One kicker to the #Vikings. Then another one, as the #Rams take Stanford’s Joshua Karty.

The Rams select Stanford kicker Josh Karty at No. 209, one of the best prospects in the class and ranked in their highest cluster at the position.

    Overview

After struggling in 2021, Karty kicked with impressive accuracy and consistency over the last two years. He hits the ball with repeatable process and repeatable ball flight from 40-plus yards out, and he never seemed to get into a mental funk. Karty has a strong enough leg to make field goals from 54 to 56 yards without having to drive them low, and his kickoff leg will take the return game completely out of the equation if teams want. He has middle-round draft value and could become a longtime NFL kicker.

    Strengths

    • Possesses deep range of 56-59 yards on tape.
    • Creates momentum into his strikes and generally gains big lift.
    • Made 91.1 percent of his field goals over the last two seasons.
    • Handles kickoffs with the same leg strength.
    • Completed slick onside kick against Sacramento State.

    Weaknesses

    • Must be careful not to overcorrect to the opposite post on kicks from the hash.
    • Failed to make his wind adjustments on 51-yard misses against Arizona.

Rams get their kicker! They take arguably the best kicker in the draft in Joshua Karty.

    from https://www.pff.com/news/draft-2024-nfl-draft-grades-all-32-teams#LAR

Karty — Karty graded higher than Alabama’s Will Reichard (who was drafted a few spots before him) since 2021. His 97.0 PFF grade on field goals and extra points since 2021 led all of college football, and he went 24-of-27 on field goals of at least 40 yards over the past two seasons.

from Senior Bowl director, Jim Nagy  on Senior Bowl players in this this year’s Rams draft class:

PK Joshua Karty (Round 6, Pick 208)- Big-legged kicker that many specialist gurus we consult with thought was one of best PK prospects in past 5-10 years. Thought he might go 4th/5th round. Has leg talent & mental wiring to be long-term answer.
