January 12, 2019 at 11:30 pm #96509canadaramParticipantDoes anyone here remember, not too long ago, when the Rams were really bad for a really long time? Now they’re in he NFC Championship Game.
January 12, 2019 at 11:37 pm #96516joemadParticipantIt didn’t have to be that close…. but that was a good playoff game
The better team won
GO RAMS!!!!!!
January 12, 2019 at 11:57 pm #96523JackPMillerParticipantSecondary looked lost in spots. Did not like the pass interference call on Talib. He is smarter than that.
January 13, 2019 at 12:05 am #96524snowmanParticipantThank goodness for CJ Anderson!
What gets into Marcus Peters’ head sometimes?
When was the last time we threw a quick slant pass for an easy six yards?
Can’t remember twoteams going for it on fourth down this often in one gameJanuary 13, 2019 at 12:36 am #96531JackPMillerParticipantThank goodness for CJ Anderson!

January 13, 2019 at 1:26 am #96532Eternal RamnationParticipantThe opposite of the offensive and defensive game plans I expected. Neither Saints nor Eagles wanted to see the Rams OL doing what they did today.

Agree, totally. Did McVay remake this team in two weeks?
At any rate, the biggest win in….um….?
Rams are legit.

vJanuary 13, 2019 at 8:56 am #96562InvaderRamModeratorgurley 16 carries for 115 yards.
in 2 postseason games, 30 carries for 216 yards and a 7.2 average per carry.
quickly carving out a reputation as a big time running back.
cj made a lot of headlines today but so did gurley. outperformed the leading rusher in the nfl in 2 matchups so far.
also i’m loving the 2 headed rushing attack. rams can’t re-sign anderson at this point. he’ll demand too much money, but rams should seriously consider drafting another running back next year in the later rounds.
rushing attack so important to this rams offense.

and now they look like the Tim Tebow broncos er somethin.Someone x-plain it to me.
Have they always been both?

They always had the capacity to be both. You can see though that after the Chi & Eagles games Kromer was talking about getting back to basics and fundamentals. To me the Chi & Eagles games were always about the OL, and how it had unravelled a bit. A lot of people put all on that on Goff but my feeling was that no qb looks good when OLs crack like that and a young one will especially not look good. (Stats show Goff was under an unusual amount of pressure in those games, double the amount from previous games.)
So what I think happened is, they took a veteran OL and focused on technique and reconfigured them a bit.
They could always run, they could always pass, but what has shifted is the emphasis.
I think also discovering what they had in CJ motivated a lot of that.
On defense, I also think they just got back to basics (eg. gap discipline) and changed a few things and just said, we have to defend the run it’s now or never for 2018 to do that.

vI think the Rams know what they got in Malcolm Brown, and in their crew of RBs, like Kelly for example. I do wonder, if CJ does sogn for huge money with another team, if we could get a 3rd round comp pick, or is it, that he only signed with us the last two weeks, so it makes him ineligible for us to get that pick? Hmm.

Sounds right to me. I’d add that when Gurley is hurt, its a different team. Also when the OLine gets two weeks off it probly helps a lot.

vJanuary 13, 2019 at 10:47 am #96575ZooeyModeratorIf you had told me Goff would end with 186 yards passing, I would have watched that game like a punishment. I was expecting 350 yards from him.
That was not the game I expected to watch at all. Nobody saw that coming. Elliot with 47 yards?
We haven’t seen that team all year. I don’t recognize that team.
That game made me very, very happy. I am content now. We are at the break even point for me on the season now, and from here on, we are playing with house money the way I see it. The Rams HAD to win a playoff game this year, especially after a 13-3 season, and they did. Convincingly, too. That was the most solid rush defense we’ve seen all year, and I don’t understand it, but I am happy about it. And we are now going to see more experts pick the Rams over the Saints than picked the Rams over the Cowboys.
I would have liked to see Prescott planted a few times, and I’m a fan of turnovers (Ebukam!), but I guess the DL decided to focus on the run instead of the pass rush.
Must have been fun in the stadium with all those Dallas fans there. They just got served a big helping of STFU.
January 13, 2019 at 10:50 am #96576wvParticipantFor some reason this game reminded me of an old GSOT game. The one where the Rams had to play the Saints in, i think the last regular season game. And the Saints had already bullied the rams in the first game. And Martz decided to run the ball down their throats. And Faulk did just that. The team was just ‘determined’.
Course the next game was the Hakim fumble game, i think.

