So about six years ago, i registered on Twitter. I dunno why i did it. I never tweeted, and i never read tweets and I ignored the whole thing and eventually even forgot that I’d ever registered. (Similar story with facebook, btw)

But because zn and others have been posting Tweets this year, and because some of those tweets have been awesome, I spontaneously ended up on twitter, browsing around. I saw Mack on there, btw. I ended up reading through a “whats the difference between a liberal and a leftist” thread. There were plenty of short insightful comments. So, i hit ‘follow’ about 200 times in the next two days. Just leftists. I’ve discovered the Left-twit-bubble.

Its nice. Thats the point of this post. Its nice that they are out there twitting. They arent saying anything we havent been saying on this little board since 19-whatever.

Small group though in the grand scheme of things. Very small group, twitting among themselves. Probly under a hundred thousand or so. Still, its nice.

Does anyone have any twitter habits they wanna share? I dont really understand all the buttons and rules and shit of twitter. Probly never will.

Make sure to post an original thought now and again… on anything, really.

Takes time for people to see you. Most clients use Twitter’s algorithm to see stuff… if you ever saw a raw feed once you follow even a few hundred people, it’s dizzying. They cherry pick what you see. NO way around that… the Matrix is far too big…

Feel free to use the Mute and Block functions. I don’t tend to block because I’m a belligerent ass and when some shitlib comes into my mentions, they gonna be the one that leaves.

Feel free to follow Jordain Rodriguez I think her name is. She’s a reporter on the Rams beat and has amazing tweets with great info about the Rams including latest injuries and stuff from inside the team.

Also, don’t neglect following accounts that engage other interests.

    As for Twitter rules…

Don’t respond to someone and then block them. Comes off as chickenshit and you let everyone else know they “won”.

Follow back. If someone follows you and you check them out and you’re cool with them, follow back. That’s twitter respectful.

Actually use your bio. It’s amazing how many people won’t follow someone without even a basic bio because it comes off that the person is a bot.

Also, if I’m not following you, hit me up on Twitter so I can.

Also, none of it means anything, but can.

It’s amazing how vulnerable people can be online and Twitter amps that up because it’s so immediate.

I’ve cultivated a nice little group of lefties on Twitter and honestly, it helps.

Plus, I’m not a statie or a tankie and didn’t even know what those meant, but I was able to ask. There are plenty of people of all sorts of stripe of lefty to converse with as well which is nice, although it can get a bit dismissive with some folks… I mean, they may be leftists, but it IS the internet…

Also…not twitter, but something I found on twitter…

    leftvalues.github.io

This is kinda like that political compass test, but for focus on WHICH kind of lefty are you

This is me. I thought I was a socdem (much maligned in the dark corners of left twitter), but apparently, I’m an Eco-Marxist…

    That is cool:

Well, I found some of those lists people post. To ‘boost’ people. So, i ‘followed’ about a thousand leftists, using those lists.

So now my twitter-feed (if thats what u call it) is indeed dizzying. I feel like I’m watching 1000 tv-shows, or walking into the middle of 1000 conversations.

I dont quite get yet, what to do with this. I havent quite decided of what use it is for ‘me.’ I see some potential, but I dunno.

I need to learn more about how i can customize the thing. Like…I’d like to have a NEWS feed. Just news. So, i can scan it in the morning. I do like the newsy-tweets. Can i have more than one twitter-feed? One for news sites, and one for just conversation-blurbs with people? Or do you just get one big feed.

I tried to direct message you, btw, and it said you cant be DM’d.

So far the coolest thing Ive found on twitter is some folks who write about labor history. There’s definitely some good stuff out there in the twitter-verse.
    Amongst the usual shit.

I use Facebook for my news feed. I follow a bunch of leftist groups there (and Libs), and mark them “Show First,” or whatever it is.

Twitter…my fear is following so many people that the feed becomes Niagara Falls. I’m only following around 30 people, and it’s like watching NASCAR. Too many cars, and I’m not sure how many of them I’ve already seen.

But Mack is there. And he posts gold, like the Pumpkin Spice Bleach tweet. And zn is there to chip in on Rams related stuff. He is there to point out stuff like the Rams need an Offensive Line in order to keep the enemy off of Goff. And Nittany is there to say, “Akshually…if you blend bionanphosate with xyoletholine, you will never achieve homeostanthesis. Under the conditions prescribed, you would have to….”

    So that’s all good.

I am there to get retweeted by John Cleese…which Mack, zn, and Nittany never have.

I don’t have a Facebook or Twitter account. I have Google and Apple News feeds and try my best to customize them, but that’s not easy. They seem to slant center-right, MSM, if left alone, and keep wanting me to read Fox News stories, even though I keep giving them thumbs down. But some good stuff gets through as well. I also set up Duckduckgo favorites, separately, and made direct choices for specific websites that way . . . including Nate Robinson’s Current Affairs, Jacobin, and several excellent writers, like Jason Hickel and Jason Moore, plus the usual assortment of Arts and Letters stuff.

Long story short: Is it worth it to have FB and Twitter? Especially with the former, I just don’t want to support the Evil Empire, and its war on our personal privacy, etc.

    Well, i highly recommend doing Twitter as an experiment. Seriously. There’s a GAZILLION hardcore commies, socialists, anarchists, eco-socialists, eco-marxists, anarch-marxists, mao-ist-zapatista-stalinist-Bookchin-ites, Lesbian-trans-queer-Trotskyites, Vegan-Paris-Communers, AOC-hating-Commies, Bernie-loving-Socialists, Democratic-Socialist-Anti-Imperialists, NON-democratic-socialist-libertarians, Libertarian-Socialist-Pan-Africans….etc, etc, etc, etc, etc.

    I kid you not.

You can ‘follow’ 5000 of em if you want. Each with their own take on politics.

Now, to me, its just worth it to spend a week or a month exploring that.

I have no idea how long I’ll stick with it, or what I’ll learn.

One of the main squabbles is as old as Leftism. Over and over and over and over they do the Reform vs Revolution dance. They dont seem to have much of a historical grasp on what they are doing. That dance has been done in the 1880s, 1890s, 1900’s, the 1910s, the 1920s, the 1930s, etc, etc, etc.
I just wish they’d understand they are just repeating the same dynamic. They dont resolve it. They just repeat it. Unknowingly.

I wont stick with it, unless i can customize it somehow. But for now, I am just being wv in wonderland.

Aw crap. Just checked and he retweeted something I responded to… alright…you win this one…but I’ll be back!!!
