The Tennessee Titans have agreed to terms to trade the No. 1 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft to the Los Angeles Rams.
In a stunning development that shakes up the top of the leaderboard and almost definitely gives the Rams their next quarterback of the future, the Titans ended the day with an impressive stable of picks. The Rams came up farther (No. 15) than any team in NFL history to acquire the No. 1 pick and that came at a steep price.
Tennessee gets: Rams first-round pick (2016), two second-round picks (2016) third-round pick (2016), first-round pick (2017), third-round pick (2017).
Rams get: Titans first overall pick (2016), Titans fourth-round pick (2016), Titans sixth-round pick (2016).
Around The NFL will have much more on the development shortly.

So, as @Bachelors_III wryly points out, the NFL in LA goes to Carson after all. Rams are targeting Carson Wentz."Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. " Philip K. Dick
April 14, 2016 at 9:30 am #41856znModeratorIt’s way too much.
But then…maybe they trade down again. There’s 3 qbs they could take, presumably, and maybe they trade down and take their guy after giving someone else a different guy.
April 14, 2016 at 10:49 am #41857bnwBlockedHaven’t we already been here before? The “next QB of the future” crapola. Doesn’t mean anything if the pick is a dud. If it does work then Snisher wasn’t seeing much value anywhere in this years draft. Or perhaps StanK said winning isn’t a priority until playing in his Inglewood stadium?
I can’t stand the draft. Its the most boring subject matter of what ifs that goes on for months. However owning the first pick overall does allow one to control their destiny for that one pick only so now I’m interested.
The upside to being a Rams fan is heartbreak.
Sprinkles are for winners.
April 14, 2016 at 11:14 am #41858WinnbradParticipantThey gave up a lot, but at least they’re serious about finding a QB.
Keenum is not the answer, unless the question is whether we want to keep missing the playoffs.
The Rams don’t even need a great QB, just a good one. Hell, even above average would work. Somehow, this team has to get out of the bottom of the league in QB and WR stats. The passing game is pathetic. An upgrade at QB is the best solution to that problem.
The Rams are paying a steep price, but without a decent QB this defense, running game, and special teams will continue to win 7-8 games.
I guess we’ll see where this goes. Who knows? Maybe even more maneuvering will occur before the draft.
April 14, 2016 at 11:37 am #41859ZooeyModeratorToo steep a price, imo. I don’t like it.
It’s a huge roll of the dice.

This trade would make sense if there was a projected Peyton Manning level QB in this draft.
But there isn’t so it doesn’t.

Yep. Agreed. It’s a huge price and a big risk. But what’s the alternative? 7-8 wins is all we’re going to get out of the current lineup, imo. Maybe, with some luck and health we win 9.
I think it’s a risk the Rams have to take.
On the other hand, I’m not 100% certain the Rams keep the #1 pick. Snead has been wheeling and dealing more than any GM in the league for the last few years. Anything could happen between now and the draft.
EDIT: Sorry. I screwed up the quote thingy.

You make a good point about shaking up the status quo. No-one should expect significant improvement on offense if the Rams are just going to trot out the same marginal QBs again. But did they have to move up all the way to number 1 to get one of these good (but nowhere near elite) QB prospects? That is too steep a price for any “not-ready-for-primetime-player” not named Bill Murray.
I agree with Ag. This is more about Stan wanting to make opening day in LA the biggest extravaganza he possibly can.
April 14, 2016 at 1:04 pm #41872Isiah58ParticipantThis is a great move. A brilliant move. Cannot believe they got up to Number 1 overall! I am thrilled and think that the Rams have secured their future for a long time.
Of course, they have to pick the right guy. But they will. And the pain of the picks they had to give up will be over by day 2 of next year. That’s it. The Redskins gave up 3 years worth of number 1s to move up four spots. Incredible deal by Snead.
I watched Wentz at the senior bowl and just marveled at him. Knew right then we had no chance to get him. He is a professional QB in the making. I hope the Rams hire the best QB coach/mentor money can buy and treat this guy like the golden ticket he is.
People who are complaining about the trade are taking a short term view of this. Complaining that the QBs are not Andrew Luck. Well, there are no more Andrew Lucks coming. Every draft for the next ten years, they are going to say “he’s no Andrew Luck.” And when the next Andrew Luck does come along, what are the chances that the Rams will get him? So if you are going to sour on any trade that doesn’t yield the “next Andrew Luck,” you are going to have a very long wait.
The Rams have to deal with Russell Wilson for the next 10 years. The needed a guy that can give them a shot. Three years from now, no one will miss those picks but they will be happy if they got their guy at QB.
In 2004, the Giants, Chargers, and Steelers drafted QBs in the first round. Twelve years later, those teams still have those QBs and haven’t had to worry about the position since. What a luxury to have a QB to build around. And a necessity if you want to be taken seriously in the NFL. The Rams will now be taken seriously. The loss of the picks hurt, but it had to be done.
Btw, love getting the Titans pick at the top of the fourth round this year. Its really like just dropping about 20 spots with our third rounder. The third round next year will be offset by the compensatory pick for Jenkins. One of the 2nds was a gift from Philly. It was the price, and I’m glad they paid it. Bravo Rams!

