ModeratorMan, the Chargers pissed off one of the gods. They are just cursed to being a slightly above average team. Justin Herbert has never won a playoff game. Unbelievable.

Justin Herbert, 14/32 for 242, 1 TD, 4 INTs, 4 sacks
Just my opinion and everything, but frankly, that doesn’t sound that good. Though they did get 50 yards rushing, so there’s that.

The @HoustonTexans defense had a standout performance in their Wild Card win over the Chargers, allowing -0.58 EPA per play, the 4th-fewest mark by a defense this season and the fewest in a playoff game in the NGS era (since 2016).The Texans pass rush pressured Justin Herbert on half of his dropbacks, led by Will Anderson (7 pressures, 1.5 sacks), Denico Autry (5 QBP, 1 sack), and Danielle Hunter (5 QBP).
Herbert was under pressure in less than 2.5 seconds 11 times (5 unblocked).

Justin Herbert threw more INTs vs. the Texans than he did in the entire 2024 regular seasonJosh Dubow@JoshDubowAP
Justin Herbert is 1st Chargers QB with 4 INTs in a playoff game since Stan Humphries had 4 vs Colts in 1995 wild-card game. The winning QB for the Colts that day? Jim Harbaugh

ModeratorSteelers predictably lose to Ravens, and it was basically the running game.
Pitt, 29 yards on 11 attempts.
Balt, 299 yards on 50 attempts. (15 for Jackson, 26 for Henry). Just over 10 times the yardage and just under 6 yards an attempt rushing (with Henry averaging 7.1). Balt had the ball for nearly 40 minutes, Pitt for just over 20.

ModeratorBills win, as expected. So far in the playoffs it’s been the running game that has been winning, and the Bills could run the ball while Denver’s run game stalled.

Prefer the Lions in Detroit to Eagles in Philly.

Winner tomorrow night heads to Philly to play the Eagles on Sunday at noon PT.So looking forward to next week’s game in Philadelphia, looks like a favorable 41°. Hopefully this forecast holds, and the cold front expected on Monday does not come early.
41° on Sunday, chance of rain. High of 28° on Monday.

In NFL history, there have been 3 instances of a team having 0 turnovers & 0 punts in a game behind a rookie starting QB (reg or post). All 3 were by the Commanders & Jayden Daniels (Week 2, Week 3 & tonight).

ModeratorI should point out that, after beating Philadelphia in Philly, the Rams will then either exact revenge on the Lions inside their dome, or host the Commies in SoFi.
The matchup that really concerns me is the Super Bowl. The Bills, Ravens, or Chiefs will be there to try to stop the Rams on their way to their 3rd title. But that game is played in SoFi North, up in Santa Clara, so the Rams will have the home field advantage there.

ModeratorI want to throw this question out there: what do you guys think the Rams should do with the 32nd overall pick in Round 1 of the draft?
I think they should trade back. Get a 2nd and maybe a 5th? That way they get two pro-bowlers instead of just one.
What do you think?

As long as one of them is a future qb. A Mahomes, Elway, Stafford type. That would probably have to be the 2nd round pick, not the 5th.

ModeratorLions and Commanders are on.
It’s a new era. In this era, a game between Detroit and Washington is very relevant and important.
It’s like imagining a global scenario where a war between Morocco and South Korea will have decisive effects on international relations.

ModeratorI watched some of it. Detroit, 4 turnovers and some massive mistakes like 12 defenders on the field on 4th and 2 with Washington going for it.

ModeratorThe Detroit/Washington game is what you get when two great offenses face two terrible defenses.
I like the Rams’ chances should they get past Philly.

ParticipantI dunno how the Lions got ‘this’ far with all those injuries on defense. Wouldnt surprise me if they won the NFC next year.

Agreed. I believed the injuries would catch up with them in the playoffs, and they did. And I think you’re right about next year. They probably would have won it this year, if not for those injuries.

ModeratorWhat’s next for Detroit?
This looked like the year they could do it. But this team ran out of gas. Coordinators Aaron Glenn and Ben Johnson have been interviewing for other jobs. They could both move on and perhaps take some assistants with them. The team will get some key players back, but some, including Carlton Davis and Kevin Zeitler, could depart in free agency. The Lions have a road schedule in 2025 that features games against the Eagles, Ravens, Rams, Bengals, Kansas City and this very Commanders team — one that should only be better. How will the Lions respond? How will Campbell pick up the pieces? These are questions most thought would come later. Not now. But that’s the NFL.
The NFL is not kind.
If the Chiefs win it again this year, then… they have to be the NFL’s high water mark.

Except they will likely lose both coordinators, other assistant coaches and a few key free agents. They could be the favorites again next year but I think it’s more likely that they fall back a bit.