Rams had 48 rushing attempts against Dallas yesterday
Last year’s playoff game vs ATL they had 16 total rushing attempts

January 13, 2019 at 1:50 pm #96586PA RamParticipantWell. I am thrilled with the game. I never saw that sort of rushing attack coming. They just destroyed Dallas on the ground. What can you say about CJ Anderson and how important he has been? He is amazing. The oline played great and Goff made the plays he had to and of course, NO TURNOVERS! They learned from last year. It was so important to get a playoff win this year. Mission accomplished. The defense scared me a bit but they did shut down Elliot. Nice job.
My one problem is with Peters. He is a punk who doesn’t like to tackle and he’s dumb. He is going to cost them. I would love to move on from him next year.
But besides that—great game.
2 to go!

January 13, 2019 at 1:55 pm #96587OzonerangerParticipantI had no idea Chuck Knox was back on the coaching staff.
By the way, great game thread last night. It was weird, but after the Cowboys first TD, the mood on the chat was…palpable? Totally down. I’ve never experienced that online before. But it didn’t last long.
January 13, 2019 at 4:35 pm #96592HramParticipantI loved the two headed rushing monster.
The rams didn’t get as much pressure on the QB as I expected them to get. I expect some of that was scheme to contain Dak, and the cowboys running game, but I still thought they pass rush better.
January 13, 2019 at 4:36 pm #96593wvParticipantI’m watchin the game on replay. I just watched Ebukam drop a pick6.
This after watching Higby drop a TD pass. This after Cooks dropped a TD pass.WTF?
If they lose this game, I’m gonna be pissed.
w
vJanuary 13, 2019 at 4:53 pm #96597wvParticipantStill watchin, late in first half. Seems like Goff is taking a lot more time than usual to call the plays. Lots of talking and motioning and presnap moving. Interesting.
w
vJanuary 13, 2019 at 5:29 pm #96600HramParticipantI think, particularly with the run game working, they were intentionally working ball control and time of possession.
It seemed to me that the bad plays (dropped passes/bad throws, etc) and bad calls ended up pretty even by the end of the game.
January 13, 2019 at 7:23 pm #96604InvaderRamModeratorthey’re actually a better running team than passing team according to stats.
they rank third in rushing and fifth in passing.
i think the important thing for the mcvay offense is balance.
so that the play action is more effective.
January 13, 2019 at 7:48 pm #96606wvParticipantThat was a singularly ‘satisfying’ game. They just flat-out beat the shit out of the rough tough boyz.
Byes help. Man, do byes help.

vI like the word “manhandled” to describe the game.
The Rams manhandled the Cowboys. It wasn’t glitzy. It wasn’t a blow out. But from start to finish, the Rams won the game. Even when Dallas was up 7-3, I liked what I was seeing. Even at 7-6, I felt like the game was in hand.
They beat them inch-by-inch all game long.

Divisional round Cowboys
What a satisfying game!! Had enough defense and some wrinkles and a gameplan that I don’t know if any could have expected.
The Great
1) Offensive line … *bows in gratitude*
2) CJ and Gurley … goodness gracious.
3) Game plan … it’s like he decided we were a different team for the first quarter and stayed with what elements worked …
4) Going for it on 4th and goal … while my poor brother was having a nervous breakdown.
5) I called the 3rd and 7 game sealer … so this one is for me. lol
6) Suh saving his best for the playoffs.
The Good
7) Littleton … maybe this should be in great, but I try to save that for standing out. He just moved well and played good coverage.
8) Ebukam on the screen.
9) Run defense against a supposedly great Run O line.
10) JJ3 tackling …
11) Stopping them on 4th down.
The Bad
12) Challenging Gallup’s catch.
13) Not having better red zone plays drawn up.
14) Goff’s every 3rd pass … missing why? Late why?
15) Had a few drops.
16) Couldn’t get the ball to Everett?
The Ugly
17) Joyner doesn’t need to pack, we can do it for him. He had to have lost 10 million dollars in just that game.
18) Talib’s PI. Dude … under what circumstances is pushing a guy out of the back of the end zone ever the “go to” for your mind? And what were you saying to everyone on the sidelines “I was possessed by demons, man!” … “I thought we were playing hockey!” … “I really needed to go home and watch Birdbox!” … I don’t know that I have seen anything like that… much less on a on a 4th down play.

I would like an expansion of that idea.
Joyner has been largely invisible this year, but this is strong.