Well, its bold, I’ll grant you that.
I would have done things differently myself,
but strangely, and unaccountably Snead did not
consult with me.The Russell Wilson thing, cuts both ways to me. Yeah,
it points out how important a good QB is to a team,
but then…he was drafted in the Third round. The seahawks
didnt give up a gazzilion premium picks for him.
They just chose wisely in the third round.w

vWould the Rams have preferred to get their QB in the third round? Absolutely. But it is like a lottery ticket, right? How many third round QBs have been picked in the last 15 years? How many have become Russell Wilson? Can it be done? Yes. Is it something that you can plan on? Probably not. Its not a perfect solution, but if they are right the cost is insignificant. If they are wrong, well, maybe those same draft picks would have been wrong too. Let’s hope they choose wisely and the QB becomes the next Big Ben or even Phillip Rivers.

Well, the Rams have been beating Russell Wilson with the Hills, Keenums and Foles of the world. Not sure they need to give up the farm to compete with Seattle.
But they certainly do need a better QB to become elite. Word is they are targeting Wentz. If that’s true, hopefully he can become the QB they need to make the leap.

April 14, 2016 at 4:34 pm #41896ZooeyModeratorI don’t believe this has anything to do with the move to LA, and Kronkey didn’t become a billionaire by making short term business decisions. The Rams are not going to have any difficulty selling tickets for a long time.
I do believe they want a QB because this team needs a QB. I think they think that they have a playoff defense and a playoff rushing game. They do not have a playoff passing game.
I don’t believe that they are undecided on what QB they want. I don’t believe that for a second.
I do not rule out the possibility that this is a stunning poker play, and that the Rams just deliberately created panic in order to turn around and sell this pick for more than they paid for it. For all we know, the report that they really liked Cook is true, and they still like Cook, and think they can get him later. I don’t believe that’s what they are doing, but Les Snead is not a predictable GM.
April 14, 2016 at 5:30 pm #41898OzonerangerParticipantHorrible trade. Here’s why…
1. They gut the better part of two drafts to take one unproven rookie and if it’s Wentz, a rookie that for all intents and purposes played against minor league college competition. He also ran the read option in college and, I’m guessing here, was not trained to read a defense. Most QBs coming out of college these days are similarly challenged.
2. The future…they’ll be paying the price for up to six years. Players taken this year and next would be the nucleus of the team five years down the road. This team will be dependent on expensive free agents or other teams cast offs to fill out the roster in the coming years. And we’ve seen that scenario play out in the recent past. Didn’t work out too well.
3.There is no one on Fisher’s staff that can up-coach this kid and have him ready to play in Game one, or build a game plan where he can succeed right away, in my opinion. And this QB WILL start no matter what. And what of Mannion? They never even gave that kid a chance.
This is a fucking disaster of epic proportions. A desperation move if I ever saw one.

Disagree strongly with that one.
I don’t buy into the arguments that this is some retrograde, backwards coaching staff.
I think the fact they went 7-9 with a young plus injured up OL and a melted down qb is testimony to how much better this staff is than many seem to think.

Trade down? That would require a return that would exceed what the Rams gave up in the first place.
