Just saw it on the news. We are giving the Patriots the 23rd pick, and one of our 6th rounders in this draft as well.

Not feeling comfortable about this trade at all.

The Rams get Cooks and a 4th round pick from the Pats this year – the Pats get the Rams 1st pick and a 6th round pick this year.

Still a bad trade for us. WR is not a need. We have to wait till late round 3 now before we pick, and that is trading for a position we don’t need. Plus, Cooks is a number 2 WR. You don’t trade the 23rd pick for a number 2 or number 3.

I believe cooks is a number one wide receiver. He gained 1000 yards and had seven touchdowns for the last three years with two different teams that spread the ball around

I hope they can sign him to a long term deal

I am not enthused about this, but it is a hell of a lot better than going after obj. Cooks is a FA next year. Cooks played with Mannion in college.

    http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/18878699/new-england-patriots-trade-new-orleans-saints-brandin-cooks

The first-round pick is No. 32 overall, the last selection of the round. The Patriots also will trade a third-round pick (No. 103) to New Orleans and receive the Saints’ fourth-round pick (No. 118), sources tell Russini.

What NE gave for Cooks last year.

    So…no first, and no second.

I guess the Rams’ draft is over except for developmental guys.

I don’t know Cooks. But the Rams better sign him to a long term deal. I don’t want to give up a first round pick for a rental.

    Maybe this escalates.

Next year they trade 2 first round picks for a guy the day before his contract expires.

cooks > watkins. but yeah, rams better get him signed to a long-term contract. or this sucks.

my immediate thoughts are the rams got better on offense. a lot better. IF everyone stays healthy and continues to progress.

rams better load up on some backups for the oline.

but cooks is good. he’s real good. better than sammy.

they do get a fourth rounder back which i’m assuming they’ll use on oline or linebacker. i’d still like to see them draft a tight end. i am not a fan of higbee.

As I have stated, we have other needs, LOT, C, LB, and what we do? Trade our 1st round pick for a WR? a position we don’t need. This is a head scratcher.

I mentioned this elsewhere on the internet, but for the Rams this season either ends up a rousing success or a fantastic disaster. There is to be no in between.

Yes, it certainly looks that way. It is not going to be a boring season, that’s for sure.

mcvay loved those bunch wr sets.

i wonder what it’ll look like with woods, kupp, and cooks bunched together. kupp and cooks in particular have unreal short area quickness.

i imagine defensive backs will be confused as hell as to which receiver to defend as they’re coming out of their breaks…

I love it! Cooks a 4.3 burner that runs great routes and has great hands as well. I don’t think your getting anywhere close the that level a player at 23 in the draft. Sure it’s only a year but they’re already trying to extend him and with 100 million cap space next year if they like him they probably get it done. If Wade thinks Ebukam and Littleton can do it I trust him.

I know nothing about Cooks. He seems a little small to fill in at LT if Whitworth goes down though.

La ram on the cooks trade

“IF you just want a player than can garner attention on deep routes you don’t have to give up a 1st rd pick and $8M per year for it.

Go watch the Jacksonville playoff game where they knocked Cooks out of the game.

Get physical with this smurf and you can take him outta his game.

He’ll hit some deep routes on occasion and that will be it!!

I don’t like this deal at all!!!

Why have TWO passing teams given up on him already?

He’s only 24 and on his third team already, why?

I liked Cooks coming out, but after seeing how you defend him in the NFL he lost value for ME.

With NE as well, because I’m pretty sure I know why they traded him.

    The wiki stuff fwiw:

    New Orleans Saints
    2014 season

In his first career game, Cooks caught seven passes for 77 yards and a touchdown and had one rush for 18 yards in a 37–34 loss to the Atlanta Falcons at the Georgia Dome.[16][17][18] This made Cooks the youngest player (20 years, 347 days) to catch a touchdown pass since Reidel Anthony on Sep 28, 1997, at 20 years 343 days.[19] Cooks had 53 catches for 550 yards and 3 touchdowns before breaking his thumb in Week 11 against the Cincinnati Bengals, ending his season.[20]
    2015 season

