Well.
Defense came alive in the 2nd half.
BTW…Austin isn’t a receiver, he’s something else. Using him exclusively as a pure receiver is not going to work.
September 13, 2016 at 1:54 am #52738Eternal RamnationParticipantThere was a flicker of hope there during the 3rd . I thought Mo played well but I gotta put this on the coach. I think even the really good players on Defense have seen this one too many times. That death kneel at the end (which we have seen before ) was just too much. We’ve seen this through 3 or 4 OC’s sooner or later Fisher needs to answer for it.

September 13, 2016 at 3:03 am #52743znModeratorER, I can’t move posts right now, and if I could have I would have moved your posting of the postgame press conference vid and let it be the 1st post in a different thread. As a rule I post the interviews separately from game reaction threads so people can expect to look for them. Given all that, I had to post a separate one in a separate thread. I assume you understand.

that Fisher just got outcoached. I dunno yet.w

I thought Joyner struggled. Sensabaugh had decent position sometimes but still gave up plays.
Cam Thomas is an enormous man, but he gets pushed around easily.
Kudos to Kenny Britt for being the only average player on offense last night.
Hekker is in mid season form. I’m glad that he’s a Ram.
Quinn needs some time before he’s in game shape.
I understand some fans calls for Goff to play immediately, but I would rather the Rams wait until the offense settles down a bit.
Lots of other stuff, but I’m working on memory and I don’t want to rewatch the game.

Last time I remember a 28-0 score against the Rams
was a Playoff game against Dallas.Ugly, ugly memory. Cause that was a good team the rams had.
So, is the season over, boys?
Or can they slowly, claw their way back. Maybe go 2-3 and claw there way back with a coupla ugly wins. Maybe get things going in November. Yes? No? Fire fisher? Move back to Cleveland?

vSeptember 13, 2016 at 7:50 am #52753nittany ramModeratorThe O-line was a big disappointment. Havenstein in particular looked bad. Hopefully he’s just rusty. Tavon Austin is just a gadget guy – he’s not a traditional wide receiver. He can still be a valuable part of the offense but the Rams need an outside receiver. When is Cooper back? I know it’s hard for a gameplan to look good when the execution isn’t there but the offensive scheme looked like the same ol’ bleh. Unimaginative.
Quinn probably isn’t in game shape yet but there is no excuse for that d-line to be handled like they were by the no-names on San Fran’s o-line. And Greg Williams got a little too cute at times. As JT pointed out in a tweet on the 9’er’s second TD at the goal line the Rams had a back seven comprised of 6 DB’s and Ogletree when the 9’ers were using a heavy, two TE package.
That’s two consecutive losses to a team QB’d by Blaine Gabbert. Blaine F’n Gabbert. Let that sink in.
Will Cooper, Spruce and Gaines be available next week? Maybe that will help.
I bet Fisher wished he had already signed that extension.

Rams: 3-151st downs: 9ers: 28
Rams: 10This was not a loss–it was total domination by the 49ers.
I am beyond disgusted right now. I have hit my breaking point with the Jeff Fisher era. I want a rebuild. I’ll suffer through that. He has created a mess. I am sick and tired of watching this dink and dunk “offense”(I use that term loosely). They look like a NASCAR guy riding the brakes. Now whether that’s because of a Fisher philosophy, inadequate personnel, mistakes, whatever–I just don’t care anymore. He built it. It’s his. He drives it.
He owns it.
But forget about the miserable offense.
They tinkered with the defense in a weird way and I don’t know what I saw but they weren’t prepared for this game and the 9ers played a half of football before anything changed. Were they trying to see if Gabbert could break the single game rushing record? How does that happen–again and again?
I thought Ogeltree had a miserable game–at least the first half for sure. The D line could not sniff Gabbert but did they blitz or try anything different? What were the coaches watching? What were they doing about any of this?
And I still have sympathy for the defense because they could not even give up a field goal because 3 points would have been too much for this offense to make up. They didn’t have one redzone opportunity. Forget scoring–they couldn’t even get to the red zone. maybe if they had played on a ten yard field they would have gotten close.
Keenum did not look good, the receivers looked horrible(besides Britt)and Gurley ran time and again into a mass of red jerseys.
But I get the impression that things will not change. Fisher is who he is.
I won’t go back to this time and again–but I would hope they fire Fisher and start over because I have no confidence whatsoever that this team will have a winning season this year or next year or the one after that as long as he coaches them. I don’t care about being stuck in 8-8 hell. Become the Browns(hell they looked better)and start over.
I realize it’s one game. I get that. But it’s more than one game. It’s a collection of his work. Last night I wanted Goff to play but I’m not sure I want Fisher to be the one to “develop” Goff. Maybe save him for the next coach.
Okay–I’m done. I’ll move beyond it to other things.

It is frustrating that New England can travel 3000 miles to Arizona and without their two best players (Brady and Gronk) beat a team many feel is the best in the NFC whereas the Rams get shut out 28 – 0 by a team many feel is the worst in the NFC. Should say ‘was’ cuz we know who gets to wear that badge this week.
Yeah, Fisher’s Rams teams always start the season slow and usually rebound but that is the worst loss Fisher has had as the Rams coach. It’s worse than the shellacking the Rams took in London. Shut-out losses to mediocre teams shouldn’t be happening in year 5. Not with the talent the Rams supposedly have. Not after Fisher announced to the world that the “7-9 bullshit” doesn’t cut it anymore.

