Well, after careful consideration, and weighing all the different factors, I feel I must conclude that that sucked.
November 13, 2022 at 9:56 am #141629Billy_TParticipantI wish the Rams would start Perkins today, or at least bring him in once the Rams get near the goal line. Run RPO, etc.
Wolford will get the nod, and if he loses the game, I’m leaning toward shutting down Stafford for the year, and starting Perkins for the rest of the way.
My guess is also that Rams fans are very thankful I don’t get to decide such things.

November 13, 2022 at 7:20 pm #141651JackPMillerParticipantThe season is over. No playoffs. Time to start thinking about the Draft.
What’s sad, we have no 1st, 4th & 5th round picks,. I doubt we get any comp picks, due to, Alan Robinson’s big deal, he signed.

Sure. If the OL injuries stop and the unit settles down. They get Stafford back. They can win some games.
November 13, 2022 at 9:35 pm #141657joemadParticipantMcVay is not good at contingency planning…
you’re right… that sucked
November 13, 2022 at 9:54 pm #141659canadaramParticipantAs much as I hate watching this offense right now it hasn’t occurred to me to me angry with McVay and his play calling. However, after reading around different places in the internet, I am wondering if I am cutting him too much slack. Some of the villagers are in the town square and they brought their pitchforks and torches. Perhaps this is justified modern day fan reaction and I am naive, but I have no idea how McVay is supposed to do anything with this grouping. It’s like watching a preseason game. For me it is pointless to get upset about a team playing 2nd stringers as well and backups to the backups backups. I’m not even upset about the lack of rushing attempts.
Anyway, I am not a fan of Wolford as a backup, and while the offense will have other more pressing needs this offseason, I hope that finding a backup QB is one of them. They might even need to find a new starter if Stafford is being held together by duct tape and bubblegum.
November 13, 2022 at 10:34 pm #141661InvaderRamModeratorugh.
quite possibly the lowest the rams have ever been in the mcvay era.

I agree. It’s a decimated OL. It looks to me like the coaches have no confidence in it. Not sure what they’re supposed to do about it. Wolford of course is no solution himself. I actually never thought that much of him.

There is a chance that Stafford may retire. Not saying he will, but there is a chance. I do believe that Aaron Donald retires after the season is over. It might be a few years, that the Rams make the playoffs, if both Donald, & Stafford retire. Also, if both do retire, we may be better off trading players, that can get us, high draft picks, in return, as a complete rebuild will be the way to go. That’s of course, if we have any players, o our roster, that can be worth high draft picks.

Yep, seems like a scenario that could happen and at this point in his career he’s earned it. I would not be upset with him if Stafford took a wait-and-see approach before deciding if he’s going to play next season.
November 14, 2022 at 8:31 am #141666Billy_TParticipantThe Draft, of course, is a crap shoot. That said, the best chances to win at craps start with the first round and decrease after that. Obviously, you just have fewer and fewer shots at great players as the Draft goes on, and you also lose the ability to trade down for more good shots.
The Rams strategy can work if they hit on all of their late picks, and the guys they trade for (like Ramsey) live up to their rep. But if they end up with a lot of rentals, and relative failures (Watkins, for instance), it’s not going to work. If they don’t hit on their picks, their roster will be extremely thin, so they won’t be able to handle injuries. They haven’t hit on their picks, with a few exceptions. Turf Show Times has done some recent breakdowns of their drafts, and they’ve really been abysmal in the last few years.
Another issue: The Rams have let too many players go who could have helped them this year. Corbett and Blythe, for instance. I also think keeping SBD would have been a huge help on defense this year. The Rams let too many ascending players go, and rely far too much on the “next UDFA up” approach.
For those who say they didn’t have the money to keep these guys: they’ve been far too quick to extend a few core players, and that makes re-signing those ascending players, and the guys they trade for, next to impossible.
In short, I think the Rams have defeated the Rams this year, but the process started a few years ago.
November 14, 2022 at 11:29 am #141671wvParticipantI got no real criticisms of McV or the coaches.
Just looks like:
- massive injuries
- Key personnel losses: Von Miller, OBJ, Whitworth
- And a go-for-it-now(2021) gamble (which paid off last year.)
I just dont have much of an ’emotional’ reaction to this year, because of the Ring they won last year. That Ring just makes up for a LOT with me. Probly be two more years before i start bitching.

