Howard Stern: Trump wants to be loved, presidency will be ‘detrimental’ to his mental health
By Andrew Kaczynski February 02, 2017 15:58PM ESTHoward Stern said on his program Wednesday that Trump will hate being president and the role will be detrimental to his mental health.
Stern and Trump are long-time friends, with Trump making numerous appearances on Stern’s radio show over the years.
“I personally wish that he had never run, I told him that, because I actually think this is something that is gonna be detrimental to his mental health too, because, he wants to be liked, he wants to be loved,” Stern said. “He wants people to cheer for him.”“I don’t think it’s going to be a healthy experience. And by the way, he’s now on this anti-Hollywood kick. He loves Hollywood. First of all, he loves the press. He lives for it. He loves people in Hollywood. He only wants hobnob with them. All of this hatred and stuff directed towards him. It’s not good for him. It’s not good. There’s a reason every president who leaves the office has grey hair.”
Trump frequently appeared on Stern’s radio program over the past two decades, engaging in the kind of crude talk about women and celebrities typical of the shock-jock’s show. During the campaign, CNN’s KFile surfaced demeaning comments Trump made about women on the show.
Stern said he considers Trump a friend, but is opposed to his politics.
“I like Donald very much personally. I was shocked when he decided to run for president, and even more shocked that sort of, people took it seriously,” Stern said.
“I remember saying to him when he announced his presidency, I remember being quite amazed, because I remember him being for Hillary Clinton,” Stern added.
“And I remember him being very–I mean he was pro-abortion. So the new Donald Trump kind of surprised me.”
Stern said he doesn’t believe Trump has had a change of heart on issues like abortion, but is instead playing to his base.
The radio host said he also believed Trump ran for president solely to get a larger contract from NBC for “The Apprentice.”
“I think it started out as like a kinda cool, fun thing to do in order to get a couple more bucks out of NBC for The Apprentice, I actually do believe that,” Stern said.
“He just wanted a couple more bucks out of NBC, and that is why Donald is calling for voter fraud investigations. He’s pissed he won. He still wants Hillary Clinton to win. He’s so f—ing pissed, he’s hoping that he can find some voter fraud and hand it over to Hillary.”

I think there was a large consensus that he was running just for Trump promotional purposes, and never imagined he’d win. He didn’t really try to win. He didn’t play the game. He just happened to be the wrong guy at the wrong time.
But I don’t think he is investigating voter fraud in order to flip the election to Clinton. That sounds like crap to me. I think he’s investigating the election because he half believes it, and because Bannon told him to. They will use the results of the investigation to make it even harder for the dispossessed to vote.
February 3, 2017 at 4:04 am #64712MackeyserModeratorWell, I think Howard is right that all the negativity is gonna wear his ass out.
I mean, he’s getting hammered every day and it doesn’t look like it’s going to let up any time soon.
People are ramping UP their efforts rather than getting tired.
Problem is that Steve Bannon has his dream job of being the Minister of Propaganda…as a white nationalist…in the White House?
Pretty sure he’s gonna Wyrmtongue Trump into doing something catastrophic or into an early grave from the stress of the negativity.
Trump always struck me as an orange Cliff Claven born into means. Makes all the difference. But essentially, he’s that guy at the end of the bar…with a half-wit opinion that’s either wacky or wrong and either a head shaker or head scratcher. He wants to be Norm so badly, but…he’s not…and never will be. He wants to be liked, the center of attention.
I dunno what would happen without Trump.
At least WITH Trump, people mobilize against him due to how outrageously incompetent he is at rolling out these Republican agenda items.
I almost worry more if he had to quit or died on the job.
Cuz, I think Mike Pence would be a silent killer. He’d just get all this stuff done super ninja quiet, without all the tweets and announcements and people would be tempted to get some rest after Trump even though the threat was actually worse under Pence.
Trump is like a really bad burglar who makes so much noise that you know what he’s doing and where he’s going and what he’s trying to take. Mike Pence is like a really good burglar where you only know what he’s done and what’s gone…after.

