Jeff Fisher has been fired as coach for the Los Angeles Rams, per sources. More to come.December 12, 2016 at 2:45 pm #60776znModeratorSorry, wv, there can be only one thread, and this one has official sources.
December 12, 2016 at 2:47 pm #60777wvParticipantHe will not pass Dan Reeves, now.
Well, things came apart didn’t they. Man. This team is just a mess.
I would have fired Fisher too, after that game, btw. I see no real advantage in keeping him three more games. Appoint an interim coach and start the search early.

Los Angeles Rams fire head coach Jeff Fisher
By Conor Orr
The Rams stunned the football world on Monday afternoon by firing head coach Jeff Fisher. The move comes just a few months after handing him a two-year contract extension, which he signed just before the start of the 2016 season.
The 58-year-old has been the team’s head coach since 2012. In that time, Fisher has compiled a 31-45-1 record with no playoff appearances. A Fisher-led team has not had a winning record since 2008, when he coached the Titans to a 13-3 record.
On Thursday, the Rams (4-9) travel to Seattle to face the Seahawks.
Fisher seems to have left the Rams no other choice. Amid reports of dissention between the front office and coaching staff, the team was throttled by the Atlanta Falcons at home on Sunday, 42-14. That followed a 14-10 loss to the Dolphins, a 49-21 loss to the Saints and a 26-10 loss to the Patriots where the team barely managed to cross midfield.
“Making a decision such as this — especially during the season — is one of the most difficult in sports,” said Rams Owner Stanley Kroenke. “I have great respect for Jeff as a coach, person, father and friend.
“He has worked tirelessly despite some challenging circumstances. He played an integral role in helping this team make history in returning the NFL to Los Angeles, and we always will be grateful for his commitment and dedication to our organization.
“However, this is the right time to make a change as our performance has not lived up to my or our fans’ expectations. We all are focused on improving as an organization and building a team that makes Los Angeles proud. Our mission is to celebrate a Super Bowl title with our fans in Los Angeles. Today is the first step to bringing us closer to that goal.”
Around The NFL will have much more on the firing momentarily.

The Rams, mired in another losing season, fired Coach Jeff Fisher on Monday with three games remaining in the season, the team announced.
“Making a decision such as this — especially during the season — is one of the most difficult in sports,” Rams owner Stan Kroenke said in a statement. “I have great respect for Jeff as a coach, person, father and friend.
“He has worked tirelessly despite some challenging circumstances. He played an integral role in helping this team make history in returning the NFL to Los Angeles, and we always will be grateful for his commitment and dedication to our organization.

We all are focused on improving as an organization and building a team that makes Los Angeles proud. Our mission is to celebrate a Super Bowl title with our fans in Los Angeles. Today is the first step to bringing us closer to that goal.”
Kevin Demoff, the Rams’ chief operating officer and vice president for football operations, is scheduled to address the media at 3 p.m.
Fisher was fired the day after the Rams suffered an embarrassing 42-10 loss to the Atlanta Falcons.
The Rams are 4-9 and have lost eight of their last nine games. They play at Seattle on Thursday night.
Fisher, 58, was in the fifth and final year of a contract that paid him about $7 million a year. He received a two-year contract extension before or early in the season and is expected to receive a buyout.
Fisher and General Manager Les Snead were hired by the St. Louis Rams before the 2012 season. The Rams went 7-8-1, 7-9, 6-10 and 7-9 in the four seasons preceding the Rams move back to Southern California.
Fisher coached the Houston Oilers in the mid-1990s and helped move the franchise to Tennessee, where it became the Tennessee Titans.
Fisher has a career record of 173-165-1. He is tied with Dan Reeves for the most losses by a coach in NFL history.
The Rams traded six draft picks to move up 14 spots and select quarterback Jared Goff with the top pick in the NFL draft.
But Fisher played journeyman Case Keenum and the Rams got off to a 3-1 start before spiraling to 4-9.
Fisher also has been embroiled in controversy with hall of famer Eric Dickerson, who has been openly critical of the team.

Rams fire Fisher as head coachLOS ANGELES (AP) — Jeff Fisher’s tenure in Los Angeles didn’t last one full season.
The Rams fired their coach on Monday. Special teams coordinator John Fassel will serve as interim coach. The Rams are at Seattle on Thursday night.
VIDEO: FISHER FIRED
Fisher was the team’s coach since 2012, and compiled a 31-45-1 record with the Rams. He oversaw the move from St. Louis to Los Angeles this past offseason.
The lack of success on the field, capped by a 42-14 home rout at the hands of Atlanta on Sunday, spelled the end for Fisher.
Los Angeles is 4-9 this season and has scored a league-low 194 points.
“Making a decision such as this, especially during the season, is one of the most difficult in sports,” Rams owner Stan Kroenke said.
“I have great respect for Jeff as a coach, person, father and friend. He has worked tirelessly despite some challenging circumstances. He played an integral role in helping this team make history in returning the NFL to Los Angeles, and we always will be grateful for his commitment and dedication to our organization.”
Fisher, 58, went 147-126 as coach of the Houston Oilers/Tennessee Titans and helped that franchise in its relocation. He led the Titans to the 1999 AFC championship.
Long respected in league circles for his work on the NFL’s competition committee, Fisher never found success — or a franchise quarterback — with the Rams, who went 7-8-1, 7-9, 6-10 and 7-9 in his four full seasons.
They traded up for the first selection in this year’s draft and took Cal’s Jared Goff, but he rode the bench for much of the season behind journeyman Case Keenum as LA started the schedule 3-1. Fisher finally turned to Goff in Week 11 and the Rams dropped all four of his starts.
Kroenke said in his statement that “this is the right time to make a change as our performance has not lived up to my or our fans’ expectations. We all are focused on improving as an organization and building a team that makes Los Angeles proud. Our mission is to celebrate a Super Bowl title with our fans in Los Angeles. Today is the first step to bringing us closer to that goal.”
Oddly, Kroenke gave Fisher a contract extension before the season, though it was not made public until recently.
Now, that extension looks more like a bonus to Fisher for his role in aiding the organization’s move to California than being any part of a plan for the team’s future.
Fassel, 42, joined the Rams after spending the past three years as special teams coordinator in Oakland. He’s also worked for the Ravens.
He is the son of Jim Fassel, who coached the Giants to the 2000 NFC title.
Attendance has been something of an issue at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, which has a listed capacity of 93,607. Only in their home opener did they approach that number, and they drew 82,495 on Sunday.
That’s still a high number, but their performance against Atlanta isn’t likely to help sell more tickets for their remaining two home games.