September 13, 2016 at 12:37 pm #52778joemadParticipantI think Chip Kelly is a better coach than people give him credit for.
I think Jeff Fisher is vastly overrated……
Perhaps the move to LA distracted players, but this team is not smart and is playing the same way the past 5 years in STL…no discipline or football smarts…
Turning points were:
1) Tavon Austin’s fair catch inside the 10, just not smart football there. They start the drive at the 9 instead of maybe the 25 with a touchback or a return by Tavon… The undrafted QB had no choice but to run Gurley from there and SF knew it, from then on, field position was lost… ……with this type of Rams offense, it’s all about field position.
2) Gurley’s taunting penalty…. 4th and 1, Rams go with Gurley, he gets the 1st down to the 49er 30, but is penalized 15 yards for taunting that set up the Int by the undrafted QB.NO FOOTBALL SMARTS… these little things resulted in huge negative factors for LA.. Fisher’s penalty and stupid football culture is STILL NOT FIXED…
At halftime, it was clear that Case didn’t have it… I think the halftime yelling and adjustments worked for a while for the defense, but to ask for the defense to sustain that with a QB like Case can’t be done, unless you play for Denver….
an additional adjustment that I wish that the Rams made was to put in Mannion at the start of the 3rd qtr….you’re not damaging the confidence of Case, he was undrafted anyway. He was missing targets badly…
I don’t understand why coaches do not yank the QB more often when their QB is struggling. Case didn’t have it yesterday, so what, bench him and put in a reliever. Fisher stuck too long with Foles last year again with Case yesterday…. use your friggen bull pen and see what Mannion can do….
14-0 early in the 4th qtr, at that point I still thought that the Rams had a chance to win, SF’s offense was almost as ugly as LAs, but was aided with 100 yards in LA penalties, the killer was Donald’s spike of his helmet…
C’mon Rams you’re much better than that……

September 13, 2016 at 2:19 pm #52796ZooeyModeratorI can’t remember being this disgusted by a regular season game.
And given that I have followed the Rams since 1968, I have had plenty of opportunities.
I don’t even know what that was. As I said to my son, I have to see more games to know. But they were clearly just out-hustled. The 9ers won the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball with units that are projected to be significantly inferior to the Rams’. The best thing about the Rams last night was Hekker. The only other person who shouldn’t be ashamed of himself is Britt. (And since I have a feeling I will be calling for Sensabaugh’s scalp every week this season, I will do so now, although I don’t think he was any worse than most everyone else last night).
We have been discussing Fisher’s fate for a couple of years, and I have always maintained he was secure through the first season in LA no matter what, but that I thought serious “hot seat” talk could begin as early as this season. I think we are there.
If this is a 7-9 season, there is going to be some assembly of pitchforks and torches.
That was disgusting. If you are going to break out of the 7-9 bullshit, it starts with game one against the undertalented 49ers. They can NOT lose that game. And they didn’t just LOSE. They did not even show up and compete.
It is true that it is a long season, and it is true they could beat the Seahawks next week (the Seahawks didn’t look particularly good), but the stench of this game will last the rest of my life. There are some games one just never forgets, many of them brutal losses.

I interpret the 65 games coached by Fisher as 65 games coached by Fisher. You can argue your interpretation and I am pulling for you and your happiness on this but the number 65 is not open to interpretation.
Yes things have to be interpreted. For example you have already done that. You have interpreted the record as being a direct result of Fisher’s coaching. I don’t.
I interpret the 1st 2 years as a result of rebuilding plus losing a starting qb.
I interpret the next 2 years as being an example of what happens when a team does not have a starting qb AND has issues with the OL.
Given how I see that, 7-9 in 2015 was actually quite an achievement. That is, it doesn’t matter who the coach is if all you have for 2 years is BOTH no qb (only #2 types plus a starter who fell apart and melted down) AND big issues with the OL (injuries, and then inexperience PLUS injuries). I cannot think of any team that won under those dual conditions.
So numbers are not real…they are always the products of interpretation.
YOu look at the numbers and say see, bad coach.
I look at the numbers and say see, what do you expect when they have that kind of double problem.
You think (it seems) it’s natural and inevitable that the coach is the final cause and source of blame for that.
I think it;s natural and inevitable that any coach would have problems if they faced that kind of double problem for 2 years running.
.
September 13, 2016 at 8:07 pm #52807InvaderRamModeratorit’s only one game but you would expect them to by now to not keep making the same mistakes.
it’s always excuses with this team.
on the other hand i’m wary of changing coaches at this time. regime changes and qb development do not go hand in hand especially of they try to bring an offensive guy in, and he decides the whole offense needs to be scrapped and bring in a new system.
it’s tough. at this point i’m still inclined to give fisher until the new stadium goes up. that should be sufficient time for goff to establish himself. after that changing coaches shouldn’t be as much of a problem.
