It makes me wonder about this kid. He was a 3rd round pick, and an early 3rd rounder at that. Like me, I bet Mannion felt he was going to be the future. I wonder how he feels that the Rams made this move to trade up for the top pick?

Actually he was taken at 89, the 25th pick in the 3rd round. He will be Kirk Cousins.

He is chopped liver. A third round pick will be running the scout team until his rookie contract is up. Brilliant.

A decent journeyman backup at QB, if he becomes that, is a solid choice at the end of the 3rd round. You can hope for more, but shouldn’t expect it.

I think free agency is typically loaded with decent journeyman backups that started out as late round picks. Plus we got Keenum, who is a slightly above average journeyman backup / occasional starter.

What really bug me about the Mannion situation is the report I read saying he rarely practiced and usually ran the scout team. We know he got precious little playing time. Now Fish Snead are giving up on him?

As smart as Snead looked in trading the RGIII pick to Washington, I think he has basically made an equal number of mistakes to balance the books.

Yeah he had a redshirt year, but when he was he going to get decent reps when they were busy bringing Foles up to speed on the offense last year?

They have already said that this year Mannion is competing for the #2 spot. Of course they said that before trading up for the 1. But either way it looks like they intended to give him more time this time.

    That is a fair appraisal.

The upside to being a Rams fan is heartbreak.

    Sprinkles are for winners.
