5 stats to know about Seahawks-Rams in Week 10
The Los Angeles Rams will play host to their division rivals on Sunday with the Seattle Seahawks coming to town. The Rams, coming off their first loss of the season, are looking to sweep Seattle and move to 9-1, further strengthening their grip on the NFC West.
Here are five interesting stats and facts to know for Sunday’s divisional matchup.
Rams seeking first season sweep of Seattle since 2015, third ever
It’s pretty safe to say the Seahawks have had the Rams’ number over the years. Prior to 2014, the Rams had just 12 wins in 32 games, but by winning six of the last nine, they’ve pulled the all-time series closer. Still, the Seahawks are 23-18 against the Rams, dating back to 1976.
The Rams have swept Seattle in a season just twice (2004, 2015), so they’re seeking their first two-win season against the Seahawks since 2015. Last year, the Seahawks won the first meeting, and in 2016, Seattle dominated the Rams in the second game, 24-3.
After winning 33-31 in Week 5, the Rams have a good chance to pull off the sweep.
Rams have never lost consecutive games under Sean McVay
It’s only been a season and a half, but McVay has shown a knack for bouncing back after a Rams loss. Through his first 25 games, he’s never lost consecutive contests, which is what he’s hoping to avoid doing on Sunday. After falling to the Saints in Week 9, McVay will need to rally the troops in order to avoid a second straight loss.
Rams are 14-0 since 2017 when Aaron Donald has at least one sack
This is an obscure stat and not one you’d expect to hold up, but since McVay and Wade Phillips took over, the Rams haven’t lost a game when Donald has at least one sack. They’re 14-0 in such games, which is a good sign for their chances of winning on Sunday.
Donald has eight career sacks on Russell Wilson, which is more than any other quarterback he’s faced. It’s almost like a BOGO deal: Buy one sack and get one win free.
Rams are averaging 107.2 more yards per game than Seattle
The Rams and Seahawks rank on opposite ends of the yardage spectrum and the difference between the two is quite staggering. Los Angeles is first in yards per game at 447.1, while the Seahawks are 26th at 339.9 – a difference of 107.2 yards per game. If you don’t think that’s a huge difference, consider this. You could remove Todd Gurley’s 96.4 yards per game away from the Rams and L.A. would still be more productive than the Seahawks.
Seahawks are 30th in field goal percentage
The Rams have had their share of field goal troubles this season, mainly set up by Greg Zuerlein’s groin injury. They’re 23rd in field goal percentage at 78.3 percent, making just 18 of 23 attempts. As bad as it’s been for L.A., Seattle has been even worse. Sebastian Janikowski is only 9-for-13, which is 69.2 percent – or 30th in the NFL. When the Seahawks get in Rams territory, they’re far from certain to put points on the board with that sort of kicking trouble.

4 key matchups to watch in Seahawks vs. Rams
The Los Angeles Rams and Seattle Seahawks will meet for the second time this season on Sunday with Pete Carroll’s squad looking to avoid the sweep. The Rams have their sights set on a 9-1 record and are favored by 10 points, so this is a game they certainly expect to win.
Here are four important matchups to watch in Week 10.
Marcus Peters vs. anyone
The Seahawks have a trio of very capable receivers in Doug Baldwin, Tyler Lockett and David Moore. In Week 5, Moore beat Peters for two touchdowns in a game where the corner allowed a season-high three scores, but that was before the Rams used him to travel with No. 1 receivers. After “traveling” the past two weeks, it remains to be seen if he’ll shadow Baldwin.
Regardless, Peters has to show he can cover whichever receiver lines up across from him. If he continues to get beat repeatedly as he was the past two weeks, the Rams are going to be in serious trouble. This is the perfect chance for him to improve and get back on track, being at home against a team with no truly dominant receiver like Michael Thomas.
It’s one thing if he allows catches and limits the yardage, but it’s another to surrender big play after big play.
Rams LBs vs. Chris Carson and Mike Davis
In their first meeting, the Rams allowed their most rushing yards in a game since Week 2 of 2017. The Seahawks gashed them for 190 yards in a narrow 33-31 loss, running the ball down the Rams’ throat with the duo of Carson and Davis. Expect to see much of the same on Sunday as Seattle will lean on its running game, which is why it ranks first in attempts and third in yards.
The Rams have to be better against the run this time around if they want to win more comfortably than they did five weeks ago. As good as their offense is, the Seahawks have a chance to keep it at bay by running the ball consistently and keeping Jared Goff off the field.
Brandin Cooks vs. Tre Flowers
Flowers primarily plays the same side of the field as Cooks, but he’s hardly been a lockdown corner for the Seahawks. He’s PFF’s No. 67 cornerback this season and allowed two touchdowns to Mike Williams last week at home. Cooks isn’t a scoring machine by any means, but he’s a precise route runner with the ability to get open thanks to his footwork. This is a favorable matchup for Cooks, one he and Goff should take advantage of.
In Week 5, Cooks was forced to exit early with a concussion after a brutal hit by Tedric Thompson, so he didn’t exactly contribute last time these two teams met. His presence as a deep threat alone will help the Rams offense. With Shaq Griffin on Robert Woods and Justin Coleman on Cooper Kupp, this is a game where each receiver has the advantage over the opposing cornerback.
Aaron Donald vs. Seahawks interior OL
Donald has been absolutely dominant against the Seahawks in his career. He’s sacked Russell Wilson eight times, which is more than any other quarterback he’s faced. The Seahawks did a good job keeping Donald somewhat in check last time around, limiting him to just one sack, one quarterback hit and a tackle for loss. “Just.”
Ethan Pocic will see the most of Donald on Sunday at left guard, but the Rams move him all over the line. Justin Britt will provide some help at center, while D.J. Fluker will also be tasked with blocking the Defensive Player of the Year at some points. If Donald can continuously win up front, the Rams will be in good shape. After all, since 2017, they’re 14-0 when he has at least one sack.