Kirwan and Mort
Both said has to be big time coach with winning history. Not a job for a coordinator.
Kirk Morrison chimed in about roster, Goff, Gurley. He covers the Rams apparently and he said Gurley is no Zeke, Zeke is special. Said he likes Goff’s pocket presence but that he thinks Goff’s clock is sped up due to OL and that’s why he’s missing easy throws.
Mort said; “everyone is bagging on JF but he’s also top 10 in wins and whenever he’s had a good QB like healthy McNair his teams were outstanding.” Said “he had a healthy Bradford 1 year and went 7-8-1 and then…just look at the names he had thereafter.”
Mort mentioned Harbaugh and Gruden..
December 12, 2016 at 5:43 pm #60806AgamemnonParticipantDecember 12, 2016 at 6:23 pm #60822ZooeyModeratorI wonder what would have happened if the Rams had played a decent game on Sunday instead of pulling a Keystone Kops routine.
Going down 42 – 0 at home in front of a crowd already chanting for Fisher’s head certainly finished him off. I mean…that was a debacle.
You know, Fisher was hired in part due to his experience in moving a team.
That didn’t pay off so well, did it?
December 12, 2016 at 6:45 pm #60826sanbaggerParticipantMort mentioned Harbaugh and Gruden.
I don’t think it will be either of them….but, of the 2 I would take Gruden over Harbaugh every day of the week. We wouldn’t even need the Russians to sway my vote on this one.
December 12, 2016 at 7:05 pm #60837InvaderRamModeratorI imagine it will be an offensive coach with a history of developing QBs.
i know people want a big name, but i want mcdaniels. i think he’d be different than the guy who coached denver.
yeah he lucked out with brady. but i don’t know. maybe he lucks out with goff? or maybe he hires a qb whisperer.

Didn’t Kroenke read BB’s book? I’m pretty confident they’ll at least check on his interest.
I talked with another poster based in New England and he said the reports he’s getting up there are Patricia will be gone to be HC but they want to hang on to McDaniels to take over when BB retires.

i will say this. whoever it is i gotta think this is an attractive job. talented roster and an owner who is patient and hands off.

Not sure but depending on BB’s time line I’m sure he would love to take NE over.
Just read another guy saying Gruden with Martz as OC. I think this has zero chance to happen, but we are allowed to dream at this time right?

and right around the time brady retires.
i’m not enamored with harbaugh, but he has developed several qbs already. a former qb himself.
he developed a great running game in san francisco.
he’s a tool for sure. but he’s highly driven. does he wear on players? of that i’m sure, but didn’t they say the same about coughlin?
i think most of his problems though were with the front office. how does he mesh with demoff?

That’s not a dream it’s a nightmare.
2 headstrong assholes famous for being tyrannical at work with no people skills, and from entirely different offensive backgrounds and systems?
Spare me.
i’m not enamored with harbaugh, but he has developed several qbs already. a former qb himself.
And spare me Harbaugh too. By the time he left SF he had worn out his welcome with everyone, down to and including the players.
December 12, 2016 at 10:45 pm #60870JackPMillerParticipantI believe the firing was due to empty seats and the Fire Jeff Fisher signs from the fans that were there.
December 12, 2016 at 11:25 pm #60883PA RamParticipantI was surprised but not shocked.
I really do think it is for the best. This team needs a fresh set of eyes, some other ideas.
Some personnel changes.
I don’t know what happens from here. There is clearly some talented pieces on this football team. I’m not sure a complete rebuild is in order. If the right guy is hired this can be a quick turnaround. Still, I expect a couple of rocky years as new systems are installed. I think that getting the right guy for Goff has to be one of the top considerations. I have no idea about names. They have plenty of time. I hope they pick the right guy. Only time will tell. But I’m ready to move forward.
I have nothing personally against Fisher. He seems like a nice guy. The players like him.
But ultimately performance matters.
I wish him well.

Harbaugh is very good. SF has won 6 games sine he left the 49ers.
Stanford was a mediocre team for 40 years before he won Orange Bowls and PAC 12 titles.
December 13, 2016 at 7:50 am #60905sanbaggerParticipantHarbaugh is very good.
I believe H knows football and can put a decent product on the field….I just think he has a personality disorder that wouldn’t go over in SO Cal.
Gruden has been in the media for a while now and has built relationships with the guys on the other side of the mic…I think he would have a much longer leash with them.
