1 Denver Broncos
2 Washington Redskins
3 Seattle Seahawks
4 New York Jets
5 Arizona CardinalsOctober 6, 2015 at 8:51 am #31830znModeratorI guess this is the rankings thread.
As of 10/6, Rams are presently 31st on offense (measured by yards).
They have played 3 top ten offenses and they went 2-1 against them (Arz 3, Washington 7, Pitts. 10).
Rankings change so as of today they have played 3 top 7 defenses (Seattle 4, Washington 6, Arz 7).
Therefore they went 1-1 against 2 teams that were both top 10 on offense and top 7 on defense (Washington, Arizona).
I keep seeing “how could they lose to lowly Washington” posts, but Washington might be the year’s surprise team. They are 7th on offense, 6th on defense. That’s actually…just purely in terms of rankings…better than Seattle.

The Steelers game bothers me more because of the way they lost…making stupid mistakes.
Washington doesn’t bother as much because they just physically whupped the Rams that day.

Well, the way this season is shaping up, that schedule looks a lot more friendly than I thought it was a few weeks ago. It is not unreasonable to hope for a 10-6 season, certainly. Heck, they do that just by beating the teams ranked below them in this power ranking.
Of course, that is just THIS week’s power ranking.
And it’s only from one site.
CBS’s power rankings put the Rams at 17th.
But still…I can see 8 out of 12 there without rose-tinted goggles.

October 8, 2015 at 8:40 pm #31988znModeratorSome interesting numbers.
1. Rams are 31st in total yards, offense.
2. HOWEVER, they are 13th in yards per play.
3. They are both things because they are 27th in total offensive plays.
4. If they were just 20th in total offensive plays, they would be 15th in total yards.
5. They are 14th in yards per passing attempt (6.6).

And yet. There’s more.
Long pass
Foles is tied for 12th out of 32 for attempts of 20 yards or more. He is 6th in longball accuracy on passes like that (with 53.3%). Rams are 13th in terms of percentage of total attempts dedicated to long passes (ie. again that’s just 20 or more). He’s tied for 4th in TDs off of such passes.
Play action. Rams are 2nd in percentage of attempts that are play action passes. Foles’s qb rating as a dropback passer is 125, which ranks 8th. His completion percentage on PA is 73.3%, which ranks 7th among qbs who have thrown at least 20 PA passes.
On non-play action, Foles’s qb rating ranks 21st in the league.

Foles is second (with 124)

A comparison of the two 17 sack defenses who meet tomorrow
GB opponents have attempted 131 passes and been sacked 17 times.
STL opponents have attempted 144 passes and been sacked 17 times.GB’s opponent OLs are ranked 1st, 2nd, 3rd(tie), and 13th(tie) for most sacks allowed.
STL’s opponent OLs are ranked 2nd, 6th(tie), 27th(tie) and 27th(tie) for most sacks allowed.
GB has 17 sacks out of a total of 60 their opponents have allowed, or 28.3%. GB gets 4.25 sacks per game against opponents who allow 3.75 sacks per game.
STL has 17 sacks out of a total of 40 their opponents have allowed, or 42.5%. STL gets 4.25 sacks per game against opponets who allow 2.5 sacks per game.
Only common opponent is Seattle. GB sacked Wilson 2 times and he attempted 30 passes. STL sacked Wilson 6 times and he attempted 41 passes.
One final note – both STL and GB OLs have allowed 6 sacks so far this season, tied for 7th best.
I draw no conclusions, but it is obvious that GB has played against OLs that have more trouble protecting their QB.
October 11, 2015 at 10:17 am #32124znModeratorGB’s opponent OLs are ranked 1st, 2nd, 3rd(tie), and 13th(tie) for most sacks allowed.
Sometimes it’s not clear if that kind of number is good or bad. So, does 1st for the most sacked allowed mean they allowed the most sacks, make them 1st in a bad category, or does it mean they allowed the least?
So I looked it up.
It means worst. GB played Seattle, KC, and SF which allowed a lot of sacks each (they are in fact 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in the bad category of getting sacked a lot. They are 3 of the 4 most sacked teams.
