The Rams are favored by 14.5 points over the Texans, the biggest spread in the NFL for Week 8.

Last week’s video of RB Cam Akers working out made me wonder… is he definitely done-done for 2021?

    Sean McVay just now: “No.”

Sounds like @RamsNFL might have a chance to add his contributions if they were to play into postseason: “That’s not something I would rule out.”

    Jourdan Rodrigue@JourdanRodrigue
McVay earlier in the week said that Tutu Atwell would be a candidate for kick return (Ben Skowronek lined up back there instead), but McVay made it clear today that Atwell was not ultimately a candidate there. Overall said it didn’t matter who was returning, blocking was issue.

Rams don’t pay their ILBs so Young would be a FA after this season. Trading him now instead of simply reducing his minutes just to let him become a FA anyway meant Rams got something back and cleared cap room.

Overall said it didn’t matter who was returning, blocking was issue.

The Rams STs gave up an onside kick and got burned on but two fake punts, and McVay also happens to mention that the blocking on returns was awful. Just spitballing here, but I’m gonna say that the head coach is pretty angry about the overall performance of the special teams unit.

Mcvay isn’t telling the truth imo. Atwell doesn’t have a kickoff return body type, most wrs don’t. D Jack is returning punts bc Mcvay is trying to keep him happy. Mcvay is struggling to get D Jack snaps on the field. So he has to try other ways to get him touches.

Rams DC Raheem Morris on rookie LB Ernest Jones: “I’ve been impressed with his constant development. Going out there every single week and treating each week like he was going to be the starter, whether he was or not.”

Morris also said he’s “fired up” about watching Jones play

    Lindsey Thiry@LindseyThiry
There’s a lot of optimism around the skillset of Jones, a third-round pick from South Carolina, who Morris says will bring some pop.

“I’d like to see him have an increased sense of urgency,” — Rams coach Sean McVay on rookie second-round pick Tutu Atwell.

Didn’t Gray coach DBs for the Rams a long time ago?

27 years coaching. I wonder if he wants to move up in responsibility, or if he is happy where he is.

Gray of course played for the Rams. But he never coached for the Rams.

The Rams are giving up 20.9 points per game – and rank 7th in ppg – which is only 0.3 points more than the Buccaneers last season.

The last 9 Super Bowl champions ALL ranked top-10 in points allowed.

The final injury report of Week 8 is as long as any for the Rams this season, which isn’t a great sign heading into Sunday. Andrew Whitworth and Sebastian Joseph-Day have already been ruled out, and three other players are listed as questionable.

Ramsey, Jordan Fuller and Robert Rochell are all questionable to play, though Sean McVay expects Ramsey to play on Sunday despite missing practice Friday.

Joe Noteboom and Greg Gaines. Lets see a big game out of you two this week

Asked McVay whether second-round pick Atwell (who somewhat understandably has not worked into offense but ST touches have also decreased) is where he thought he’d be: “He has a lot of room to develop and grow…I’d like to see him have a little more increased sense of urgency.”

I think the realistic and fair way to look at this is that it’s OK to not be factoring in as much right now as a WR because of level of depth and success rate ahead on roster. But, the Rams have not been able to get their second-round pick factored into ST consistently either

    Rich Hammond@Rich_Hammond
I regret/will acknowledge if I’m forgetting something, but this is only the second time in five seasons that I remember McVay being this publicly direct about a player.