Wilson finally getting relief
This season, Russell Wilson is being pressured on 36.0% of his dropbacks, which is on pace to be the lowest mark of his career.
Seahawks running through contact
The Seahawks backfield has accumulated 735 yards after contact this year, the fifth-most among teams.
Seahawks are strong in the red zone
The Seahawks have allowed a passer rating of just 65.8 in the red zone this season. The red-zone matchup with the Rams will be a fascinating affair.
Don’t throw Wagner’s way
Bobby Wagner has been his usual self this year, as he leads all linebackers in contested passes, pass breakups and has logged the most tackles without a miss.
Rams love play action
Jared Goff and the Los Angeles Rams have thrived on play action this year.
The reliable pass-catchers
The Rams and the Seahawks both have one of the most dependable receiver duos in the NFL.
Donald on another level
Superstar interior defensive lineman Aaron Donald has generated pressure on 22.9% of his pass-rush snaps this year. The Rams offensive line better be ready for a fight.
Rams defense giving up long touchdowns
The Rams defense has been good for the most part, but they have given up several long touchdowns this year.

After the Rams narrowly defeated his team in Week 5, Seattle Seahawks offensive lineman D.J. Fluker assessed the Rams defense.
“They haven’t seen a team that’s played physical,” Fluker said. “They want to be pass rushers.
“They haven’t seen a team to go out there and actually take it to them every single play.”
Rams defensive lineman Aaron Donald was apprised of the comments a few days later.
“They’ll see us again,” he said.
“They did some different things against us that was a little bit different than what we had seen,” McVay said Monday of the Seahawks. “I haven’t gotten deep enough into it over the last four weeks to see if that’s something they’ve utilized on defense moving forward.”
Linebacker Bobby Wagner is the marquee player for a defense that is giving up only 19.5 points per game, which ranks fifth in the NFL. The Seahawks are seventh in total defense (333.3), sixth in pass defense (218.5) and 21st in rushing defense (114.8).
“We’ve figured out how we want to play, we know who we are,” Seattle coach Pete Carroll said this week. “Now we’ve got to find our way to get the wins.”
Quarterback Russell Wilson and running backs Chris Carson and Mike Davis lead a Seahawks offense that ranks third in the NFL in rushing, averaging 137.1 yards per game. But the Seahawks are 17th in scoring (23.5 points per game), 27th in passing (202.8 yards per game) and 28th in total offense (339.9).
In the first game between the teams this season, Rams linebacker Mark Barron made his season debut, receivers Brandin Cooks and Cooper Kupp suffered first-half concussions, cornerback Marcus Peters struggled and interim kicker Cairo Santosbounced back from a miss to convert what proved to be a game-winning field goal.
Barron is fully entrenched, Cooks and Kupp are physically sound and kicker Greg Zuerlein is back. But Peters is coming off another struggling performance against the Saints.
JoJo Natson, signed by the Rams after Pro Bowl kick returner Pharoh Cooper suffered an ankle injury in the season opener, is averaging a league-best 14.9 yards per punt return.
Blake Countess is averaging 25 yards per kickoff return, which ranks ninth.
Cooper is eligible to return from injured reserve this week, but that does not guarantee he will be activated.
Cooper, receiver Mike Thomas (groin) and cornerback Aqib Talib (ankle) are on injured reserve. NFL rules allow for teams to recall only two players from injured reserve each season. McVay has said the Rams planned to use one of the recalls for Talib, who will be eligible in Week 12.
