ModeratorIt’s all because of the damn salary cap. If they didn’t have a cap, the Rams could just sign a QB from Japan.

Legit report: Matthew Stafford went skiing, ran into Tom Brady.Reporter going for clicks: Tom Brady hosted Matthew Stafford at his Montana home. Brady cooked him a full TB12 dinner, the two watched Step Brothers, compared the sizes of their Super Bowl rings and had a sleepover.

If you really think Tom Brady and Matthew Stafford just happened to run into each other at a ski resort in Montana — of all places — at the exact same time, I’ve got a bridge to sell you. They were together over the weekend —it happened. Multiple teams are interested in Stafford, and Brady has been leading the charge to get him to the Raiders if the Rams decide to trade him

It doesn’t make any difference if it was planned, or not, but two wealthy celebrities, each on the same vacation schedule, running into each other at an exclusive resort does not strike me as all that remarkable. Like a well-known actor and director running into each other in an expensive, discreet Los Angeles restaurant. It happens.

ModeratorMain take away for me: Stafford and Rams separated on money and terms (years). There are some in Rams organization intent on sticking to their numbers. The two sides are probably not as close as some of us have assumed… https://t.co/kwHHg4poOW

Matthew Stafford will remain with the Rams in 2025
Matthew Stafford will remain the Rams’ starting quarterback for the 2025 season.
According to multiple reports, Stafford and the Rams have agreed to terms on a revised contract that will keep him in Los Angeles.
Stafford spent time talking to the Giants and Raiders in recent days about what kind of contract they would give him because he and the Rams had not been able to come to an agreement on a new deal. Stafford heard those pitches and went back to a meeting with the Rams on Friday as the league waited to find out if a trade was going to be made.
The terms of his new agreement with the Rams have not been revealed. Stafford was set to make a base salary of $23 million, which is a lot less than other quarterbacks with fewer NFL accomplishments, and reports indicated that the other teams were offering in the neighborhood of $90-100 million over the next two seasons.
The Rams offer a far better chance to win than the other clubs, so the price tag for this deal might not be quite as high. Whatever the number, the Rams are holding onto their guy and the Giants and Raiders will have to look elsewhere to solve the massive problem in the middle of their offenses.

ParticipantWas there any doubt that he would stay in So Cal?
Fuck the Raiders, Tom Brady and New York, ……California is the place you want to be.
But, Aaron Rodgers would’ve been kind of cool to see in a Rams uniform….
BTW, I thought NFL players had clauses not to ski or participate in other hazardous activities??? And is the skiing really that good in Montana?

This is the way.
Rams, Matthew Stafford agree to restructured contract that keeps QB in Los Angeles: Sources
Quarterback Matthew Stafford is staying in Los Angeles, the Rams announced Friday. He will have a restructured contract to do so, league sources said.
The move came after almost a year of speculation about Stafford’s future with the team following his dissatisfaction with his contract last offseason. The Rams met with Stafford on Friday morning.

The Las Vegas Raiders and New York Giants were both in the mix for Stafford, with both teams extending significant contract offers in case the quarterback was available for trade. League sources told The Athletic this week that the two teams discussed two-year deals that included between $90 million and $100 million guaranteed.
Both the Rams and Stafford also remained open to working out a deal, team and league sources said throughout the process. The two sides stayed in close communication about the matter when talks picked back up after the Super Bowl. The Rams also gave Stafford’s agent, Jimmy Sexton, permission to speak with other teams about contract terms, and those conversations unfolded through the week at the NFL Scouting Combine.
The Rams were wary about making a long-term financial commitment to a 37-year-old quarterback whose long-term future or durability they can’t be certain about – even though Stafford’s level of play inarguably gives them their best chance to win right now. Their young roster, built through two successful drafts, is now their core identity with several of those players eligible for early contract extensions in the next two seasons and that financial planning to eventually map out.
Although the Rams preferred to stay year to year on any new contract or contract adjustment, according to a league source, it was always clear that Stafford would not play on his contract as it was previously structured…..

Rodrigue’s interview that zn posted in the wee hours made it sound like a more open question than I had previously thought it was, but I infer that whatever numbers LV and NY presented to Stafford were within the range that the Rams were thinking, or not so much higher that Stafford would be willing to go to one of those destinations. I would, in Stafford’s position, compromise something (10% or so?) to stay in LA, rather than go to one of those forlorn franchises. A competitor like Stafford isn’t going to want to end his career like that when the money isn’t life-changing, I wouldn’t think. If he gets another SB (and he might with the Rams, but wouldn’t in NY or LV, probably)…he will be a HOF lock.
I don’t know for sure which activities are prohibited, but that may vary by player. And he may not have been skiing. Presumably he was, but I’ve been to ski resorts without hitting the slopes.

ModeratorStafford is back! Yay!
Now the chances of the Rams winning the Super Bowl are 100%.
Prior to this, they were only 91.6%, which were their second lowest odds of winning the title in the Super Bowl era.
For you amateur historical statistology enthusiasts out there, their worst all-time chance to win was in 2009 (Spag’s first year). Their chances that year were a dismal 89.3%, and if I remember correctly, they almost didn’t win the Super Bowl that season.

ModeratorStafford had 3 consecutive come from behind wins in the 2021 postseason including the super bowl, the Rams are 5/2 in the postseason w/ him at qb, and the 2 they lost they were down by just a combined 7 points.
No one else was going to give them that.

Everybody looks better in horns. Even Aaron Rodgers.
But I think I’d really like to see him in a Raiders helmet. Then my hatred can be completely unleashed, and the schadenfreude will be orgasmic.
