Just some stray
thots…I watched it until the big INTThe first Drive by the Rams (15 plays, 80 yards, almost 9 minutes) was punctuated by dinking and dunking
all the way down the field. It was a Shurmer drive. I don’t think Austin D threw the ball over 8 yards at any time on that drive. He did show a nice soft touch and nice accuracy on the dinks and duuks. Brian S did not ask a lot of Austin D on that drive. Easy simple dinks and dunks – it all worked because the Running Backs and Olinemen were pushing the lackluster Dallas D off the line of scrimmage the entire drive.
…the one noteworthy pass was the final one to Kendrix for the TD. That was a laser
into a small window. We’ve all seen ram QBs (even Kurt) have those go the other way.Dallas first possession — The fumble by Murray was caused by Janoris intentionally throwing out his foot and tripping Murray. An obvious Trip. Shoulda been a penalty against the Rams and Dallas shoulda kept the ball. Big mistake by the Refs.
The bomb – beautiful long bomb by Austin. Beautiful lofted pass to Quick. Looked like a Montana bomb from midfield. Montana always used to throw those nice lofted deep balls from midfield. So far Austin has impressed me with the dink-dunk-passes and the deep-balls. Can he zing medium lazers though?
Quick is good at catching non-contested-balls.
End of 1st quarter.2nd Quarter – Austin D impressed me with another Montana-like play. He avoided a rusher, and calmly rolled out and hit Kendricks for 7. Davis throws a soft, easy ball to catch. Cant say that about Bradford, probably.
Brian S continued to attack the Dallas linebackers with Cook and Kendricks. Dallas was missing two starting LBs. Not sure this approach would work against SF or Ariz or Seattle.
At 21-0, with 5 minutes left in the second quarter the Rams defense is totally shutting down the Run. …I should just stop watching replay now…
…and now Murray runs for 14 and then 21, LoL And the game begins to turn.
Dallas defender dropped a sure INT with about a minute to go in the half. Austin D threw it right to him.
The Wells turnover was the killer of the first half. I have no idea what that was about. Did Austin call out something that confused Wells? Did he just lose his concentration?
That was a critical swing in points and control of the game. The half should have ended Rams 24 Cowboys 7.The Simms hit was of course, not a penalty, but those plays happen fast and every defender ought to know by now, if you even get close to the helmet bad things are gonna happen. That’s just the way it is now. Pass rushers have to adjust. If they leave their feet they have to take the right angles, much like a special-teamer trying to block a punt. You cant just leap at the punter in an ‘out of control’ way – or a QB. I know it wasn’t a penalty, but I do lay some of the blame on Simms. If that makes any sense.
The Rams pass rush in the first half wasn’t bad, imho. They came close a few times. They were inches away from sacks a few times. Romo is crafty and mobile.
3rd Quarter — The busted play that allowed Dez to score – Oh my. Does that play signify that this defense has not figured out the scheme yet? I think Fisher said three players should have handled that play differently. So far the Greg Williams D is giving up more big plays than its creating. I dunno what that means. Its only three games, though, so I’m still hopeful.
Kinda seemed like Kenny Britt misjudged the Austin D bomb. I thought he coulda dived and got that ball. Ah well. I’m impressed with Austin’s deep passes.
One of my favorite plays — about ten minutes left in the third quarter. 21-17 Rams. Rams have the ball about the 43 yard line. AustinD is chased out of the pocket and he rolls out, shows some speed, and zings the ball to Quick who taps his feet in bounds on the sideline for about a ten yard gain. Wow. That showed Austin D’s speed, his accuracy, his ability to extend plays, and his moxey. Very smooth play. He’s dangerous when he rolls to his right. Inter esting.
Quick made a nice play too, but I still don’t trust Quick. Or Cook. I think they will make big plays but they will also drop a lot of balls. I wanna see Stedman more involved in the offense.Fourth and inches, at the Dallas 14 yard line – I liked the decision to go for the first down. I would have liked to have seen Greg Robinson in there, and maybe a QB sneak behind him. Ah well.
My second favorite play – Dallas scores 20 straight to make it 21 to 20 – momentum all with Dallas. First play from scrimmage, Brian S calls a bomb and Austin D lofts a perfect deep ball to Britt who does what Quick never does – he outmuscles the defender and catches a contested ball. Britt timed the jump perfectly – another thing Quick doesn’t seem to do well. Bold call by BS, great execution by Austin D and Mr Britt. 40 yard play or thereabouts.
Good to see Stacy pushing piles, again. Hadn’t really seen that in the first two games. He carried a pile of Cowboys for five or six yards in this drive.
One of the biggest plays of game – Romo’s scramble up the middle on third and 12 deep in Dallas territory. Mobile QB. Without that scramble Dallas loses.
I stopped watchin after Austin D’s terrible INT.
Final thotz – hmmmm. Well, I remember last year’s Dallas game very well. The Cowboys bullied the Rams. Pushed them all over the field. Embarrassed them. Dominated them. The Rams Oline got mauled last year. As did the Dline.
Sunday, Dallas was very very lucky to win. I’d say that’s improvement.Austin Davis looks intriguing as hell. I didn’t take him seriously after the Tampa game, but against Dallas he made some outstanding deep passes, and some special escape-and-pass plays, and he showed accuracy and touch on the short passes. He ‘does’ seem to have a bit of trouble zinging the ball over middle, so far. Interesting. Frankly, I dunno who should start against Philly. I might very well go with Austin D if I were head coach.
I hate to even type this at this stage, but there were hints of a Montana-like-quality out there. I dunno. Its gonna be fun to watch how this plays out in the future.Britt, Quick, Cook, Kendricks, Tavon, Stedman, Pettis, Stacy, Cunningham, Watts – Looks to me like the rams have a nice collection of weapons now. Finally.
Defense? They missed Chris Long, Sunday. The defense won more downs than they lost. But when the lost downs, they lost them big. I dunno whats going on with the defense. I got nuthin. Somethin’s not quite right. If Fisher and GW can figure it out, and fix it, the Rams can still be a factor in the West. In the meantime, the offense has suddenly become very inter esting.
I have no idea what Rams team will show up in Philly.

Yep including the DC. He had a run blitz called expecting run and got play action with Max protect.
Romo had all day to throw.
So there was a LOT wrong on that play, including the call.

What he basically said was that McCleod did not communicate to Jenkins that he was not giving Jenkins help deep.
It reduces to that.
There’s no grand conspiracy there, or congressional committee level inquiry needed.
McCleod F’d up.
That’s all it was.
September 24, 2014 at 8:07 pm #8422laramParticipantzn wth are you talking about??
You can buy that shit, I don’t.
At the snap, Dez shifts out to the X, Jenks goes with him.
Jenks has man, he was NOT suppose to pass him over. He bit at the marker just like he did on the pick 6.
That’s what he does, he gambles on down and distance.
Maybe he should have had help over the top maybe not, but he was not to release him.
Dunbar had the curl zone and got caught on a run blitz and was late getting out.
That’s all it was for you because you don’t know any better.

So I have 2 versions, yours and Fisher’s.
Fisher called out a player (McCleod) and so put himself in a position where he better not be lying. He would essentially be, in public, throwing McCleod under the bus to avoid criticizing Jenkins. The players of course would KNOW that;s what he was doing. I know this much–a locker room notices stuff like that.
You saw it differently. Without actually know what was in McCleod’s head, and whether he genuinely failed to communicate or not. Something Fisher would be in a position TO know.
So far that’s all I have. You saw it differently.
And at the end of the day, that’s all we’ll ever have.