Cooks began the 2015 season as the number-one wide receiver for the Saints. Cooks caught for over 100 yards in a game for the first time in his career in the Week 5 game against the Philadelphia Eagles, where he had 5 catches for 107 yards and a touchdown. In Weeks 15 and 16 combined, Cooks had 15 catches for 247 yards and 2 touchdowns against the Detroit Lions and Jacksonville Jaguars. He finished the 2015 season with 84 catches for 1,138 yards and 9 touchdowns, leading the Saints in all of those categories.
    2016 season

    Before the 2016 season,
Cooks was pegged as a breakout candidate by ESPN.[21] He lived up to the pre-season hype when he caught six passes for a career-high 143 yards and two touchdowns in a Week 1 35–34 loss against the Oakland Raiders. He caught a 98-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter to set the Saints’ franchise record for longest play. Cooks, along with Willie Snead IV and Michael Thomas, finished the day with 373 receiving yards combined.[22] Following a Week 12 win versus the Los Angeles Rams, in which he was not targeted for a single pass, Cooks voiced his frustration by saying, “Closed mouths don’t get fed.”[23] Cooks set a new career-high in receiving yards with 1,173, and while his targets dropped from 129 in 2015 to 117 in 2016, his 10.0 yards per target ranked No. 6 among NFL wide receivers.[24]
    New England Patriots

On March 10, 2017, the New England Patriots traded their 2017 first-round and third-round draft picks to the Saints for Cooks and a 2017 fourth-round draft pick.[25][26][27][28] On April 29, 2017, the Patriots picked up the fifth-year option on Cooks’ contract.[29]

On September 10, 2017, Cooks made his Patriots debut against the Kansas City Chiefs in the NFL Kickoff Game. He had three receptions for 88 yards in the 42–27 loss.[30] In Week 3, Cooks had five receptions for 131 yards and scored his first two touchdowns as a member of the Patriots, including a 25-yard game winner with 23 seconds to go in a 36–33 win over the Houston Texans; after the game-winning touchdown he also scored on the ensuing two-point conversion. In Week 11 against the Oakland Raiders at Estadio Azteca, Cooks had six receptions for 149 receiving yards and a touchdown in a 33–8 victory.[31] Through Week 12 of the 2017 season, Cooks led all players in receptions of 40+ yards, with 6.[32]

During Super Bowl LII against the Philadelphia Eagles, Cooks caught one pass for 23 yards, but left the game with a concussion after absorbing a hit from Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins. He was placed on concussion protocol and took no further part in the Super Bowl, as the Patriots lost to the Eagles 41–33.[33]

Cooks had a fantastic game against the Jags in the AFC title game. He had 6 catches for 100 yards and then had an additional 2 pi penalties for about 30 yards each.

All together he was targeted 10 times and 8 of those targets resulted in positive results. Including the pi penalties, Cooks accounted for 160 yards in the title game. And that’s against what is supposed to be a talented secondary.

I’m a fan of the pick-up as long as the Rams have a plan for the salary cap. Without a 1st or 2nd pick this year and no pick in round 2 next year, the Rams could easily struggle to replace some of the good players that are scheduled to hit free agency without a plan for the cap.

When Les Snead called and said: “Hey PA Ram, we’re thinking of trading our 23rd pick for Cooks, what do you think?”

I said: “I dunno, Les. I’m very concerned about offensive line depth, an edge rusher and the linebackers. Also–back-up QB could be an issue. Maybe we should work with what we’ve got for now at receiver. Is this a luxury that Sean simply MUST have?”

Les told me to go fuck myself and hung up.

    So there’s that.

Hey–I hope it works but it just sort of “feels” like a luxury when I think they had real needs elsewhere.

On the other hand–I like this better than going after OBJ.

This is going to be very interesting.

Yeah actually Cooks got knocked out (concussion) in the Superbowl and N.E. doesn’t make it there without him. Cooks is definitely not soft, he’s not a big physical guy like Sammy but he is faster and runs better routes. If you watch him in N.O. he lines up all over the place his tree is extensive, honestly I don’t know what LA is talking about. My guess on why N.E. traded is they lost their LOT, Amendola and traded Jimmy G. A 40 something QB with no LOT, no backup they need to move up in the draft.

I think we over paid and will over spend on Cooks, but I would much rather have him than obj.
