Terrell Burgess, Dont’e Deayon and Robert Rochell spent extra time on the field after practice today, in deep conversation with DC Raheem Morris and DBs coach Jonathan Cooley.

If Odell Beckham Jr. plays Sunday, it will be his first #Rams game at SoFi Stadium. “This stadium is obviously one of a kind,” he said today.

The Rams put Buddy Howell on injured reserve (their fourth RB to have suffered a season-ending injury this year; fifth to suffer significant injury if Cam Akers ultimately does return).

Elevated WR Brandon Powell and RB Mekhi Sargent from practice squad.

    Tom Pelissero@TomPelissero
The NFL fined #Rams DT Aaron Donald $10,300 for unnecessary roughness last week. Video showed Donald with a hand at #Packers guard Lucas Patrick’s neck after a play.

I’m so dumb, it’s only Monday and I’m starting to convince myself we can beat the Cardinals.

Someone please stop me, this isn’t good for my mental health.

Andrew Whitworth reached out to Jared Goff yesterday and congratulated him on winning for the Lions. Whitworth told Goff about the big cheer he got from the SoFi crowd watching the highlights on the video board.

Per Sean McVay, Brian Allen sprained his MCL and is day-to-day. He is not ruled out this week but will be limited in practice to start the week.

Sean McVay did not want to commit to Sony Michel moving into a traditional lead-back role, BUT added that the type of downhill physicality the Rams utilized behind Michel and some of those blocking concepts is something he believes they’ll need down the back stretch. Personal

opinion is that what he’d REALLY like to do is utilize more two-back personnel sets between Michel and Henderson, who has really been a positive in the passing game.

Has anyone tweeted yet about McVay obviously reading my posts, finally, which led to his adding multiple sets like six linemen and extra TEs?

On Sunday against the Jaguars, the Rams ran 74% of their plays from 11 personnel and 23% from 12 personnel.

That 23% in 12 personnel was their most since Week 5 (one week before Mundt’s injury).

    Rams Wire@TheRamsWire
If the Rams lose to the Cardinals in Week 14, they can all but rule out winning the NFC West.

    Jourdan Rodrigue@JourdanRodrigue
The Rams waived WR JJ Koski, who I believe can still return to their practice squad once clearing waivers. Would think this is in advance of either a Hollins activation or a spot for Powell, who showed promise in the return game last week (he can also continue to be elevated).

Rams’ Greg Gaines ranks 5th in pass rush win rate at defensive tackle and 4th in run stop win rate at defensive tackle this season.

Also crazy: Aaron Donald’s pass rush win rate at defensive tackle is more than *double* Gaines’, despite Gaines ranking 5th in the category.

    Cameron DaSilva@camdasilva
Since Week 8, Gaines has 17 pressures, which ranks 11th among interior defenders and is only 3 fewer than Aaron Donald

Losing SJD for the season in a contract year was legitimately gut wrenching. Having the void filled internally by a guy who clearly wants it is very fun to watch.

    Brent Lancaster@BrentRamcaster
    Greg Gaines – 4th rounder
    SJD – 6th rounder
    Jordan Fuller – 6th rounder
    Ernest Jones – 3rd rounder
    Tyler Higbee – 4th rounder
    Brian Allen – 4th rounder (#6 PFF!)
    David Edwards – 5th rounder
    Cooper Kupp – 3rd rounder

The Rams have shown they can hit on Day 2 and 3 of the draft.

I agree that the Rams have done pretty well with late picks. But it’s a mistake for people to think that doesn’t come at a price — if they do believe that.

How much better would they be today if they had both — early picks and those solid to excellent mid to late rounders.

And, obviously, it’s not just a matter of the players the Rams could have had. “Opportunity costs,” etc. It’s that other teams added them to their rosters. It’s a double-bad-hit.

Speaking of Gaines and SJD. I’m hoping they can re-sign the latter, and then use a four-man front, often, in 2022. How good would it be to have both Gaines and SJD on the field at the same time? Donald and, say, a beefed-up Hollins, Floyd (or rook/FA) at the other DE?

I’ve always preferred a 4-3 defense. But I know that’s not what the Rams want right now. But they have been willing, at times, to mix things up a bit. Having that flexibility, talent-wise, would be great.

A lot has changed since the Rams last played the Cardinals.

Rams have gotten Von Miller and OBJ since, but lost Robert Woods and others.

Cardinals could be without Chase Edmonds who had 12 carries for 120 yards in Week 4. James Connor only averaged 2.8 YPC.

    Cameron DaSilva@camdasilva
Sean McVay spoke highly of Joe Noteboom on the Coach McVay Show this week, saying “You can’t tell me Joe Noteboom’s not one of our best 11 football players” when referring to the offensive shuffling on Sunday.

Noteboom will be a FA in March.

    NFL Stats@NFL_Stats
QBs with the most passes dropped this season:

    Patrick Mahomes – 30
    Justin Herbert – 28
    Matthew Stafford – 24
    Josh Allen – 21
    Jared Goff – 21
    Sam Darnold – 21
    Tom Brady – 20
    Trevor Lawrence – 20
    Carson Wentz – 19
    Ben Roethlisberger – 19
    Daniel Jones – 19

    Axel Kopun@FV_Mylia_Lynn
Context matters. Brady’s thrown 508 passes, Mahomes is 2nd with 478. Darnold only has 306. Looking at the percentage of pass attempts that were dropped gives a better indication of how much a QB is really suffering from dropped passes. When you do that the list looks like this:

    Darnold – 6.8%
    Mahomes – 6.2%
    Herbert – 5.9%
    Stafford – 5.4%
    Goff – 5.2%
    Jones – 5.2%
    Allen – 4.7%
    Lawrence – 4.6%
    Roethlisberger – 4.57%
    Wentz – 4.52%
    Brady – 3.9%

If we look at all QBs Brady probably ranks pretty near the bottom in passes dropped.
