and 3 and 1 is razor thin,
for wildcard-level teams.I mean legatron hasn’t missed a FG. Five for five.
Ogletree is a step faster than JL — and so knocks a ball loose for a game-winning turnover.A tipped ball here, a sack there.
My point is the Rams are not all ‘that’ much better or different
than in the previous two years. But they are a ‘little’ better.Thats all it takes to go from “one tier below wild-card-level”
to “wild-card-level”.The Rams have been close for a while. Now they’ve inched up a tier. Yes? No?

That said, I think they’re playing a high-wire act with Keenum.

ZooeyModeratorThat’s what it looks like to me. And, really, I think that understanding was at our anticipation that they would run at the playoffs last year – Foles was good enough. And it was our understanding this year – a QB who can avoid screwing it up ought to be enough to get them to the playoffs with this team.
Of course, the biggest factor is that they now play on real grass at home which is what God always intended. I rate that as more important than Ogletree’s speed, personally. Just keep God happy, that’s what I always say.

That’s the difference of the same ole.. The past 3 weeks the Rams have put themselves in position to win some close games by making those plays
Only 1 team wins a game……and it’s the team that executes more plays …to consistently put themselves in position to get lucky with those
tipped plays, stripped sack etc..Last season the Rams needed a striped sack or a lucky tipped pass in Minnesota, DC, Baltimore, GB, SF and vs Pitt…..those were all very winnable close games.
The Rams need to continue to learn to put themselves in position to make those types plays…
One same ole that hasn’t changed is Fisher’s staff gametime management decisions. to go for the 2 point conversion last week in Tampa. He did that shit in Minnesota last year…..the obvious reply challenges yesterday… Who is in the booth to tell Fish to challenge that?
20 years in the league is too long to have a staff with choke brain fart decisions like that.

znModeratorThere were so many clutch plays in that game, it’s hard to give a full count.
So I will just note one thing.
Gurley had 3 receptions. All 3 of them were clutch plays. In fact right now I would say Gurley is their best receiver.
And have you ever before seen a back get hit, fall on the defender without touching the ground, leap up from there to his feet without his hands touching the ground, and keep running?
October 3, 2016 at 11:34 pm #54450joemadParticipantYeah Gurley was clutch big time..I thought this was a huge play in the game… 3rd and 8, this Set up the game winning TD pass to Quick, otherwise the Rams would’ve settled for a tying FG…… Gurley made a nice step to stay inbounds, juke the defender and moved the chains… huge play in that game…his one handed catch was awesome too, Both Marshall-esq plays…

Gurley needs to get going.
3rd down conversions are better than the first two weeks, but could still improve.
Dum penalties need to diminish.
I’d like to see less bending, and more ball control.
And fewer drops.
They have to handle another team on both sides of the ball before I start believing their record. The Bills could be a good place to start.

Yeah, I agree. Can’t count on clutch plays.
Running game has to get better, period.
The whole offense is predicated on it. The Rams passing game is neither built for nor capable of carrying this offense. Eventually this whole thing comes crashing down unless the running game improves.

Well, I’m not sure you and NorCalSeahawkFan are right.Depends what you mean. I dont think anything has to get better for them to grab nine ugly wins. I think they can play at the level they are playing at, and they can still get to nine wins. With no improvement in the running game.

And having Keenum play all year makes them better than they were last year on offense.
So i think right now, they are a final wildcard team.
Now if they get the RUNNING game going — then i think we are looking at a “Division title type team”

I don’t think 9 wins gets you a playoff berth. I think even a wildcard will require 10 or 11 wins. Fortunately their schedule doesn’t look so formidable now with the Lions, Giants, Jets, Dolphins and Panthers struggling. But there are still plenty of games left on the schedule they could lose, including this week’s game with Buffalo.
But unlike you I’m not satisfied with the Rams being a mirage that sneaks into the playoffs based on a soft schedule only to be ousted by the first real team they face. I want the Rams to BELONG in the playoffs. For that to happen they’ll need a good running game.

The Rams have turned the corner, man. Definitely. No more 7-9 bullshit. They are taking the division, and Gurley is about to Bust Out.
