    Tying it up was inspiring.

Then, letting them off the hook in the 4th exposed some issues.

They came close, hardly anyone expected them to tie it up when down 35-14 at the half.

Saints the more veteran team and it showed.

Peters needs a smack in the head though.

The defense is not where it needs to be.

The entire Rams defense looks a lot better on paper than they look on the field.

Too much talent to be this inconsistent.

What’s with all the presnap confusion?

    Peters is horrible.

A lot of this has to be laid at Wade’s feet.

Proud of the way the team battled back, though.

Could be they needed a nice big fat nationally broadcast loss.

Kind of a kick in the pants.

I was absolutely giddy when they tied it up at 35. But extremely disappointed in the end result. This team is gonna give me a heart attack.

    ;>)

Peters is terrible. Seriously. It may well be he’s still hurt, but he can’t play right now. He gets burned way too often and doesn’t make the plays to even that out. That’s supposed to be his thing. He gets burned, but makes so many great plays it’s a net plus. But not this year. He’s a net liability for the Rams.

I think the Rams should have brought this kid in for a look: Obi Melifonwu. Oakland waived him injured, but he’s trying to catch on with another team, and is only 24.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obi_Melifonwu

Yeah, I know. Combine workouts don’t tell us anywhere close to actual production in the field — which he had in college. But the kid is a freak. Superhuman atheticism for 6’4″ and 225.

Loved the Malcolm Brown play along the sideline. One of the most athletic plays I’ve ever seen. I think Aikman is right. He could start for several NFL teams right now. Rams did well to find him.

Overall, I think the offense did what they needed to do to win. The defense wasn’t up to the task — obviously. If you score 35 points, you should win pretty much every time. It’s time for the Rams’ D to have one of those “players only” meetings . . .

The TD at the end, that put the Saints up 10, was on Blake Countess. I thought that Wade Philips, was this great Defensive mind and all, and we seem to be struggling.

Saints secondary tackled a little better than the Rams did…

I think i’ve had it with Marcus Peters

    Sean Peyton irritates me.

BTW game went the same way WVRam predicted…

Rams fall behind early and fall short on furious comeback…

The Saints are the better team. Barring some unforeseen turnaround I expect a similar result vs. KC in 2 weeks. Seattle will also be tough next week. With the exception of the Niners game the Rams defense has looked below average since the they beat the Chargers. Today they were exposed by one the best offenses in the NFL.

The Rams secondary used to at least be good tacklers. Now that’s not even true anymore. Joyner just isn’t tackling like he used to.

    And Peters? Forget it.

    They miss TruJo’s physicality.

The Saints were better today, but I’m not sure they are the better team. The Saints defense wasn’t fairing much better.

I think the results could be different if they met again, especially if it’s away from the friendly confines of their dome.

I don’t think the Chiefs are necessarily better either. They also have big problems on defense. That game will be another Madden-like contest.

Yeah, it kinda did go the way i expected.

Its a great sign the Rams fought back. Really good sign. Tough place to play.

If they meet again, I’d pick the Rams.

On a different tangent, I dunno that i like this new NFL. Just seems its a little ‘too’ easy to score now.
Its startin to look like pro basketball. And i stopped watchin the NBA a long time ago.

    Good game.

I’m still waiting for the defense to gel. Could they miss Talib that much?

Fowler made some plays. That could be big in 3-6 games as he gets more comfortable.

One thing we didn’t do, is put as much pressure on the QB. Brees went untouched pretty much the whole game. Kamara and Ingram(despite his one fumble), had no issues at times running on us. We need to do a lot better up front, in generating pressure.

I feel the same way. I’m not adverse to high scoring games, but there are times when it almost feels manufactured. I don’t mean it’s fake or anything like that. Things just seemed so stacked against defenses when it comes to the game now. Of course, not every NFL defense is giving up 30-40 points per game so I realize I’m providing a simplistic explanation. I’m honestly not sure what it is exactly, but the nature of the scoring just doesn’t feel right to me. I say this assuming that NFL scoring is up this year. I don’t know that to be true though. Maybe I’m just so influenced by watching Rams games every week that I don’t know what’s normal anymore.

    One small positive thing.

Before this game, the Saints were 1st against the run, and allowed only 3.2 yards a carry.

Well the Rams as a team got 4.8 yards a carry, and Gurley got 5.2 ypc.

So…based on that, I say the Rams can run on anybody.

I will just repeat what everyone else is saying.

Peters sucks. Not only can he not cover anyone–he also can’t tackle very well. What–exactly–does he bring to the team besides a huge hole for the offense to exploit? I also think that Joyner is having a crappy year. I don’t know what happened to him. Right now there are only two decent players in the secondary and one of them is hurt. Johnson and Talib.

Are you kidding me with this pass rush? Where was it? Donald got close. Fowler looked good. Brockers and Suh didn’t do much of anything. You will never beat Brees giving him that kind of time–I don’t care how good the secondary is(and ours isn’t good).

