The Rams have placed punters Corey Bojorquez and Johnny Hekker on the reserve/COVID-19 list, the team announced. So they don’t have a punter for tonight’s preseason game against the Raiders.

The Rams had Brandon Wright (who could punt) but waived him before leaving Irvine. Not sure if Matt Gay or either of the long snappers are able to punt or if this is just gonna be a four-down offense tonight (and next week, depending on how quickly both guys can clear protocols)

Matt Gay is down on the field lightly warming up a few punts, by the way. He last punted in a game in college, I believe. He also handles kickoffs and kicks. But the Rams need to still figure out who is going to hold for him on XPs and FGs, if those even happen tonight.

    Let Kupp or Wolford hold.

Jalen Ramsey on his role in Raheem Morris’ defense this season:

“This is the first year that I’m going to show the world who I truly am”

“I’m not planning on playing John,” said McVay of Wolford with a smile. Wolford is healthy and will be emergency preseason option with no other backup QBs left on the roster, but McVay plans to play Perkins the entire game. Wolford ran all of the second team reps as usual today.

I’m not sure of the value of playing Wolford amongst a bunch of players desperate for NFL jobs but at the same time it would be nice if Stafford goes down for the backup QB to have at least thrown a TD in an NFL game, preseason or not, in the last two years

    Stu Jackson@StuJRams
Per Sean McVay, RB Darrell Henderson Jr. hurt his thumb in today’s practice. Henderson did not return. McVay didn’t have any additional information beyond that.

Exactly! I don’t get all the Tutu twitter hate. The guy has caught every ball and has held onto it despite often being whacked after the catch. Sure he is light weight but get this guy with the good hands in open space and look out!

Darrell Henderson mildly sprained his thumb and is expected to be ready for the regular-season opener vs. the Bears, per source.

Who gets cut today? I vote Donovan Olumba and Jake Gervase.

The Rams have activated Corey Bojorquez from the reserve/COVID list and waived TE Kyle Markway.

The roster is at 80 players, with Hekker still on the COVID list

… the defense carries over much of the same concepts/language [from last year]. One key here is having guys who can teach/develop it and that’s among the reasons Henderson has been considered among top DL coaches in the league

Chris Garrett is making the headlines, but I’m really liking what I’m seeing from Jonah Williams as well. Looks like he could be the Morgan Fox replacement. He’ll probably make the PS this year and be ready to fight for an active role next year, imo.

ILB Ernest Jones is getting some opportunities alongside ILB Kenny Young in some two-ILB sets in 11-on-11s today, and that is notable

Starting two-set so far has emerged as Young and Reeder, with Young really finding his way as the solo in a 5-1 or 6-1, as previously reported. But Jones getting in there for some tandem reps is pretty interesting IMO. Has just kept putting good days together.

got a great quote from Raheem Morris on Jalen Ramsey: “He’s one of those guys who can go anywhere – outside, inside, OLB…It wouldn’t shock me if he could play a snap of 3-technique, the way he’s going. He’s just that type of a special player.”

Obo Okoronkwo has a stinger per McVay, who gestured to his shoulder. Leonard Floyd is getting more rest because they want to be careful about his ankle.

I would say DL Hoecht stood out today during pass-rush period. Best rep against Corbett.

More great news for the Rams: Nick Scott (knee) has a large hard brace around his knee but also is dressed for practice and has his helmet. We will see how much he is able to participate but this keeps him on pace for week 1.

Leonard Floyd, Tremayne Anchrum and Tutu Atwell are all back and will practice today. Still a red non-contact jersey for Robert Rochell but he will practice

Sony Michel reunited back with former Georgia coach and current Rams RB coach Thomas Brown. You love to see it

    𝕋𝕠𝕞 – 𝕃𝔸 ℝ𝕒𝕞𝕤@TL_LARams
You do have to give Les Snead credit for going all in on Matt Stafford and making a move for Sony Michel. It would have been pretty dumb to leave Stafford short handed in the run game after making the big move for him

    Cornell@gqscholar
2020 was actually Michel’s best season from an efficiency standpoint. He set career highs in Pro Football Focus’ breakaway percentage and elusive rating metrics, as well as in yards per carry. He also had a career year as a receiver with 2.38 yards per route run.

    Stu Jackson@StuJRams
For Rams fans unfamiliar with Sony Michel’s background, he had 11 carries for 181 yards and 3 TDs, plus 4 receptions for 41 yards and 1 TD for Georgia vs. Oklahoma in the 2018 Rose Bowl (also one of the College Football Playoff semifinal games). Third TD run (below) won it in 2OT

He is one of the guys I cut when I made my 53 man roster. Rather have Garrett. Rather have Perkins.

I think that, if both players can stay healthy, Michel and Henderson could be a good complementary tandem (key word being complementary). Maximizing Henderson’s availability has been the goal, and complementary carry approach *could* achieve that for both.

Les Snead currently reiterating complementary, evolving role for Michel on the call. Adds that the Rams aren’t really gonna look at this in terms of “starter” so that further reiterates the likelihood this becomes a tandem based on situation, skill set and obviously availability.

    Stu Jackson@StuJRams
Rams GM Les Snead said RB Sony Michel brings a “flavor, genre” that the Rams don’t currently have. Likes how Michel goes “north to south with force.”

GM Les Snead on acquiring RB Sony Michel, “We identified as being right for many reasons.” Pointed to Michel’s experience carrying the ball in big moments in big games. “He was someone we were eyeing from the start.”

    Rams Wire@TheRamsWire
The Rams cleared a spot for Sony Michel by waiving Steven Wirtel, which means Matthew Orzech will be the long snapper.

Hard to believe, but true: Matthew Stafford’s team has averaged 92.7 rush yards per game, which is the lowest of any QB since 1966 with at least 125 starts.

Can’t see this backfield dipping below that number with the addition of Michel. Would be a drop of 34 yards per game.

    John Lavallo@johnlavallo
Stafford has also had ONE Top-20 rushing attack in his career (2013, #17 so barely top-20 at that) and 12 100 yard rushers. In his CAREER. He is 11-1 in those games
