Rams are trading DE Robert Quinn to Miami, sources tell ESPN.March 2, 2018 at 5:26 pm #83358snowmanParticipantIan Rapoport is reporting the same thing. No word on what we are getting from the Dolphins.
March 2, 2018 at 5:26 pm #83359wvParticipantSigh. Probably the right thing to do at this point while he still has some value,
but I will miss Quinn. Or I will miss what he used to be, and still showed flashes of last season.Shame about his back problems.
Vintage, Healthy Quinn was an awesome force to behold.
I guess they can sign Watkins and Donald and Joyner now.
Maybe they draft a pass-rusher.
I hope they get a third rounder for Quinn.

The #Dolphins just completed a conference call with #Rams pass-rusher Robert Quinn, informing him he’s being traded.Joe Curley@vcsjoecurley
Rams move DE Robert Quinn to Miami. Clears more than $11m off its 2018 cap. @CVRamsClubMarch 2, 2018 at 5:37 pm #83362znModeratorAlden Gonzalez@Alden_Gonzalez
Rams sending Robert Quinn to Dolphins for a mid-round pick, as Schefter and others reported. Big thing for them is cap relief. Quinn will cost more than $25M towards cap next 2 years. Less than $1M tied to dead cap, but Rams were able to shed that and get a draft pick here.Quinn may not be the same man who had 40 sacks from 2012-14, but he stayed healthy last year, and down the stretch he played his best football, with 6 sacks in his last 5 games. He returns to a 4-3, which is a better fit. Can focus exclusively on rushing the passer.
The Robert Quinn trade signals what could be a complete makeover of the Rams’ linebacking core. They might need two new OLBs, with Connor Barwin set to become a free agent. And they could cut ILB Mark Barron, which would free up $22M in cap space the next three years.
Rich Hammond@Rich_Hammond
Of course, the Rams’ other starting OLB, Connor Barwin, also is set to become a UFA. This is good news for a guy like Samson Ebukam, but Rams should be active in draft and FA when it comes to linebackers.Ryan Kartje@Ryan_Kartje
Rams trade of Robert Quinn … Imagine now the 1st-round focus shifts to edge rusherMarch 2, 2018 at 5:48 pm #83364znModeratorAdam Schefter@AdamSchefter
Rams trading Robert Quinn to Miami for a mid-round pick, and the teams also are swapping late-round picks. So trade looks as it will involve three picks and one player. With two Pro Bowls and 62.5 career sacks on his resume, Robert Quinn will form a dynamic pass-rush duo with Cam Wake.

The #Rams offered the #Chiefs Robert Quinn during their trade talks centered around CB Marcus Peters, and now turn and deal him to the #Dolphins instead. He’s due $22M over 2 years.March 2, 2018 at 5:58 pm #83366znModeratorI guess they can sign Watkins and Donald and Joyner now.
They always could do all that, even with Quinn. Anyone saying otherwise didn’t know the numbers.
No, trading Quinn is about more than that. I expect a big FA signing now.

8.5 sack last year in Wade’s 3-4

I think he was hurt most of the year.
In the last games, he came on in that scheme.

Robert Quinn. …Multiple teams were in the hunt until hours ago. @nflnetwork @gmfbMarch 2, 2018 at 6:52 pm #83374JackPMillerParticipantWhat is weird, we are going to have five 6th rounders. Something tells me, we may trade some of them.
March 2, 2018 at 7:25 pm #83376nittany ramModeratorI will say this. For those excited the Rams traded away their long-time tenured Ram and best pass rusher because of the idea of signing Sammy Watkins long-term…You need to realize there are plenty of receivers out there to be had but finding great pass rushers is not easy…
— Downtown Rams (@DowntownRams) March 2, 2018
This isn't even to knock Sammy or Quinn. Quinn is good and Sammy is probably the better player. However, once again, it's about value. Quinn would instantly be the best EDGE on the market if he hit FA today. Even with all of the injury and production concerns.

March 2, 2018 at 7:55 pm #83378InvaderRamModeratorOr maybe it makes room to keep Johnson.
yeah. that’s what i was thinking.
March 2, 2018 at 8:01 pm #83380InvaderRamModeratorif they can bring tru back along with joyner, the secondary is set. then they need to draft linebacker.
March 2, 2018 at 10:40 pm #83382InvaderRamModeratori’m getting really excited. rams all of a sudden have tons of cap space to re-sign their free agents. rams could have a defensive backfield of peters, johnson, joyner, and johnson???
if that happens, rams can spend draft loading up on pass rushers and the offensive line.
my whole thinking on the draft has done a 180. best way to go might be getting a left tackle with the first and finding a pass rusher in the third.
March 3, 2018 at 2:20 pm #83401nittany ramModeratorAccording to PFF, 2017 was Quinn’s worst season.
Part of this is due to his injuries, but his play has been in steady decline since 2013.

That’s probably due to injuries and/or the lingering effects of injuries.
PFF also praised him for his play in the final games of 2017. So apparently by the end of the season, he was over whatever it was.
Problem with PFF overall season grades is that they are based on averages for the season and therefore hide things like that.

Robert Quinn is beginning to turn his season around after a rough start on the edge of Wade Phillips’ defense. In his last three games, Quinn has accumulated three sacks and eight stops in run defense. In the same set of games, the veteran has not missed a tackle, and his 8.4 run-stop percentage ranks second among edge defenders.
