Rams head coach Sean McVay on the team not drafting an offensive lineman this year: “There’s a lot of depth with the 11 players we have in that room today. All of them have played meaningful games.” In other words, reflects confidence in current group they have in-house.

Snead also mentioned the Rams were aiming to bring in OT Alaric Jackson (Iowa) as a undrafted free agent signee.

The highest Yards Per Route Run (YPRR) figures for WR’s in this draft class back in 2019 (@PFF, min. 25+ targets):

    1. Dai’Jean Dixon – 4.32
    2. Tutu Atwell – 4.17
    3. Ja’Marr Chase – 3.93
    4. Cade Johnson – 3.91

    5. Rashon Bateman – 3.66

No NFL team ran jet motion more than the Rams last season (293 snaps). From 2019/20, here’s Tutu Atwell’s ranks on jet motion among all CFB players:

    29 targets (1st)
    285 yards (1st)
    28 receptions (1st)
    14.1 YAC/reception (2nd, min. 10 targets)

    They’re 100% gonna have a plan.

Love to see the special teams capabilities in all of our incoming rookies. I know they will all work to be ballers on O/D, but their ability to be plug and play on ST is going to make this team elite!

Just because a guy is super fast, doesn’t make him a Baller. Just because a guy is super huge, doesn’t make him a Pro either. Young, talented, willing, coachable, hungry & smart IQ players of ALL sizes make the best Pro players.

    • I’ve covered this in-depth since the draft ended, but to reiterate: The Rams did not draft a developmental offensive lineman to redshirt for a year and be a long-term solution for three upcoming contracts in the next year. They have drafted one offensive lineman in the last two seasons in Tremayne Anchrum, a seventh-rounder with a lot of potential. They feel they are in a good spot on the offensive line for now — a source said that things are currently penciled in for Andrew Whitworth (LT), David Edwards (LG), Austin Corbett (C), Bobby Evans (RG) and Rob Havenstein to open camp as the starting lineup. Whitworth will turn 40 this year, Corbett has never played center for the Rams and depth there looks shaky and/or unproven. As I said on the 11 Personnel podcast this week — by the time you notice the ants are in the house, it’s already too late. I’ll add that it’s not like the Rams didn’t like any of the linemen — a couple they did like were gone before their picks.

Among the biggest free agents in 2022 are D-Will, DeSean, Corbett, SJD, Noteboom.

Rams are currently *over* a projected salary cap of $203M by $873K. So they have some work to do still.

That doesn’t include our RFAs and ERFAs as well.

Right now, pre-2021 season, I’d say the most important re-signings will be SJD, Corbett and Darious Williams. Hopefully, Tutu will make Jackson “expendable,” and I doubt they even plan for him to play two seasons. I wonder if anyone knows what Noteboom really can do as a permanent starter.

If I had to pick just one player to keep from that group, it’s SJD.

Just thought I would draw attention to this. It’s a bit from alyoshamucci’s draft review. Generally he did not like the first 2 picks. But what he says about these 3 players is intriguing. The full review is here: http://theramshuddle.com/topic/live-rams-post-draft-show-full-draft-recap/#post-129695

    4) Bobby Brown 3 … Had him as a second round value. Watched his entire career. He’s a beast and I was shocked he lasted until the 4th. Good burst, gets into guys fast … and his speed and physicality gives him upside. He’s also always been the guy drawing extra blockers … he’ll have less of that. And he held up well against SEC O lines.
Don’t have any negatives on this one, I smiled for the first time during the draft after the pick.

4-2) Rochell … This is an upside pick. Kid has ball skills and speed, but is going to need a redshirt. His burst numbers were nuts and he’s got some length to him. I had him in my top 100 so this is value.

4-3) Jacob Harris. Upside pick … and likely a position change. Special Teams ace, so now we’re switching to addressing that (again, assumption). You can’t coach the athleticism he has. 4.39 40 at 229 and 6-5 is wild, but a 6.54 3 cone is unbelievable. If I’m not mistaken that’s not only the best number in the class, but in the top 10 ever. So … let’s say over the next year or two you put 15 pounds on him. Teach him to block. Then you can have a 6-5 245 TE that’s likely still running under a 4.5 that has ridiculous agility. That’s a Waller style player. Waller took over like 4 games last year. They couldn’t cover him. So spending a pick at a chance to build one of those is worth it.

If you were annoyed with Gerald Everett’s hands, prepare for this season. Brycen Hopkins had 8 drops in 2019 at Purdue, and Jacob Harris had 10 the past two seasons at UCF (@PFF).

    Not pretty, bob.

Fun fact: Earnest Brown IV (5th round EDGE) led Northwestern in total pressures and run stops last season (@PFF).

Fun tape, too. Very stout early-down defender who utilizes his length very well and has a ton of strength/torque. Looks like a fun 5T on early downs IMO.
