    That last vid, there’s a play I still remember fondly. I still get all amused and admiring when I see it again–after Howard intercepted the pass to end the game, it is Gaines that tackled him. Great quick last second decision by Gaines. With Howard down nothing can happen to the ball and the Rams maintain possession.

    Yeah, that was a Faulk-like play by Gaines.   Football-Awareness.

    And i have zero doubt McVay will use that Gaines play as a teaching vid.

    I keep going back to that Scott hit on Deebo.   That play is just unreal in today’s NFL.   You do NOT see a hit that HARD that is still viewed as totally clean.

    It was the perfect NFL Defensive hit.  You cannot do it any harder or any better.   Its the essence of…somethin.

    I watch it and rewatch in slow-motion and every single time, I think to myself “where is the flag?”  — because my brain just cant accept that THAT kind of hitting is STILL legal in the NFL.   But then when you look at it, its…just…perfect.

    Who woulda thought Mr Scott would come up with the best Ram hit of the year…decade…century?

     

    Thats a body-bag hit.

    Brown hired new RBs coach Samples and some of our discussion today was about making sure people get opportunities to get information others are getting. Often in his experience, he noted, RBs coaches aren’t privy to passing game planning and design meetings. It’s important to him

    that Samples is getting in those rooms and those meetings even as he’s challenged in his own new role. Brown unflinchingly and rightfully honest in his assessment in how opportunities must expand in a variety of ways in order to increase opportunities for more people.

    well samples was a wide receiver in college before he became a running backs coach.  so he’s got experience in the passing game and running game.  and it sounds like he’s not satisfied with just familiarizing himself with the rams’ running schemes.  here’s hoping brown and samples are the next 2 coaching superstars from the mcvay tree.