On offense, I thought the Saints did pretty well shutting Gurley down. He’s a great player but they contained him pretty well and did not let him take over the game. Goff was inconsistent. He made some great throws and made some really bad ones. Unfortunately the last two series showcased the bad Goff throws. When he needed to be at his best–he wasn’t. He needs to step up a bit further if he wants to be considered in the elite class.

Mcvay had a spotty game was well. After the turnover Gurley wasn’t even in the game for a 3 and out. And why on earth do you throw deep on that 3rd and 2? Just get the 1st.

So–the Rams got beat. But I have to complain about the horrible officiating on one particular call: the Hekker 1st down–because it was obvious to a blind man he made it. How does ANYONE look at that replay and decide he did not get there? HOW? This is what gives the NFL a black eye. I get close calls but how does a referee talk himself into deciding that Hekker missed that? Horrible.

There were some things to like(the comeback) and some things to hate.

The Rams are still a Superbowl contender but they certainly have things to clean up if that is going to happen. Now we get to see how they respond after a loss. This can be a volatile team if this all goes south. There won’t be any “Ramily” anymore. It will get ugly. Anyone see Saffold shove Goff away?

We will see how Mcvay handles it.

One last note on Peters. I’m tired of hearing how he’s hurt. His mistakes are mental errors. He is getting beat mentally. If he is THAT hurt then sit him. I don’t think that’s the case. Unfortunately the Rams do not have much in the way of options until Talib gets back. When that happens I’d consider starting Talib and Hill(and that’s not great option either)because this seems to happen every week. If Peters can’t fix it till then, he won’t fix it for the playoffs.

    PA,

Yeah, I noticed the Saffold shove. That’s got to be “fixed” in private meetings this week. You just don’t do that.

Speaking of the Hekker call. When I watched it live and on replay, I got the sense that Hekker wasn’t running full out, which puzzled me. Yes, he stretched for the first, and that part of the run was a great effort . . . but prior to that? I’m not so sure he was all in on it in the first place. I just didn’t see him run like it was a 4th down play.

    Just my take.

Also, the DBs are critical when it comes to the pass rush. What folks were hoping for, with the tandem of Peters and Talib, was that the pass rush would be that much more effective, due to their “shutdown” abilities. Talib gives them that. Peters hasn’t shown he can, as a Ram. Two excellent corners would have forced Brees to hold onto the ball that much longer, perhaps just long enough for Donald, Suh or Fowler to get to him.

This offseason’s number one priority now appears to be the defensive backfield. Corners and at least another safety. Speaking of which, does anyone else think they gave up too quickly on Alexander?

    What was the Saffold shove?

After an enraged Saffold drew the personal foul penalty, Goff tried to calm him down and Saffold sorta shoved him a little. It caught my eye at the time but Aikman didn’t mention it, but he did say Goff was doing the right thing in trying to calm him down.

Yeah, I saw that too. Saffold was pissed at the call and not having any of the pep talk from Goff.

ZN, this happened on the Rams final drive of the 1st half where the Rams scored 3….

Rams were driving but Saffold’s penalty pushed the Rams back to their own 40+ yard line…… Goff responded with a pass to the TE, (I think Everrett) to set up Zuerline’s FG at the end of the half with only a few seconds left in the half…. Clutch play by the offense….

After that Goff INT in the 2nd half, the Rams regrouped and responded pretty good…. it was just too much to ask the Defense to pitch a shutout in the 2nd half against Brees…..

I saw shove, too. It was more like a hand-slap, really. What I liked was Goff didn’t back down, he stayed in Saffold’s ear.

The game- liked that they made a comeback down 21. Defense made a couple of nice stops, too. But:

-Tough place to play, good team, HOF QB. Like the Packer game, it looked like the Saints viewed this as a playoff game.
-Rams still seem surprised when a team comes at them now. Welcome to the top of the mountain. Get used to it. I think the team is somewhat immature in this area.
-Like everyone else, I was exasperated by the poor tackling and coverage of the secondary. It was also surprising WP didn’t dial up more blitzes. I mean, zone or man, they were getting carved up by Brees. Die standing up (Quote from Red Dawn).

Okay, Seattle at home. I’ll be watching from a bar in Lahaina, Maui…Aloha.

All I can tell you, is our front seven needs to start playing better. They were getting pushed around like rag dolls. Suh except for a few occasions has been a disappointment this season. Same with Brockers.

i’m not saying it all came down to this, but it was huge.

rams got a turnover in saints territory. came away with no points.

saints got a turnover in rams territory and get a touchdown.

that’s a 14 point swing right there. and maybe hekker got the first down but i don’t like the fact that it got to fourth down anyway. and sean should have gone for the fg.

as far as it being too easy to score with the new rules? i agree. they gotta give pass defenders more leeway in terms of contact with the receivers before they get the ball. and maybe not let olinemen get away with holding so much. and hopefully you get better defense without all the concussions. that’s my 2 cents anyway.
