    from https://theramswire.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/rams/2025/08/05/rams-matthew-stafford-injury-adam-schefter-update/85521879007/

During an appearance on “NFL Live” Monday, [Adam] Schefter offered an encouraging update on the Rams quarterback, saying that the team believes Stafford could play a game today if necessary.

“Matthew Stafford still hasn’t practiced in training camp due to a lingering back injury, but the Rams do not sound concerned,” he said. “This sounds more like a maintenance issue where they’re being smart with their 37-year-old quarterback who they feel like doesn’t need the work necessarily right now. And they feel like if there were a game today, Matthew Stafford would be able to play. So again, disconcerting that your quarterback’s not practicing, but it doesn’t sound overly alarming right now.”

Schefter circled back around to Stafford’s status and wrapped up the segment by saying this.

“In relation to Stafford’s back, I would invoke the phrase that Jerry Jones has used: Don’t lose sleep on it. Don’t worry about it,” he said.

Sean McVay said QB Matthew Stafford (back) “feels good” and is “making good progress.”

“We’ve been able to kind of increase some things behind the scenes,” McVay said. “And so he’s in good spirits.”

    Backs. Sigh.

He’ll play. Of course he’ll play. But its not the kind of thing thats going to get better. And there will be X number of times it will affect him.

I hope he has a great year, and walks away from the NFL before it kills him.

I hope he has three great years, and walks away from the NFL with 4 Super Bowl rings because I’m actually a Rams fan.

Philip Rivers played the entire 2014 season getting epidurals for a bulging disc in his back, didn’t miss a start and played 6 more seasons after that…

You’re hung up on the fact that Stafford has a bad back, and Kyren is a prolific fumbler.

But the logic of the optimistic take gives you a better view.

First, yeah, Stafford has a bad back, but Kyren doesn’t. So it balances out.

And Kyren might fumble a lot, but Stafford doesn’t fumble near as much. So again it balances out.

Besides. It would be much, much worse if both Stafford and Kyren were prolific fumblers with bad backs.

See? Always look on the bright side.