November 14, 2022 at 12:34 pm #141672Billy_TParticipantMy criticism may seem too harsh, given last year. It also may sound “angry.” I’m not, at all. I’ve already resigned myself to the Rams missing the playoffs and likely failing to break .500, which is my prediction. I’m okay with all of that. I was almost there after last week; after this Sunday, I’m there.
Last year’s win carries more than enough for me to carry me through. I’d just like them to course-correct for the future, and I think they need to do that now.
Following up on my pre-game hopes, I definitely want them to do this now, especially with Kupp probably missing some games, too:
Shut down Stafford for the season, start Perkins (not Wolford) for the rest of the way, and find a path to increase their draft capital for next season and beyond. Think in terms of a rebuild. As others have mentioned, it’s quite possible that Donald will retire, and that might provoke others into similar decisions, including McVay.
We Rams fans may be in for a rough ride in the future, but we’ll always have Paris, I mean XXXIV and LVI
November 14, 2022 at 3:07 pm #141674ZooeyModeratorI picked a good season to miss, it seems.
The only games I’ve seen this year are the Buffalo game and the 1st 9ers game. I’ve missed every Sunday game all season long for…reasons.
I had some hope a week ago because it looked like the OL was returning to health, but this is now a lost year.
I also have to think OBJ is not going to sign into this train wreck, so we’ve probably permanently lost him as well.
November 14, 2022 at 7:11 pm #141677InvaderRamModeratori agree with people who say it’s hard to lay blame on anyone. injuries and losing whit and miller. that’s a hard one.
i also had hopes. but i’m also not all that surprised with how the season has gone.
after 99 and with how the offense was setting records the following season it really hurt when kurt went down with the thumb. this season. ehhh. maybe it just doesn’t mean as much being 20 years older.
November 15, 2022 at 9:29 am #141684nittany ramModeratorLost season due to injuries. I’m not sure this team would have been good enough to ‘run it back’ anyway given the personnel losses over the offseason, but it’s the injuries that keep them from being competitive. I see lots of people blaming McVay for poor play calling, not running enough…meh. I think it’s hard to call a game when the available personnel limits you to about 10% of your playbook.
On another note, Wolford does not look like he belongs on an NFL roster. Of course, he’s stuck behind the same woeful o-line that has made Stafford look horrid, but he hasn’t looked good in preseason or any other time since that “gritty but not pretty” performance in the playoffs two seasons ago. I don’t think developing QBs is something McVay is good at or has the patience for.
November 15, 2022 at 10:13 am #141685znModeratorI don’t think developing QBs is something McVay is good at or has the patience for.
I think that’s true. That was the word out of Washington too, from way back. He’s not a qb coach. With Stafford he is a collaborator, which is a different thing.
November 15, 2022 at 10:41 am #141686nittany ramModeratorAnother thought – I see posts about how the Rams ‘sold their soul’ for that one Super Bowl, implying the ‘f’ them picks” philosophy isn’t sustainable for keeping a team on top.
I don’t agree. The Rams aren’t in the mess they’re in due to their draft strategy. I don’t think it’s possible for any team to have enough depth to overcome the injuries that have plagued the Rams o-line.
The strategy can be sustainable. You just can’t whiff on the draft picks you do have (Tutu, Long, and you can’t make bad personnel decisions (ex. sending Bobby Trees to Tennessee to make room for Robinson)…
November 15, 2022 at 11:13 pm #141700InvaderRamModeratori’m glad the conversation here is civil.
i looked over at the herd. and while it’s not getting completely out of hand, posters are just getting testy… like some are getting on ramsey and his fashion choices. it just seems bizarre to me. i don’t know. i feel fortunate to have a player of his caliber on this team. i could care less if the color of his socks don’t match the rest of the team’s.
