Ahkello Witherspoon has recorded 8 passes defended in his last five regular season games and at least one in five consecutive games dating back to last season. Since Week 15 of the 2024 season, his 8 passes defended lead the entire NFL.

UnFun Fact: Rams KR/WR Jordan Whittington had over 100 yards wiped off the books in Week 1 due to penalties.

He will be a force at some point. Don’t be surprised if he shows up big in Week 2

The stage is set for rookie TE Terrance Ferguson to see some work today. Veteran TE Colby Parkinson is inactive, and the Rams will need more physical play to jumpstart the offense today.

Ferguson could be that offensive wildcard that helps put points on the scoreboard

Since 2021, that have yet to start 2-0 and doing so will signal to the entire NFL that the rebuild is over and they’re not longer burgeoning contenders. They’re a force who’s gunning for the Lombardi.

WR Puka Nacua’s 45-yard rushing touchdown is the third-longest rushing touchdown by a Rams wide receiver all-time, behind a 65-yarder by Tavon Austin on Week 12, 2013, and a 50-yard touchdown by Lance Rentzel on Week 3, 1971.

There appears to be a new WR3

Tutu Atwell got a $10 million fully guaranteed contract as a free agent this year but that did nothing to ensure he’d have a bigger role on offense, apparently. Jordan Whittington played five more snaps than Atwell in Week 1, which we believed to be because of Puka Nacua’s injury.

However, on Sunday against the Titans, the gap between Whittington and Atwell widened. Whittington played 39 snaps compared to Atwell’s 26, which suggests Whittington has overtaken Atwell as the No. 3 receiver. They’ll both continue to play meaningful snaps but Atwell’s stock is slipping after catching just one pass for 4 yards in the first two games combined.

When i was young, i read Lance Rentzel’s autobio “When All The Laughter Died In Sorrow.”
He was a talented player, married to Joey Heatherton, but to quote Buffy, there was a ‘creepyness factor’.

    1970 season

In 1970, Rentzel was leading the team in receiving yards, when he was arrested for exposing himself to a 10-year-old girl.[15] At the time the accusation was made, the press revealed a nearly forgotten incident that happened when Rentzel was charged with exposing himself to two young girls in St. Paul in September 1966, and pleaded guilty to the reduced charge of disorderly conduct.[16] He was not sentenced to jail, but merely ordered to seek psychiatric care.[17] Because of the nationwide reaction and publicity from the scandal, Rentzel’s wife, singer and actress Joey Heatherton, divorced him shortly thereafter.[18] Rentzel asked the Cowboys to place him on the inactive list so that he could devote his time to settling his personal affairs.[19] Rentzel missed the last three games of the regular season, including the Cowboys’ playoff drive to its narrow Super Bowl V loss to the Baltimore Colts. He finished the 1970 season with 28 receptions (second on the team) for 556 yards (second on the team) and five touchdowns.

    Los Angeles Rams

On May 19, 1971, Rentzel was traded to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for tight end Billy Truax and wide receiver Wendell Tucker. Head coach Tom Landry said after the trade, “We know we are giving up on one of the top flankers in the league, but I thought he would be better off in another city where he had the same opportunity regularly. We found this in Los Angeles, and it was one of the teams Lance wanted to be traded to if he were traded.”[15] To replace Rentzel, the Cowboys also obtained Lance Alworth from the San Diego Chargers, in exchange for left tackle Tony Liscio (who retired before reporting to the Chargers, then returned to the Cowboys during the season when starting left tackle Ralph Neely suffered a season-ending injury), tight end Pettis Norman, and defensive tackle Ron East.[20]

Although he spent only four seasons with the Cowboys, Rentzel left as the team’s fourth all-time wide receiver in addition to other franchise records: …. wiki

Rams being tied for 2nd in the NFL in sacks after 2 weeks — before the guys who finished 1st & 3rd in Defensive RoY voting even get on the board — is a very encouraging sign.

Davante Adams has 33 career games with at least 100 receiving yards and a TD reception, tied with Pro Football HOFer Calvin Johnson and Reggie Wayne for the 5th-most such games since 1970. Only HOFers Jerry Rice (57 games), Randy Moss (53), Terrell Owens (42) and Marvin Harrison (41) have more.

Since 2021, the Rams have won 14 games after trailing at halftime, tying the Chiefs and Steelers for the most comeback wins in that time period.
