes better based on sales while ignoring their mafia-esque grip on what the store is ALLOWED to sell.

Honestly, American democracy is more and more a sarcastic joke or an oxymoron than a thing.

The thing is, Mack, I agree with every single one of those points. But I still come to the conclusion that in swing-states, leftists should vote for the lesser-monster.

I agree with Angela Davis, Cornell West, and Noam. Trump is just worse on the environment. He just is. Thats enuff for me.

Biden is certainly BAD on the environment, but not as bad as Trump.

I voted Green as per usual, but WV aint a swing-state.

I expect NOTHING from Biden. He will NOT move to left. Not one inch.
I just think an immovable-biden is STILL better than Trump. Not on Imperialism. They are the same on that. But on the environment? Trump is worse.

Well, Bernie Sanders did not get the memo. He apparently believes he will be president.

    Bash on, regardless.

“I was pondering the old conundrum last night about why so many people vote for the GOP, counter to their own interests. And I was thinking that part of it is that those voters, like Trump supporters, are really low information voters, ya know. Nothing new there. But that doesn’t answer the question. They’re low information either way, so how does the GOP get their allegiance?”

Personally, I think that the changing demographics is the engine driving their allegiance. White folks-in the GOP-look at how fast “their country” is changing. Color wise, information technology, gay rights, career changes, women advancements, population increases, etc-“it ain’t what it used to be”. We remember how good things used to be. Computers baffle us-especially when they breakdown-, smart tvs, smart phones, blah blah. Life just seemed to be much simpler and far less stressful. White males especially, 50 plus, yearn for those simple days. Probably due to my age I admit to some of that. I’ve come to hate technology. I tell my wife often when our tv remote breaks down: “I remember when you could walk up to the tv and change the channel with your hand, and I got as much information then as I do today. “. That’s when she gets up and leaves -after throwing the remote at me.

Many voters get that the fundamental GOP argument that government is too big is largely correct.

Consider the recent debate on spending 2 trillion more on stimulus. The only thing preventing that is the GOP. Maybe they are right to stop that and attempt to prevent gov’t from growing bigger and bigger.

If you believe that climate change is an existential threat, how can you spend 40 Billion to make sure that the airline industry doesn’t change even though it needs to shrink? Commercial air travel accounts for approximately 3% of CO2 production in the US. Wouldn’t it be nice to cut that by 2/3 in one easy step?

Banks made 10 Billion in 7 weeks by distributing tax payers’ money to small businesses in the spring. The banks assumed ZERO risk and just skimmed 5% of taxpayer money as they gave out “loans.” Our gov’t would happily do the same thing again and again.

Why is the gov’t sending families who haven’t missed ONE paycheck more and more money? Neither my wife nor I have missed a paycheck or will miss a paycheck, but the gov’t still sent us $3,900 in the spring. And they would love to do the same thing again.

Maybe many GOP voters do get that the system is broken and stupid. Maybe the majority of GOP voters (There are certainly are many who are racist) is not racist and dumb??

The best answer that the left has to this fundamentally broken system comes from Bernie Sanders (as far as I can tell) and looks like this: Let’s spend Billions of dollars to send EVERYone to college!

“Teachers of English and literature have either submitted, or are expected to submit, along with teachers of the more ‘practical’ disciplines, to the doctrine that the purpose of education is the mass production of producers and consumers.” Wendell Berry

OK Mack: tell me this. Just what would you have done when the ONLY weapon available in a Republican controlled Senate is a filibuster-something we no longer have. Ironically, it was the Democrats under the Obama administration that voted to oust the filibuster rule for judicial nominees leaving as an exception the U.S Supreme Court. That one exception was erased when the Republicans took control under Trump. Nevertheless, the Kavanaugh hearing was a good fight notwithstanding the outcome was certain-unless a few Republican senators would see the light.

Yeah, the Dems have been taking a beating from the Far-Left on this but I dont know what they could have done. There’s plenty of reasons to slam the Dems but this dont seem like one of them.

It may turn out that the Senate was more important than trump. The Thugs won the Senate and that was that.