Yeah, it’s a kinda weird take from Stern on the Voter Fraud thing. Doesn’t make any sense. And it’s too obviously going to be used to make voting extremely difficult for anyone not voting Republican.
I also think Stern is trying too hard to paint him as a victim. I don’t see Trump that way at all, whether or not he believes a word of the shit he says. Is it really any better to stoke and then ride the wave of white supremacist rage, if he may not necessarily share all of their toxic views?
Otherwise, Stern is probably correct about the mental health aspects. Trump is 70. He may be taking enough of the right drugs to appear amped up in public and impervious to the slings and arrows, etc. But the presidency ages people. It destroys them little by little. Trump isn’t going to be an exception, and he chose to run. I don’t feel sorry for the serial lying, serial sexual predator in the slightest.

Lotsa good points, Mac. And nice metaphors, too.
Pence as the silent killer, yeah. The response to him would have been there, but not nearly as strong or as unified. He’s too calm, too slick, too clever, etc. But every bit the holder of monstrous views.

vYeah but there’s a huge flaw there. Wyrmtongue was holding under his power an otherwise good king, Théoden,.
There is nothing good about Trump. Trump is no Théoden,. And frankly I don’t buy this idea that he’s just a naive conduit for Bannon. Trump knew exactly what he was choosing in Bannon and there is no other candidate for office last year, in the primaries or since, who would give a Bannon the time of day.
Nothing will turn Trump into Théoden,. Trump isnt’ even Sarumon. Trump is Sauron. Bannon is the Witch King. He’s an agent of and extension of Trump. Bannon is given power because Trump believes in him and his stuff.
And for the people suddenly surprised by Bannon’s rise to a position of power? Forget it. Trump and Bannon were a “thing” a long time ago. We were discussing it during the election. If anyone didn’t see it coming then I’m afraid that was a blindspot.
There. I get to debate politics and the Lord of the Rings in the same post. I’ve waited a lifetime for this.

I’m not sure that Trump picked Bannon. I think Bannon jumped from the Cruz / Fiorina sinking ship to bail out Trump’s campaign….
I think Bannon’s seat on Trump’s team was picked at the time that Bannon’s investment team bailed out Trump’s campaign… in otherwords, the deal with the devil was made at that time….

Fair enough. Bannon is the Witch-King, Trump is Sauron. So who is Wyrmtongue then? I take it Bernie is Frodo.
…the actor that played wyrmtongue is from WV, btw.

I suppose Wyrmtongue would be Hillary.
Though that’s problematical cause that would make Théoden the dem party.
But if Bernie is Frodo, who’s Gollum?
February 3, 2017 at 12:47 pm #64729sdramParticipantGollum is Guiliani.

I think Bannon’s seat on Trump’s team was bench at that time……
Conway is the one who came from the Cruz campaign. She brought Robert Mercer with her, apparently, as a mega-donor. Bannon spent a lot of years trying to ingratiate himself with the far right and their flavors of the week, from Palin, to Cruz to Carson. But he wasn’t a part of their campaigns. He then took over Breitbart and made it Trump-Pravda, according to one of its editors who says he quit in protest. Though his description of principled Breitbart was before Bannon took over is laughable.
Andrew Breitbart was despicable, and his media outlet was despicable while he lived, after his death, before, during and after Bannon. Bannon did, however, link it to and promote white supremacy overtly. So he gets credit for making it despicable times a thousand.

I thought Giuliani was Nosferatu.
February 3, 2017 at 4:28 pm #64758MackeyserModeratorBannon is Wyrmtongue all right… Let’s just say that King Theodin is being played by a deranged Cheetoh…
And honestly, I like Trump = Cliff Claven even more.
When people talk about “that guy at the end of the bar”… picture Cliff Claven.
WHO watched Cheers and thought, “ya know…I want a President who I could have a beer with…who I can understand…who doesn’t talk down to the little guy. You know who would make a GREAT President? Cliff by God Claven. That’s who!”
Said no one ever…
But we now have an orange, narcissistic, egomaniacal, petty, vindictive, sociopathic Cliff Claven.
What could go wrong?
